  1. Agree but this is something Y&R have always done. Katherine- Jill Foster will pay for what she has done! Nikki- How could Victor betray me with Ashley Abbott? etc
  2. Thanks for that clip. Those verandah scenes are definitely shot on the lot. Especially noticeable when they enter the house and we see out the door an obvious painted backdrop. Also I'm sure the exterior of the FC house and interior shown didn't match the actual floorplan,as is often the case. Probably the exterior scene by the pool may have been shot on a location nearer to the studio. Makes sense they would find locations nearby that could stand in for the real thing, after the initial location filming was completed.
  3. Dallas always shot the first few episodes of each season on location. I'm not sure for how long that practice continued. But I recall one episode where everyone was getting blown to bits in outdoor scenes due to the Texas winds, Victoria had to keep pushing hair off her face to deliver her lines. Then they would go back to that fake exterior backdrop of the ranch. Falcon Crest was always lush visually and the house and grounds were very much a character on the show. Did they have verandah scenes that were shot indoors?
  4. Nick is wandering around unattached yet there is no interaction with Chelsea who was his romantic interest throughout 2017. Why did they break up? As dull as Chelsea/Nick were, wouldn't it make more sense for them to have some kind of involvement than pair Chelsea with Rey, who she tried to kill? And what happened to that story anyway? Chelsea was locked up but then her mom got sick and it was decided the only way she could be let out was to be guarded (by Rey-really? A GC policeman can just go off and babysit a mental patient?) Anyway Rey returns alone as apparently Chelsea is suddenly no longer a threat or a patient. When she returns everything is OK and there are no charges laid or further treatment required. Gotta love the Josh Griffith school of storytelling. Pesky details like logic, motivation and follow through? Forget about 'em and move on
  5. As the poster who (inadvertently) ignited the drama on the OLTL thread, I hope that we can all move forward. We are here because of love/interest in soaps and really in the overall scheme of things it's just some fun and escapism. Like any community there are clashes, things said that perhaps shouldn't be and so on. But we all keep coming back. So@allmc2008 I hope you decide to post and know that you've chosen to bring some positivity and enjoy being able to share those treasures. End of speech.
  6. Victoria in one sleeved dress at CL while Nick is in overcoat. Phyllis in one sleeved dress at Grubby Peanut. Lauren goes sparkly for reunion at CL. But at least it has 2 sleeves. Note to costume department - please do better.
  7. This story, with the inclusion of somewhat shady research doctors would be a great addition to any such story. They could mix in with the devoted nurse who might develop ulterior motives for maybe keeping Gunnar from reconnecting with his past. It would also complicate things for Henry, as well as Barbara, Dusty, and anyone in Oakdale who remembers Gunnar. Throw in Vienna Hyatt who is still in love with Henry and has an interest in seeing him happy (but with her) and it could have been fun. Yes, Gunnar's return was a story waiting to be told on ATWT, especially as Barbara was a long term character who had been through a lot and this fitted into her history. Your outline sounds interesting and very 'old school' soap. However ATWT at that time would have probably cast a totally unsuitable ABC actor on a short term contract to be a vengeful ex who caused havoc and was quickly forgotten!
  8. Charo was everywhere in the 70's and 80's, guesting on variety shows and sitcoms (often as herself) but never managed her own starring vehicle. In the 70's there was both a sitcom and variety series proposed.
  9. NBC tried a Sanford and Son spinoff 'Grady' in which Whitman Mayo's character moves to Westwood to live with his daughter and her family. It lasted from Dec 74-March 75. Bizarrely they placed it at Thurs @ 8 up against The Waltons, which was Top 10 at the time and Welcome Back Kotter. It got a passable 30 share for it's debut but went down from there. NBC had only 2 comedies - Sanford and Chico and the Man and were trying to expand on that. Trouble was all the good slots were taken. When Grady was axed, Whitman returned to Sanford.
  10. Alan - So Ellen was an original character-that's wild! Do you remember putting on that very first show? Patricia-No, Ellen was there from the start but I came on a few years later to replace Wendy Drew. Alan - Ok. I just realized my name is Alan and you played Ellen - that's crazy!
  11. Agree. Multiple marriages can work if it fits the character. John Abbott didn't seem to have been married multiple times but he was wed to Dina, Jill (twice) Jessica and Gloria. For Nikki to be on her 3rd marriage by the time she wed Victor seemed in accord with her flighty nature (although some of her later marriages shouldn't have happened) But Ashley, Jack and Victoria stand out as having way too many trips down the aisle.
  12. So Chris Rock makes a lameish joke and Will takes it upon himself to use violence to 'defend' his wife. Did Jada have anything to say about this? Or does Will feel it's a man's responsibility to punch someone to protect a woman? Would he have slugged a woman had she made the joke? Pathetic and embarassing. So?
  13. I stopped watching as the show went to color after the death of Ann Howard and Alison leaving. The character of Rachel had just been introduced. I'll have to get back into it.
  14. Having long term characters marrying 5 or 6 times is ridiculous, especially when some of them were pointless. Victoria declaring her love for Ashland was hard to buy when she had been down that road so many times. And marrying Kyle and Summer was not needed..
  15. Faith could idolize him and follow some bad advice that leads her into trouble. A rivalry with Noah? Has the hots for Sally? Maybe he had some association with people from Tessa's shady past and causes problems for her and Mariah. Seems like a character that could be involved in a lot of stories. Now all we need is a charismatic actor and good writing...
  16. Ummm...it's the end of the month. The 35th anniversary has come and gone...so where is this twist?
  17. Blade and Ashley was a non event. This is when Bill Bell's 'try things out onscreen approach' failed dismally. And why marry Ashley and Blade? It made no sense at the time and longterm just gave Ashley another marriage on her resume that made her look foolish and fickle. The whole story could have played the same with them as a couple. Play up Ashley's reluctance to commit based on her track record. Same with Cole- a relationship if we must but not a marriage.
  18. Bobby's absence was seen as the reason for the ratings drop, not the actual content of that season. With all the hype, people tuned back in to see Bobby's return. But once Bobby was back, ratings continued to drop. That was an inbuilt limitation of the primetime soaps. They had an hour a week and a template to follow. JR had to be front and center so everyone else took a back seat. Daytime soaps have much more flexibility to make changes.
  19. That second cast photo really illustrates that the cast had grown way too much. But chopping the likes of Lynne, Gina, Mary, Miguel etc was a bad move in my opinion. These characters represented stability in GC. They never really had stories so didn't have the crazy character histories of the main characters. But again looking at the photo it's difficult to decide who to drop. My first choice would be Brittany but I can see the reasoning for keeping her. She was a new character with no baggage in the right age group who like Nikki before could blossom into a lead. They realized that you shouldn't rely solely on the same characters year after year. They get so entrenched that viewers expect to see them and new characters aren't warmly received if they backburner the longterm characters. It's a tricky road to navigate.
  20. CBS just failed to regenerate their lineup. They had been winning Thursday with Magnum/Simom &Simon/Knots Landing but Cosby came along and destroyed that. Magnum moved to Wed and the best CBS could now offer was Tour of Duty and Wiseguy. Meanwhile Friday saw Dallas and Falcon Crest losing viewers each season but CBS left them there. The Monday comedy lineup Newhart/Designing Women was aging. Frank's Place at 8 was too niche to lead off the night. Tues/Wed and Sat had always been a struggle for CBS with those other nights including Sunday holding them up. But with the formerly strong nights failing they were in trouble,
  21. Maurice is giving me Bela Lugosi. I've dipped into his podcast guess he's doing some good but he's so intense that I couldn't stay with it.
  22. Sharon searching for her dad could be interesting. She could discover he had a mental illness, which would help explain her own traumas and maybe she could find a half sibling out there. Rey and Sharon could search together and we could see them happy and being a team. However, let's say Sharon's half brother is a bit of a loser with a criminal record and Rey dislikes him but Sharon wants to believe she can redeem him. Conflict for those two which the brother exploits.
  23. Top 10 daytime among blacks (Jan.-Feb. 1988) 1. Young & Restless (CSS) 18.3 2. All My Children (ABC) 17.8 3. One Life to Live (ABC) 16.2 4. As the World Turns 14.2 (C8S) 4. General Hospital 14.2 (ABC)(Tle) 6. Guiding Light (CBS) 13.1 7. Bold & the Beautiful 13.0 (CBS) 8. Price Is Right (CBS) 12.8 9. Loving (ABC) 10.6 10. Santa Barbara (NBC) 8.6 No sign of Days...
  24. Especially as she is supposed to be dead. The explanation will be as stupid as the idea. Isn't faking your death a crime? Except Kyle isn't on the show anymore. So now he needs to come back. It's all quite convuluted and unnecessary. Bringing on Allie was enough.
  25. What characters do you think should have hung around longer or returned at some point? I think Terry and Lorraine could have had more airtime.
