  1. Because Biden is obviously not doing well healthwise. By the time they finally got around to adressing that, the primaries had already been done and they were more or less stuck with Harris, despite her not being a strong candidate (again, has it passed people by she was at the bottom when she did her presidential candidate bid?). There's a reason why the Democrats were sniffing around Michelle Obama for a bit when Biden first stepped down. They screwed themselves unfortunately in thinking they could just "Reagan" it. But the internet and social media has changed everything since then - you can't hide when someone's sundowning.
  2. Update: https://deadline.com/2024/11/warner-bros-response-lawsuit-the-pitt-er-michael-crichton-estate-1236167651/
  3. I know that for his movies he pays well, especially for the leads, but I'd assume that his on-going tv series works on a different budget (hence the ridiculous shooting schedule). Then again, he uses a lot of non-union talent and perhaps the quick shooting schedule makes up for comparatively small per episode pay especially if they're not based somewhere crazy expensive like Los Angeles. There are a bit of stories out there about actors not liking his rapid shooting schedule (no surprise) and at least in his TBS days there seemed to be a conflict with actors wanting to triple their pay (to a $1000 per episode!) and get food service on set. But maybe he's changed since then...
  4. I mean, isn't it held every year? Or were there new organizers?
  5. I'd expect a bunch to turn up since it tapes in Atlanta and they want at least the lesser known names to be based there. I'm sure Beyond the Gates will also pay better than Tyler Perry's shows, even at recurring capacity.
  6. Christ, I forgot that. I guess her last exit was so underwhelming that it just merged in my mind with the one before that.
  7. I mean, Sami was last seen getting kidnapped in 2022 IIRC, so it makes sense he would try to bring her back. Have they adressed Sami since that?
  8. The only explanation I can think of is that they're trying to emphasise on the fact that Marlena and Belle are mother and daughter. But yes, them getting a Belle that was barely different from Alison Sweeney in age was always an issue and the dress just ages her up. Maybe Martha pissed someone in the wardrobe department off. It's interesting that they're airing stuff that's clearly not coming for another six months - as someone else said, maybe they did go back and re-edit? Then again, it's probably that they just want to tease the new regime - another issue with being eight to ten months ahead...
  9. The idea, the concept and the characters were alright. The issue is that Tyler Perry wrote every episode and he's - at best - a mediocre writer. If he had left it with coming up with the basics and then allowed other writing talent to take over, maybe it could've been a decent show.
  10. Exactly. Affiliates control the slot now from my understanding, so the best NBC could do is offer it up as an alternative. Risk is its broadcast ratings would be even more awful because the national coverage wouldn't be great.
  11. Peacock only has around 1.2% of the market share and is really only beating P+ and Pluto TV. Mind you D+ only has ~2% and Hulu ~3%. So it's tight between non-Netflix streamers. This is the closest chart from June I could find from a quick Google: Regardless, something's gotta give eventually and these streamers will eventually fold into each other at least those with a pay tier that's losing money. I guess stuff like Tubi and Pluto might not since they're FAST, but at the same time Pluto is from Viacom and could just fold into being a free tier of P+...
  12. This means DAYS will at least have survived four years on streaming and considering almost everyone thought this was just a way to dump the show before cancellation that's pretty good. I'd assume the biggest danger to it being cancelled at this point is Peacock folding/merging with another streamer and it doesn't fit with the new vision. With that said, considering how much these streamers pay for eight episode series, DAYS producing so many episodes for a fraction of that sum and drawing people into the app on a daily basis must seem pretty good.
  13. I'm just happy that the new regime at least gets a year to try and sell their vision for the show.

Deadline: https://deadline.com/2024/11/days-of-our-lives-renewed-season-61-peacock-1236164834/ More to come per the TvLine article...
  15. One of my earliest soap memories is Maggie drowning on Falcon Crest. It's just a scene of sheer panic that's always stuck with me for some reason.
  16. Agreed. I think focusing on the core cast for the first few months is probably wise, but since some characters might not end up working out (as is typical with new soaps) having "back up" options out there in the world... beyond Beyond the Gates is a good idea in itself. Of course, I'm sure there'll be a secret love child somewhere either way eventually.
  17. I'd assume that initially they'll probably focus on the absolute core families with the other contract players filling the "recurring" spots before being fleshed out to establish everyone, so I assume that we might get into late November or early December before we get more info about recurring players.
  18. His most famous role from soaps is on DAYS as Charlie, Ava's rapist son who eventually got murdered. He was wasted on DAYS, so it's nice to see him bounce back on Beyond the Gates. If there's a guy that a lot of people wanted back on DAYS due to them thirsting over him that had to get cast on Beyond the Gates, I'm happy it's him.
  19. She has a website selling tours, lol: https://visitpalmerhouse.com/ Not that I blame her - it's a nice extra income, especially if you're somewhat social.
  20. Two months ahead is pretty standard in both daytime and prime time, so I don't think they should really be any closer from tape-to-air.
  21. Probably nothing that Lynch and company are involved with since she's selling tours of the Palmer house. I'd assume it's just a bit of self-promotion in time for Halloween.
  22. I assume The Talk re-runs plus maybe post-election coverage. It ends December 6th so that's at least a month before the earliest start date though (January 6th). Honestly, it would be pretty cool if they did a week of behind the scenes specials leading up to BTG since they could use the CBS News infrastructure. ETA: I checked and last year they took a break from new The Talk episodes from December 15 to January 2nd. They're basically just ending it a week earlier than their usual winter break.
  23. Eh, everything seems to indicate a January debut date. They could've easily ordered more The Talk episodes if they decided to air it at a later date.
  24. Cropped the screen to give a better idea of the set: Clearly getting ready to film either next week or the week after.
  25. While it might seem like Beyond the Gates came from a clear blue sky for us, I'm pretty sure CBS has weighted pros and cons of every angle they're taking with their approach to this show. And yes, international revenue is a part of that - if that was a major concern they'd probably skip the political angle completely. I don't think international revenue has - in general - ever been priority for the majority of soaps (B&B is the exception, rather than the rule), so they're probably viewing that part of the income stream as bonus rather than a given in terms of profitability. Ultimately, there's been talk about replacing The Talk for a couple of seasons now. They didn't decide to order a new soap on a whim and they're not just muddling through. CBS has in general been very good at cultivating their audience in an era where linear television is dying.
