  1. Well that was 20 years earlier. Maybe Burke was one of those actors that couldn't deal with the rigors of daytime, having to learn scripts quickly, not much rehearsal, multiple scenes in a day etc
  2. Josh - can you believe that CBS is actually airing the scripts I have Chat GPT whip up? Michelle- I know it's hilarious!
  3. That was the season that began late because of a writers strike. CBS had replayed the first 5 episodes and episodes leading up to Who shot JR? The schedule was still a mixture of new episodes, specials,TV movies and repeats. Mon ABC win Football #19 CBS Flo/ Ladies Man /Mash Rpt #11/12/17. NBC Little House #18 Tues CBS win Election night so no series that night. Wed CBS win Dukes of Hazzard special ep @8 which was a spinoff to Enos 29 share and the Love at First Bite movie #12. ABC 2hr Vegas premiere which scored a 25 share. NBC won 8pm with Real People #16 and then Pt 1 of Alcatraz The Whole Shocking Story had a 16.9 rating Thurs CBS win TV Movie Scared Straight Another Story 27 share before Dallas rpt #9. NBC had Pt 2 of Alcatraz but ABC That's Incredible special #14 Barney Miller #21 and It's a Living #25 Fri CBS win Incredible Hulk 31 share Dallas #4 and #2 . ABC Benson/I'm A Big Girl Now improved scored in 2nd week of new episodes Sat ABC win 90 min Love Boat/Fantasy Island Sun CBS win All shows in Top 8 ABC Spy Who Loved Me #20. NBC All the Presidents Men 13.6/19
  4. So many 'old' people throughout that episode. A few years later anyone over 50 were pretty much axed or marginalized. And a lot was lost in the process.
  5. Hidden Faces Martha Logan Ensley ...Louise Shaffer
  6. Seems Wilbur (John Towey) has recently married young heroine Martha(Louise Shaffer in her first soap role) but devious Kelly (Mary Bracken Phillips)is trying to hold on to him by threatening to reveal their past .Wilbur's mother Grace (Ludi Claire) is the possessive type. Martha's sister Kate (Gretchen Walther) is the other heroine involved with lead Arthur Adams (Conard Fowkes) John Towey is still alive -83 years old and has along list of credits. Ludi Claire had worked on Edge so Vendig was familiar with her. NBC had Hidden Faces in development for a while but went ahead when they lost Let's Make A Deal. I'm sure it was intended as their answer to Edge of Night and would have been slotted later in the day but for the need for a show in the 1.30 timeslot. From that scene and other pics the sets looked good and they used orchestral music rather than organ still being used on P&G soaps.
  7. Veronica Redd is only 74. I had in my mind she would be much older by now. It would be great to see Victoria/Dru back-maybe a fantasy sequence where Lily imagines her mom was still alive. As for VR coming back full time,I think the ship has sailed. It would mean another BFTD story and with the current writing that would be awful. And I'm sure they're nervous in the current climate to have an outspoken actress whose views are known. They'd be tip toeing around to accommodate her. Better in their minds to avoid any possible issues. It's a pity they wait for special events to bring people back. Should be part of day to day storytelling. A lot of actors seem quite happy to pop in.
  8. And Portugal of all places. Why not just somewhere in the US? It's not like Daniel will ever visit them anyway. So Daniel, Heather and Lucy are at Society when Phyllis swoops in. Meanwhile billionaire Victor is propped up in front of a laptop at Crimson Lights. Would have been better to swap those 2 around. At least Society has some pretense of style. No wonder CL is always empty. Not very enticing to sit in a cafe with a robot a spart of the decor, especially when said robot looks like a kids failed school project. Are we supposed to feel sympathy for Phyllis as she stirs up trouble from one scene to the next?

  10. Thanks for posting, particularly the 60's and 70's shots. Sadly,in the early 70's Marco St John's wife was murdered in their apartment while he was performing in a play.
  11. Marshall Karp vp of ABC daytime was replaced by Micheal Eisner in Feb 71. Under Karp ABC initiated the 90 min serial block of The Best of Everything/A World Apart/All My Children. With BOE cancelled due to abysmal ratings, AWA struggling resulting in the dismissal of Irna and Katherine Phillips and AMC low rated Karp had to take the blame. Also Dark Shadows dwindled away in the PM.
  12. I wonder who else might have been approached? it's a fairly random list.
  13. The Doctors was Marland's first headwriting stint after working on Another World. Maybe he had difficulty adjusting to a new environment and going to a half hour show. Don't know what his relationship was with the EP, so there could have been a lot of BTS stuff going on. One thing he did say that he learned from TD is that if you come into a show and don't relate to a story you should wrap it up quickly. He was referring to the Matt/Joan Dancy situation which he inherited and continued with even though he didn't enjoy writing it. In retrospect,he wished he had wrapped it up immediately and moved on.

  16. Requests Agnes Nixon Mimi Kennedy Mike Hammett Michael Carven Diana Barton James riordan
  17. Aaron Spelling had an exclusive contract with ABC throughout the 70's and into the 80's. Pretty sure he was guaranteed a series on the schedule each year. So there were plenty of hits but some misses along the way: The Colbys Life With Lucy MacGruder and Loud Strike Force BAD Cats Glitter Finder of Lost Loves San Pedro Beach Bums Friends Hollywood Beat Aloha Paradise At Ease Heartbeat And a lot of pilots that were rejected also.
  18. Kristoff St John/ Debbi Morgan - Adam/Chantal Gen Neil/Harmony Y&R
  19. So 11-20 candidates are Lorie Nick Sharon Sheila Phyllis Traci Adam Lauren John Abbott Neil Malcolm Nina Brad Carlton Your thoughts?
  20. #63 and #64 missing from that list - Call to Glory and Berrengers The Robert Kennedy mini-series was a flop. ABC won the week and CBS/NBC tied for 2nd. Strangely Codename Foxfire which had good numbers for the pilot on the previous Sunday didn't debut that Fri in its intended timeslot. Instead NBC showed a Bloopers special. So by the following week a lot of momentum was lost.
  21. That 7th place finish for Webster was its highest rating ever. It was a 'very special episode' dealing with child molestation. That pushed V to a season low while Miami Vice was repeating the 2 hr pilot. On Sunday NBC aired 'Codename Foxfire' John McCook's foray into a primetime series. Considering he left Y&R in 1980 he had put in the hard yards before landing a series but the show was a flop on Fri nights so he was ready to go back to soaps by 87. Berrengers aired a special Sun at 10 which had its best ratings to date but nothing special. Otherworld debuted Sat on CBS - another attempt to find if not a hit, at least a competitive show but it failed its mission.
  22. I recall him grousing in an interview that ABC was more willing to pay him off rather than give him access to primetime roles. I guess in some cases the execs who might have agreed to that initially were soon gone and the next had no interest.
  23. The movie 'Any Which Way you Can' which was a repeat. That gave ABCs Street Hawk (with Rex Smith) it's season high. NBC was airing Hunter/Miami Vice. The following week Dallas was back to 1st place. Yellow Rose was another soap that didn't work Saturdays. The general thought was that soaps needed viewers available each week to follow the story and too many people went out Saturdays on a regular basis so their viewership was interrupted. There may be truth in that but all of those shows had an uphill battle in that they were given timeslots that were weak for the network and followed shows that were also failures. Saturdays had been a disaster for CBS since the late 70's while ABC took hold with Love Boat/Fantasy Island. So by the time 10 o'clock rolled round viewers had been avoiding CBS all evening. That was the case for both Dallas and Midland Heights. Similarly by the time Berrengers was inserted at 10pm NBC had been trying various shows to no success. The other issue might be the shows themselves. I never saw Midland Heights but one issue was the show was originally developed for 8pm -hence the teen cast. Then CBS wanted it sexed up for 10 pm and the show never gelled. Kings Crossing was 8pm and utilized some of the same cast but obviously didn't work. Berrengers had a large cast and a lot of stories which made it confusing at first. So a lot of those shows faced issues. Riptide benefited from the A Team lead in and weak competition. Once A Team started to soften and Moonlighting came along Riptide went under.
  24. If others can be photoshopped in then Leslie should definitely be included.
