GH: Classic Thread
Yes, PM was in a mental institution from the time he was ?teen (15? 16? Unknown) until he was either 18 or 21, whichever was the legal age in that state. (I think CT.) At that time he took action to get himself released. I believe that he confided his newfound belief that he was gay to a counselor at his school. But, there's no way he could have been locked up in a mental ward without his parents also being a part of it. He has spoken openly about this. And, god bless him, when he talks about it, it is not with bitterness or rancor, rather he tells fascinating stories about the people he lived with. One, a black teen drag queen whose stories are wonderful, hilarious, even life-affirming.

2024: The Directors and Writers Thread
Well, when Patrick left, there was an early report that named CVE as co-HW again but almost immediately ERROL posted that it was an error but to stay tuned because there might be more changes coming. So, yes, there is & has been & continues to be some confusion!!! WHOA. I'm with you. IDK either!

2024 Daytime Emmys Live Discussion Thread
Things that I have been told about Frank by people who work for him. By Me. 1. He is as healthy as a horse. 2. He is naturally quite pale. 3. He suffers from stage fright. 4. He works himself so hard that by end of week, Friday show done, he is completely exhausted. 5. Last year, Emmys, he had Covid, but didn't know it till Monday morning. There is no 6. And I am not a Frank apologist. I post loudly & often about the buck stopping at his door & list the things I think he should be doing that he is not doing. I am as critical of him as almost anyone else. Here's the thing. I could care less how odd Frank might seem at the mic. Brilliant people are often quite odd. I am not saying he is brilliant. What I want is for him to produce a better show. Then he can be as odd as he pleases. Just give us more edge, heart, pay-off, stakes, ..

LOL, you are right about that. If ever there was a toxic relationship between parents & daughter, theirs is probably the most toxic but also amazingly interesting. Patrick Mulcahey's life would make an amazing story, too, since when as a teen he first told someone he was gay, they had him institutionalized for years until he was old enough to legally get himself free.

2024 Daytime Emmys Live Discussion Thread
Well, that is a thing for DAYS! They have always had SOME actors who were doing superlative work. So, in a sense, this is ongoing. But, you are certainly correct that a disservice is done them because the style, the quality in general, the writing, the problems with the writing, etc. all conspire to cheat excelling actors out of any acclaim.

GH: June 2024 Discussion Thread
This is when I began to watch GH!!! So, in a way I was incredibly spoiled from jump!!! My long deep history is with P&G, NY soaps & NBC. My #1 is AW, my #2 is GL & my #3 is Santa Barbara. I got into AMC with Ted/Tad & I'm still sad that Barbara Rush died this past year. (Nola Orsini) Then I stayed with it till the end. When AW was canceled in 1999 I couldn't get enough soap to fill what was missing. Anyway, my GH virginity was lost to Wendy Riche. Hmm, supposedly Tristan just didn't feel like driving over just for photos.

You're not thinking of Brent/Marion, are you? And Beth Ehlers absolutely does not count in that grouping. The only reason she went to AMC was because she was promised a romantic re-pairing there with Ricky Paull Goldin & she deserted a sinking ship, not a casting after a show was canceled. GL had not been canceled yet when RPG went to AMC & Ehlers followed him.

I believe there to be considerable fan interest in having Emma back & that would give Robin a drop-in (and drop back out) rationale. Although Robin would probably be easy to write as a drop-in from several perspectives. I wish we could think of a fan campaign to run to get Frank to move on some aspects I am quite sure he spends no time at all thinking about. Jamey was gone, wrote for SISTAS & is already back. So "still" isn't the operable word!!

GH: June 2024 Discussion Thread
GH has one Social Media person & 2 interns. That's it. I honestly do not think much happens in terms of decision making based on fans online. It is true that Facebook has a great many soap fans but there's tons of differences in the groups. It's certainly not one group mind! You might recall one day when I was personally shocked at how many people there are in 3 or 4 FB groups all devoted to Willow's family. But, that's me & my bias!!! I don't know why the cast is so protective of Frank, but it's clear that they are. That also is a clue to us: the actors like Frank! Come to think of it, the dept. heads like Frank, too. The only way I can think that Frank might change would be if someone, unknown who, would have a heart to heart with him saying, these are the ways that you are not playing the game. Because that's what he values. I am with you on this! 💯

2024 Daytime Emmys Live Discussion Thread
Well, I think somewhat differently. To me the shows were not relevant when no network would produce them & it was a thrown together affair. Now that they're back on CBS they are again a night when the shows can celebrate & get dressed up & see people they do not see the rest of the year. If you're looking for some kind of rubber stamp on daily quality, the Emmys to me have never been that. There is no way that 2 episodes can represent the daily quality of a show that is on the air 5 days a week every week all year except for 2 weeks. They are an awards show, just like other awards shows. YMMV. A very weird thing just happened. I posted Michelle Stafford's winning & her acceptance speech in my FB soap opera forum. Paramount Plus challenged for copyright. So, deleted. Obviously they do own the footage. It's just not usual not to be able to show selected clips.

BTW the last time people thought Frank was fried at the mic was last year's Emmys. And that time Frank had Covid but didn't know it till he tested for it Monday morning, after. And, here is the link for the re-watch. No, that was actually an old link. Not sure of the new now. Sorry.

ABC Daytime
It was an experiment. Network expansion was started by Pete Lemay & Lin Bolen at NBC. ABC decided to try this with two 45 minute shows, as a block, as you guessed. I think they were trying to keep fans from changing channels to another network. BTW, the experiment didn't work.

I suspect there may have been some bad blood in regards to Dan, when there was no bad blood at all with Chris. Okay, I'm going to retract this statement. I looked at Frank when Dan O'Connor, who was sitting right beside him, won & that was not a hug you give to anyone you have bad blood with! Later on, what he said was something to the effect of the Missing In Action Chris Van Etten, so he must have gotten himself misplaced & wasn't with the rest of them, and that is why his name was called out at the mic but Dan's wasn't & we know Dan had been present at least earlier. This is my new story & I'm sticking with it.
