Yellowstone Season 5 A & B Finale
It is the series finale for "Yellowstone", but Beth and Rip are getting their own spin-off which will function as a continuation. As for the series finale... it was okay. I think part of the issue is that Taylor Sheridan has kind of started believing in his own hype and stopped exploring any nuances that were in the family versus Jamie to justify that ending. John wasn't a very good man and I wish that would've been hammered home more.

That house looks very familiar - at first I thought it might've been the Falcon Crest mansion, but there's not the brick details. Now I'm curious where they filmed.

I agree with you there - there's a reason why Peacock keeps renewing DAYS and why Disney is trying to figure out what to do with the All My Children brand. Having a fairly cheap production that pulls in viewers to your app on a daily basis is good for business. I don't see General Hospital being canned any time soon.

I've mentioned it before, but I loathe when they use shots of people "talking" in opening credits. It just comes across as lazy - how hard is it to dig up an alternative take of someone's reaction shot? I don't think any episodes of King's Crossing or the previous incarnation Secrets of Midland Heights have ever turned up online. ETA: The opening credits to Secrets of Midland Heights is here, starting at 6:01:

Knots Landing
To be fair, I find that to be an issue with the Lorimar soaps in general - they might've had a good initial cast that at least grew into their roles, but a lot of side characters were just either blandly cast - or worse (yes, I'm looking at you Sasha Mitchell). It dampened a lot of ability for these shows to move past the initial cast and they had to rely on the originals to carry these shows. Spelling shows, on the other hand, usually did pick up actors with potential but of course steered into overstylized messes where the script came in second.

ALL: Extremely long-held secrets that still haven’t been revealed to other characters?
I just assumed it was just a random goon of Clyde's.

Knots Landing
IIRC, Season 9 also started quite slow in the Nielsen ratings and seemingly started to pick up with Noises Everywhere. So I think season 10 also had a bit of a forward momentum and then ended up being more stable with its average.

Knots Landing
Greg probably should've been written out a few seasons before the show ended to be honest. It felt like they were struggling to write for him post-Laura. The whole thing with Paige was just... icky. They probably could've had him leave and have him let a younger boss (30-ish) take over the Sumner group. Have him or her be married and move into the cul de sac. Gary and Val probably should've been given their walking papers once they got their happy ending considering how they really struggled to write for them. Again, pairing Gary with the much younger Stacy Galina was another choice. Karen and Mack could stay as the stable constant couple.

Knots Landing
Honestly, I think it should've been a change that would've been gradual if it ever were to happen. Unfortunately, once they decided that Paige and Greg were a "thing" they pretty much limited her character that could've worked as an anchor character for a younger generation. Why on earth didn't Paige have friends? Olivia was written out when they realised that she was limited in what she could do with the older cast, instead of trying to write in younger ones around her. Linda was working, but then mindlessly killed off. Pat Petersen, bless his heart, clearly had checked out on acting by the end of his run. If you realistically look at shows like Grey's then you realise how early they actually started writing out OG cast members and how many new people they ended up introducing. They had a win some, lose some mentality. Knots got too attached to their leading ladies to stay relevant beyond 1993. Realistically they needed to be cycled out eventually or put in a more recurring role with younger people moving into the block if it was going to run indefinitively.

A New Day in Eden
Funny that A New Day in Eden had episode "titles". I wonder what "Biff Spies On Pam and Clint" and "Tragic News For Betty" could've been about?

I suspect the show was still kind of performing erratically in the weekly ratings, which is why they tried to have more standalone episodes to try and capture people who were randomly tuning in. Of course, it ended up almost getting them cancelled, so they luckily threw caution to the wind in season four since they had nothing to lose.

It's a great one, but also one that shows how they lost interest in Laura as a main character.

I pretty much feel the same way - I like Ma Walsh, but the Cummings' coming to Los Angeles just felt pretty forced and took away from Meg's "fish out of the water" status. With them there, there were never any question of her packing her bags and going back to Kansas. Sara was sort of meh, especially with the "ripped from the headlines" Lewinsky storyline. I did like Shawn Batten, but preferred her on Spyder Games though lol. A.J. and especially Leo just were bland to me... I barely remember them existing on the show. Again, why bring in A.J. without Elaine there?

Could be, though I don't remember exactly when it happened. With that said, Kelly Hu was written out much earlier than that (maybe in April?), so I feel they started adjusting the show pretty early on. I do think Guza might've left out of frustration with NBC's demands. Of course, they did the Terror Island arc at the end of the year with James E Reilly coming in as a story consultant.

I suspect that must've been a part of the direction of making it more in line with the other soaps. It's obvious that initially they had more of a 90s Spelling soap feel with "unconventional" family units and "chosen" families. I never got why they expanded on the Deschanel's while leaving Elaine in the dust. But I guess they needed Elaine to leave to get the Cummings there to run the waffle place. I checked and Meg Bennet already came in after one month (episode 25 per IMDB). So I suspect not as it probably had barely premiered when they filmed that.

Honestly, I don't really get why they choose to write off the characters they did in the mini-revamp that happened maybe eight months in. Tiffany I understand since the actress that replaced Franz didn't have the same charisma, but Paula and Elaine I don't get. I thought the set up of Gabi being Paula's half-sister on her paternal side and Cole being Elaine's son was an interesting family dynamic that went effectively wasted. I guess they wanted to expand on the Torres's and maybe uncomplicate it a bit for new viewers.

I'd assume he was initially cast because he's George Hamilton's son and it's not a secret he's struggled with sobriety along with eating disorders. I'm sure that played into him being recast so quickly. I do wonder how far they shot ahead though at that point.

I'd assume it was done when they started doing early promotions for the show. It wouldn't be the first time for Spelling to do this - Melrose Place actually started promotion before they shot a second of the pilot and they filmed those character shots that were used in early promos and the ending credits in season one. That's why Billy doesn't have a shot in the ending credits since Stephen Fanning was originally cast and they didn't bother shooting one with Andrew Shue; you can see Fanning's discarded promo shot at around 0:25 here (along with apartments #9 and #11, which never existed on the show): TL;DR: they were likely shot at least a month or two they went into production since I doubt they did a pilot. Hence Garita being present despite not being on the show for the first month or so.

I really loved the first few months for this reason. He really did make an effort to make it look as close to his prime time soaps at the time, which is why I suspect it went over better in Europe than the US. Of course, they eventually caved in to the US soap fans demand and tried to make it look more in line with the other soaps. It's a shame really since it didn't make the show a success and I thought it looked worse. The fact that the utilised location shooting so much was amazing, yet daytime soaps hated it lol.

DAYS: RIP Wayne Northrop
That's a good point. Considering other families like the Martin's either got usurped into the Horton clan, disappeared (The Anderson's) or were just flat out villains (DiMera's), I think the fact that the Brady family has been able to survive as a clear main family for over 40 years is a feat.
