GL:

- Penelope Koechl last listed as Script Writer on July 24

This is the only writer change at GL that's really kinda bad. Koechl is a pretty good writer and has been with GL off and on for years. Why does she get the boot while those two Rauch rejects Lloyd Gold and Christopher Dunn get to stay on?

Y&R:

- Valerie Ahern & Christian McLaughlin first listed as Associate Head Writers on July 27

What the hell? They're predominantly sitcom writers, but that's what Y&R is these days, unintentionally.

Oh dear Jesus... Y&R is getting way out of hand. When will this end? How come people let all these bad stuff happen to a show? And more importantly, why are the CBS/Sony execs so blind when it comes to handling Y&R? I'd like to see the Bell-type show back, but I can't turn back time. I'm still hoping for a miracle.

Christian McLaughlin is a very good writer. He wrote 2 fascinating novels and wrote for B&B for awhile. I would have highly recommended hiring him.

When shows hire the same writers over & over there are complaints.

When shows hire different writers or writers from other circles there are still complaints.

It still doesn't change the fact these writers mostly wrote for sitcoms and know nothing about the history of Y&R. That's a receipt for disaster, but I expect nothing less from a Latham apologizer. To you the woman can do nothing wrong, but she must be doing something wrong if the show's ratings are deeply stagnant and all the soap publications aren't fond of her work.

I hardly said she's done nothing wrong. I'm outraged she killed Sheila off and didn't use Kimberlin. But I'm still happy with almost everything else. I'm particularly impressed with Amber, Cane, Karen, Jana and that new British guy chasing Amber's group.

So this spawn of Latham is a full time member of the writing staff now? Jeesh, Thanks Toups for that scoop. Another rookie script writer for AMC....

It worked out well with Joanna Cohen... a little too well.... but before here was Hot Mess herself Ms. Bugler.

I think the compaint is hiring the same bad writers over and over.

I think people are complaining about Y&R because most of the veteran writers are being fired (or them leaving because LML is a nightmare) for these newbies who have no connection to Y&R. Also, Y&R was NEVER a show to hire so many new people. They always promoted from within whether it be writers, producers, or directors.

It's fine when you hire a couple new people but it's not fine when most of your staff are newbies to the show.
