Maybe if Tom King only had to write for a 60 min show, things might have been different. But the 90 min format was simply unworkable.

Tom Eplin 3 marriages, 2 daughters from a 3rd marriage that lasts 5 years. He must think he's a soap character. Don't know her marriage history but wouldn't you think twice about marrying someone who's already wed twice? And as it turns out, they divorce after 5 years. And 2 children have to deal with that.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
Two flop mini series in that list Fresno, the Carol Burnett sendup which dived after the first episode and Monte Carlo,Joan Collins' second and final mini series. The first Sins did well, but no such luck 2nd time around. Joan's moment was coming to an end. Poor Lucy, a sad ending to her career. She should have taken a leaf out of Angela's book and played a nosy amateur sleuth in a comedy mystery.

Days: February 2023 Discussion Thread
Wouldn't Days be shouting from the rooftops if it was Peacocks #1 show? Peacock might be keeping it quiet because it might not be good for their image to have a daytime soap as their most popular show...

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
I think those last 3 didn't score so well and that was the end of those epic mini series. The other networks did attempt some of more than the usual 3 parts/6 hours including Shogun NBC 12 hours/5 nights September 1980 Space CBS 13 hours/5 parts April 1985

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
It's difficult sometimes to know who was actually responsible for a certain program. Shogun for example aired when Silverman was in charge, but I have a feeling that a massive mini series like that may have been commissioned before he came on board. When Silverman came to NBC, their programming was in tatters. They had no successful comedies, as this had never been an NBC priority, even when Sanford was a hit. They were locked into commitment deals with Universal, which he felt was restricting as other producers would not bring ideas to NBC. They were running long form programming most nights of the week. Silverman believed series(especially comedies) were the key to success. He had a hit off the bat with Diff'rent Strokes but struggled to build on that. In his first couple of seasons he was constantly juggling the schedule and series were coming and going every few weeks. Then he decided to go for more balance and quality programming buoyed by the success of Hill St Blues. I think he felt the burden of expectations after super successful stints at CBS/ABC. He should have written a book about all of this.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
Yes, I believe Cap Cities went on a big cost cutting spree and that was reflected in the paucity of big mini series, tv movies , specials and midseason replacements.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Plenty of women before her. Cicely Tyson, Liliaan Hayman,Ellen Holly,Janet Du'Bois etc. She wasn't even Days first female black character. Not to discount Ketty Lester in any way but as Carl said, another example of misinformation presented as fact.

"Secret Storm" memories.
On June 23 1969, CBS took over Secret Storm from Roy Winsor Productions. Shortly after Chuck Weiss was appointed Executive Producer and Bernie Sofronski Assistant Producer. Ediie Layton was made music director and Michael Onofrio and Portland Paget were new directors. Rosemary Murphy and Barbara Rodell were new castmembers and Haila Stoddard and Judy Lewis returned as Pauline and Susan. Were there new writers also appointed -perhaps Bethel Leslie/Gerry Day? Or did they come later?

Dallas Discussion Thread
Those barely legal California twink types do nothing for me, but to each his own. It kind of made Sue Ellen look a little desperate and foolish.
