AMC: Walt Willey speaks out (Yet again)

He'll be the next to go I am sure. It is something to see him speaking out, he usually is silent. Things are obviously really bad when someone like him is speaking out! Go Walt!

I'm at Super Soap Weekend as we speak (well ... I WAS ... at the hotel room now). It was fantastic. Full report soon, I promise. But the AMC motorcade was fantastic. Susan Lucci spoke (Rosie O'Donnell hosted the interview) and talked a bit about Julia Barr (huge boo when Susan talked about her firing). Susan wants to see more of Jill Larson, James Mitchell.

Erika Slezak also spoke and mentioned she's tired of playing the worried mother.

Other notables ... Vanessa Marcil was brought up during the Spencer motorcade interview (with Greg Vaughan, Becky Herbst, Scott Clifton, and Julie Marie Berman) and Becky Herbst joked that if Marcil ever came back (question was who they would like to see back) that the rest of them wouldn't get any screen-time.

Besides Lucci, Thorsten and Monaco were the most popular it seemed. Huge line for Monaco (the most popular there) and Thorsten.

I got autographs of just about everyone (they actually HANDED THEM OUT near the autographing stations). Sure beat waiting in line. Got photos of EVERYONE at the motorcade and a lot at their autograph sessions. I was pissed because I forgot my digital camera. You have NO IDEA how pissed I was! I got some throwaway cameras so the pictures won't be great.

There was a surprise guest at the weekend ... TRISTAN ROGERS. He got HUGE screams and applause. No autograph from him. He had a surprise session WAY out of the way (near the car stunt show) but we didn't hang around ... should of.

Again .. full report soon. I hope I remember everything but it was a total blast!

Part of an interview with Susan Lucci at TV Guide

Paging Walt Willey

Rumors abound that AMC plans to let go Walt Willey, the Pine Valley veteran who plays Erica's husband, Jackson Montgomery. Willey usually plays emcee at SSW events, but is strangely absent this year. That's not a good sign. "He said he had not been invited," Lucci sadly reported. "I'm sure the fans are disappointed. I don't know who makes these decisions. I have no idea."

I had forgotten Walt usually hosts things ... he was replaced by Bob Guiney and Rosie O'Donnell (who was standing in the street at one point -- totally random --- came so close to getting an autograph but couldn't -- did get some pictures) and Cameron Mathison. Oh well. I didn't even realize Walt is usually there and wasn't this year. I don't even think Lucci mentioned him in her motorcade interview (although I missed the last half).

Thanks for sharing about SSW (I'm really glad I didn't go, Bob Guiney is a poor replacement for Walt Willey IMO) but I think it's a little odd that you posted here on the Walt Willey Thread and didn't even notice that he wasn't there.

Oh well. not everyone has the same faves.

I thought it was 11th Hour, which was why Megan was gearing up for a Retched Rendall Redux.

I thought TK's contract was up next year. But they might have approached him early to re-sign like they do with all the biggies and he said "no, maybe if things change"

Walt is so gone. At least 2 people have reported seeing him lunching up with Barbara Bloom.

I believe TK's contract is up in April. The last I heard or read about it was that he had not made up his mind yet. He was looking into other opportunities while he is still a "hot" commodity. My feeling is that if McT is still with the show in Jan./Feb., he will opt not to stay. I think he will have to make a decision at that time because of storylines and how far in advance they plan them. Who can blame him though? AMC is a sinking ship and if he can get on another soap, especially a CBS one, he will have better job security and better writing to work with.

TK's contact is up in April. He hasn't made a decision but whatever decision he does finally make, it will be what is best for him and his family. Would like him to stay but will deal if he does decide to leave

Re Walt...don't look good :(

Krypton, any word on McTavish being fired at SSW? Did the audience make any comments, suggestions that we want better writing on the show???

  • Member

Sorry if I offended any Walt fans by saying I didn't realize he wasn't there this year ... remember, I had never gone to SSW and he's barely used on AMC as it is. Sorry.

Anyway ... McTrash wasn't mentioned that I recall, although we stuck around at 12:15 for the AMC motorcade interview (we saw the motorcade yesterday but skipped the interview round), Thorsten kidded Aiden about his "one liners", meaning Aiden is never used, obviously. Thorsten was very nice and he and Cady were definitely leading that discussion. Each cast has such great camaraderie with each other. Oh, and Brian Frons was mentioned. An audience member asked if Michael Knight is a good kisser. Thorsten kidded around that Michael kissed Frons and everyone booed at the mention of his name  I kid you not. It was hilarious.

I'll detail my second day in my SSW thread (we hung around where the stars came in and out for sessions and saw nearly EVERYONE up close ... without a camera, naturally).

Lol, too bad he wasn't there to hear the booing. I'm sure he was off at a GH-related activity

Wow, susan was actually considering doing dancing with the stars. I'm shocked Frons/abc didn't move heaven and earth to make that happen, any soap publicity right now would be good publicity for all the ailing soaps.
