No Goodbye Party/Cake for 30 yr. Vet Julia Barr

Not that I'm defending her -- the gawd awful hack -- but the blame is Frons and that miserable Julie Carruthers. Even if Megan didn't want to write a big exit story for one of the show's legacy characters, Carruthers and Frons a.k.a. THE BOSSES should've had enough respect for the actress, and let her know that not only was November 14th her last day, but also provide her with the same courtesy Lil Miss Julie gave Connie and Terri... that latter of which deserved it, nevertheless.

I mean, seriously. What speeches could people give about Connie after only being on the show for a year?

I'm not surprised, though. Michael Jordan & Reggie were erased from the show. Jill Larson & Opal evaporated. Kate Collins was probably never called back to work.

This really is sad and pathetic. Julia deserves WAY more respect than this.....BUT the details behind it all are sketchy. I really think they were just expecting her to go to recurring and didn't plan in the story or otherwise that she'd say no to recurring and just up and leave.

Anyway yeah, this sucks. I'm holding out that they'll be smart and bring her back and it'll feel like she was never gone. *crosses fingers*

The vile levels ABC Daytime (and AMC in particular) will stoop to never cease to amaze me....

I know actors sometimes refuse a cake on the set for their own reasons. But this is something very different. Not having a cake on the set is a HUGELY punative course of action. I wish I could really describe what a massive deal this is. (And it's not just actors who get goodbye cakes on the set -- it's directors/producers/staff, etc.).

If this isn't clear proof that Agnes has absolutely no say in any decision on the show, on any level, this is it.

Terri and Connie seemed somewhat ecstatic to be let out of AMC so they both had something nice to say about their former Executive Producer Julia H Carruthers in their exit interviews or goodbye letters. I don't blame them for being happy to be out of there. AMC is in the toilet and JHC could have kept them in BB hell for who knows how long.

Julia left with a different perspective and did not have any kind parting remarks for AMC's current PTB. It's no coincidence she was given the bum's rush out the back door.

Why should ABC Daytime waste money on a goodbye party and/or cake!? They should use their money more wisely.

Julia Barr should be lucky that she's no longer a part of the s*it over at AMC. She's a phenomenal actress that will have no problems finding future employment.

You just know that if Ruth Warrick was still alive, she'd be GUNNING for these bastards for the way they have disrespected Julia Barr.

Julia is one of soap's greatest performers, of all time, and its an absolute travesty what has happened, mirroring the quality of the show actually.

I guess AMC don't want her to be gone permanently and are waiting out a period of time to get her back, hence no goobye party. Well that doesnt wash with her fans, this is disgusting.

Maybe because Julia deserves a few hours of being complemented by her peers, and given the full respect an actress of her calibre is entitled to. She is one of the few in daytime who actually brings reality to her role, making Brooke a real, conflicted human being and not a 'hair flipping after i slap her across the face' parody.

    • Thanks. I'd forgotten about that. It is odd she wasn't asked back. Maybe they just gave up.  Harley/Philip is one of those relationships which lingered on longer than it should have. I never got the sense the show had any great interest in them together beyond the first six months or so, and there was little to no chemistry between them after that point.

    • I am just so happy with the new writing. Everything feels so much more mature. The connections between plots and characters reminds me of the eighties, and I just plain old LIKE everybody. I very much enjoyed Philip's apology tour with his two exes, and both of them being gracious to him. This version of Philip is so interesting, very flawed, but trying to do better, and I do believe he wanted the brother bond with Xander very much and is hoping to get that back. Speaking of brothers, we got Xander's first ever mention of his other brother, Bo. And how interesting that Titan is also working on a cure for sepsis. If the one with Dr Russell falls through we have a back up plan. And the seamless writing continued with Sarah trying to get out of a conference and Kayla needing to get Dr Russell out of town, I love when things just make sense like that. Shout out to Xander with cucumbers on his eyes lol And under the new regime I am not hating Stalex. I think this couple was just hammered by Ron by constantly making them sleep with other people. It was hard to root for them when the writer didn't care about them as a pairing, just about getting Rob naked. I am happy to see what happens here too. Stefan got a get well card to EJ? I wonder if it had a coded HELP ME in the message. Glad Kayla turned him down. She should never forget how he used Steve as a pawn back in the day. Characters are actually remembering this stuff these days.
    • That happens sometimes on cbs/paramount. Just refresh the page and it should work.
    • In a 1997 SOD article, Ehlers mentions that she was asked to return several times, but was surprised she wasn't asked to return for her "mother's" funeral.  This was when she returned for the 60th Anniversary event. They were a really popular pairing for a few years ago.  As an older viewer, it seemed strange seeing Beth as the odd one out, but 1998 Beth was a totally different character.  She was written as a manipulative, vixen.

    • It seems obvious based on the initial material that Korte was going to take another foolish run at Jason and Carly a la 2021 and hoped Mulcahey being back would make it work, as he wrote such famous material for Steve, Sarah, etc. I think a couple good dialogue scenes came out of them together very early on, but there was never any denying that Steve and Laura have never had and will never have any romantic chemistry, plus the audience doesn't want it. So they pivoted to her with that useless dayplayer (Brennan) and now here they all are, spinning their wheels doing nothing of value on the show. I do think PM had planned to do much more with Jason's sons and that rivalry/friction, but once he was gone so was Jake. I've rarely seen any of the core mob 3 feel so totally extraneous and directionless on the canvas. Not that I mind. Anything that makes Jason easier to get rid of works for me.
    • I just edited the 1998 SOD Awards & Laura Wright won Best New Character for Cassie on GL. Also Philip & Harley won something of some name for them as a couple & when they finished saying their effusive thanks at the mic, Grant picked Beth up & literally threw her over his shoulder & walked backstage that way. I mean, it's great that Beth Ehlers is a good sport, right?

    • nothing. The story was put on the backburner while they focused on other stuff. I think thats one of the issues i have with the show in that it sometimes struggles with balance as stories will disappear for weeks and then reappear (Chelsea's throuple for example)
