November 14, 200619 yr Member Ugh! I'm mad my tape didn't record the Brooke/Erica exchange since it will probably be the last one we ever see. Don't want to give too much away but the Thanksgiving spoiler pictures show otherwise.
November 14, 200619 yr Member Dayum I'm so very proud of Kendall, telling off Tad, and taking on Adam of all people
November 14, 200619 yr Member Ugh!This show's a mess if Alexa Havins is its star. She's been its star for a while now, along with Cam and AMC's been a mess for a while now. But I think Babe's the problem, not Alexa. In Cam's case, it's his acting and the character. Alicia's Kendall hasn't quite had the luck Babe has for a while now, imo. Though I guess that's changing with Thorsten's popularity soaring, perhaps things are getting better for Lady K. Though it's still all about Babe in JH McFronsieLand, everything gets back to her sooner or later. I find her very marginal. No real charisma at all, and it bleeds heavily into her portrayl of this horrendous character. Okay. She can cry on cue. But after the scenes of her portraying Babe's pain in realizing Bess was Miranda at the crash site, and her son was presumed dead, she's stalled. I admit that she stepped up her game with those scenes, but it hasn't gone to any other level. She plays her lovey dovey scenes with Josh the same way she did with Jamie and the same way she did with JR. There's been nothing in Alexa's Babe that makes me say, "Yes... THIS is the man she needs to be with. Josh brings out something I HAVEN'T SEEN in Babe when she was with JR or Jamie." Alicia, on the other hand, has come LIGHTYEARS in her craft over the last (almost) five years. She was atrocious during her first few months. Having ZERO chemistry with Cameron and painfully letting Becky Budig devour her in their first few scenes together. But then she grew, learned the Kendall character, and has been on fire ever since. She plays Kendall in layers. Look at Alicia's portrayl... she will be b!tchy and harsh then go to vulnerable and insecure all in the same scene. She will tear into someone, and then that someone will say something to Kendall that strikes a nerve, and Kendall's eyes will soften and her posture becomes a little less emboldened. You know that whatever was said affected Kendall somehow. I believe she's put in the work to be the Next Generation Erica Kane of this show. And I love her work with Thorsten Kaye's Zach, which is why I'm an avid Zendall fan. Oh, and before I finish rambling... I am beyond tired of hearing Alexa's nasal voice.

I think that Alexa is one of the best younger actresses this show has seen in years. I would say she is the best younger actress to come along to AMC since Rebecca and Eden's introductions to the show. I do think she is one of the best actresses AMC has right now in the younger set and her along with Eden are power house performers IMO. I thought she was on fire during 05' during the custody herring. Then Little Adam's almost death/drowning in the chandler pool and any scene were she is opposite Vincent in. I also thought she did a brilliant job opposite Kate Collin's back in Febuary/March. She does angst and tragedy amazingly well. IMO and I felt that several times she has brought amazing material to the show. I thought she was charming, fiesty and interesting when she was first introduced. I think she could have played a great schemer. I also think that when she is given material she runs with it and has delievered emmy quality performences. When she talks about Little Adam, when she is fhgting for him. I believe her. I thought her scenes just last week were also very strong work. As to Alicia. I've felt the opposite way. Ever since 06' I've felt turned off by the Kendell character. I felt she was amazing in 05' I think the Thanksgiving scenes between her and Greenlee were amazing as was her talking about her adoptive mother Alice to Ryan. That was special but since then I don't think she really been doing much. I think she had better material last year with the surrogacey storyline and when she was playing off of Rebecca. I think that Alicia's best performence was when she was running after Ryan after he caught Aiden and her together. I find that to be the strongest scene of her career. I think Alexa and Eden are the strongest younger actresses AMC has. I would give the edge to Eden but I do think that Alexa is right behind her and then I would have to give props to Leven and Kelli.
November 14, 200619 yr Member Alexa is a good actress, but she's not spectacular or anything like that IMO. She had some of her best work during the baby switch storyline, but since then, I haven't been impressed. It's probably cause all Babe does is whine & cry.

I completely agree about Alexa's Babe. I'm just not impressed. Beyond the waterworks and the constipated look I see no depth at all to the character or Alexa's portrayal of her. I think both the character and the actress are one note.
November 14, 200619 yr Member I completely agree about Alexa's Babe. I'm just not impressed. Beyond the waterworks and the constipated look I see no depth at all to the character or Alexa's portrayal of her. I think both the character and the actress are one note. I agree. I think she can cry very well which is why she pulls that out every second scene. She has no depth, watch her scenes with AM, she has no idea why Kendall would hate the woman who kept Miranda away from the Kanes for so long or how her lying to the court about JR trying to kill Kendall and her baby may be why Kendall hates her or how she got handed Fusion and won't leave even though Zach offered to pay her to leave because she knows she couldn't build a company from scratch she needs something all done for her. She pulls the I have no idea why Kendall is so mean to me or plays the get over it Kendall card because we all know how well Babe got over what JR did to her and Babe wasn't even physically hurt. Have some depth, have some understanding of your character, it's not that hard, it's what actors are meant to do. I do think if she understood her character her acting could be good I just don't hink she gets who Babe is and why she is hated. She has the acting tools she just doesn't know how to use them. AM is a far better actress from when she started and when she ran after Ryan on the motorcycle, that was such over the top showy acting that it made me cringe. I like the subtleness of her acting now and I think working with TK has helped her in that area.
November 14, 200619 yr Member I think that some of that is actually the writing. As in Babe wanting Kendell to be civil to her while working. I don't think that is any fault of the actress. They can't change what is written or what there character does. I'm impressed with her and I see why she does things and I think Alexa is a great actress. She does emotional beats well and I think some of the dislike for the character is coloring into the actress. Which is to be expected.
November 14, 200619 yr Member I think some of the dislike for the character is coloring into the actress. Which is to be expected. I am perfectly capable of seperating an actress from a character but thank you very much for the insuniation that I'm incapable of doing that. I love Kendall and I just said her acting has made me cringe before. Maybe you are the one who can get the love for a character color your love for an actress. Why can't we just agree to disagree and why can't you deal with the fact that everyone may not think Alexa is the greatest thing to hit AMC regardless of whether we hate Babe or love her?
November 14, 200619 yr Member she has no idea why Kendall would hate the woman who kept Miranda away from the Kanes for so long or how her lying to the court about JR trying to kill Kendall and her baby may be why Kendall hates her or how she got handed Fusion and won't leave even though Zach offered to pay her to leave because she knows she couldn't build a company from scratch she needs something all done for her. I didn't say that you weren't able. I'm just saying that the dislike for an actress or character may bleed into one of the other. Everyone is subjected to his or her own bias. Didn't mean it as an offense to you or anyone else. I'm sorry if you took it as such. I like Alexa however comments such as she doesn't seem to understand why Kendell hates her (which are comments toward Alexa) are really comments about Babe and then saying Alexa doesn't understand her character because Babe doesn't understand why she is hated is a lack of distinction between the two. Saying Alexa doesn't understand her character because of what Babe says or does is why I made that point. Alexa has said many times why people dislike her character and she understands that her character has done horriable things. Just because the writing for the character of Babe didn't change doesn't mean that she doesn't understand or know her character. It is because the writing hasn't changed for the character and thus she acts the same way. Blamming an actress/actor for the way a character is written and saying that the actor doesn't understand because the character doesn't change isn't the problem. It's the writing for the character. You seem to be blamming Alexa's acting/understanding of the character for the way Babe is written and the way she doesn't change. That is why I said what I did. That maybe some are attribuiting Babe's actions and lack of change to Alexa's performence. When it is the difference between the writing for the character for the way Babe is.

I think Alicia has really grown since working with Thorsten and I'm enjoying her subtle acting style these days.
November 14, 200619 yr Member Well I should clarify what I meant. Alexa plays Babe smug with Kendall or dumbfounded, yes she cannot change the script but she can change her acting choices to fit better with her character's history and I never see that from her. I see it sometimes in scenes with JR but never with other characters and that is what I mean by a lack of depth. It's called subtext and she would be better served by trying to use that in her acting.

Alicia has definately improved; in particular, her crying scenes which were awful at best.
