Is Passions being cancelled?

Well, that's just it. JER isn't going to let the network give him "help." JER isn't going to let the network tell him what to do with his own show. It sounds to me like they've already given him that threat/warning, and he's flat out ignored it. A cancellation doesn't come out of nowhere. The writing was on the wall, and JER knew it. He's chosen to do nothing about it.

Why boycott and tell NBC to force changes on Reilly when it appears that they've already done that? He ignored them, so... upsetting as it may be, they can either stick with the show and its low ratings, or cancel it. Of course, "Today" won't bring any higher ratings for the network than Passions. But they could certainly create some reality show for POCKET CHANGE compared to daytime budgets and if it got even 35% of Passions audience, the show would be a moneymaker.

I sadly agree with King. Kenny, and Hogan.

I don't want it to happen but it is the smart move to make.

Even if Passions did improve, the fans likely wouldn't come back. It doesn't have the history others show have to bank on and even shows with rich history can't get fans back.

Again, I don't want this to happen but NBC has reason. The show has had longer then SB and even PC and hasn't succeeded. JER will never let anyone take his control or takeover his show. I would like that to happen but it won't. It's either stick with it and hope for the best or cancell it. It's sad but it makes sense, even though most of us don't want it to happen.

Yeah, it's been almost a decade for passions.

A DECADE.

And it's done nothing to save itself. We're still stuck with stories that we had nearly TEN YEARS AGO, with no resolution. That's embarassingly bad.

Reilly should be ashamed.

Nothing's more important to JER than his damn ego, so if it means his creation is cancelled so he can write whatever he wants, so be it. That's just the way it is with him, and unfortunately for all of us, he can't be cut out of PSNS the way he was DAYS. That's just reality.

You guys, seriously, SLOW DOWN!! lol.

I came into this thread after a long nap after work. I'm up, I'm eating a very late/early dinner AND I have to watch three hours of soap operas ("All My Children," "Passions" and "Days of Our Lives") -- along with washing and drying clothes for work "today." Give me a break and let me take care of these duties so I can get back to the thread and have at least two additional hours of sleep before work. :)

Man, this thread is JUMPIN'!!!

Well, you people can hate Passions and say cancellation is the smartest move all you want but Passions, despite its many problems, STILL ROCKS and should not go anywhere. I've always maintained that Passions has more potential than ANY OTHER SOAP on daytime due to its uniqueness. It's an "anything goes" kinda soap with any kind of storytelling (typical soap fare, supernatural stories, spoofs and rip-offs of TV shows/movies and anything and everything in between). Passions can be anything it wants to be and it would be a travesty to see this show end when it really doesn't have to.

Excellent post, Vanguardian.

That's what I'm saying about "Passions." It doesn't NEED the 'rich history' that some shows have. The ratings WILL go up, as we've seen them go up before, because of its gimmicks. Those, coupled with fast-paced storytelling and the supernatural elements and the show's other quirks -- as long as stories move MUCH faster -- make for great television -- and for "Passions," as has been PRECEDENTED already by the show, ratings success.
