  1. $70,000 in 75 is worth about $390,000 today according to an internet calculator.
  2. Yes, I read that before but I thought that the renting aspect might also be a factor. Just a theory. Wonder where Y&R will relocate to? I imagine that moving the whole production will be costly. Wonder if there will be more onscreen cuts to compensate?
  3. Exactly. The Corringtons revamped the show and set it up for the future. But subsequent writers played fast and loose, dropping most of those characters and constantly making changes. By the end only Stu, Jo and Sunny had been on for more than a few years without recasts like Liza and Patti. That's not a way to keep viewers loyal.
  4. I think they are just extras. That guy vaguely resembles Miguel but is too young. Anthony Pena is 76.
  5. Once CBS sold the facility I guess they were renting floorspace from the new owners? That might explain fewer and smaller sets. The less space they rent, the lower the cost.
  6. GCAC Lounge? I'm looking forward to seeing this and how it connects to the reborn GCAC. Interesting that these sets are appearing/returning now that Morina is gone. Maybe Josh was overruled on their usage. It seems Glum Club has vanished, although might just be in mothballs for now-it was weird concept for a gathering place...and damn ugly too.
  7. I'd say Paul & Christine on Y&R, only because the decision to have them remarry seriously compromised the character of Paul. Because LLB was unwilling to work more regularly there was little for Paul to do outside of police work. That was limiting to the point where he was dropped from the show.
  8. That Jill scene was just shown in Tracey's 40th anni episode, which again leads me to believe that production suggested a scene and the actors went along with it. Shows alack of interest from all concerned.
  9. Re Lorne Greene- he was starring in Bonanza 59-73 so don't think he would ever have done GH.
  10. I always found Paul Burke to be very stiff and unappealing as an actor .He was in alot of primetime stuff in the 70's and I could never see the appeal. Same with Ken Howard and Granville Van Dusen. When they started on soaps (Dynasty and Y&R) they might have been known names but they were boring to watch.
  11. I'm pretty sure when Kin Shriner left GH for Texas it was stated his salary was around $300,000 which made him the highest paid soap star. Remember that is in 1980 dollars. Back in 74 Rosemary Prinz negotiated for $1000 an episode for How to Survive A Marriage with a 3 day work week. So about $155,000 per year. So no one would have been making a million in 1980.
  12. Maybe Millee was ready to go after 11 years? It would have been nice to have Janet around recurring. That character originated in the 50's so had been through a lot of story -at least 3 marriages. But if they brought back Gary who was a viable character and a teen Danny then Janet would have had a bit to do as their mother and Stu's daughter. Enough of the plot driven Travis & Liza in danger stuff. Give them something else to do. For Jo a recast Bruce and/or Patti and 1982 would have been much better set up.
  13. If only.... Either a fantasy sequence or Phyllis fakes her death to frame Diane. Or something equally lame.
  14. Peter DeAnda as Price Trainor The men in Carla's life
  15. Nat Polen was 20 years older than Robert Milli. I imagine that recasting was done on purpose to erase any possibility of a romance. If Milli or a man of similar age was in the role, then viewers would be reminded of the romance and it seems ABC didn't want that happening. Maybe Agnes had the story approved on the grounds that once Carla's identity was revealed, there was no possibility of it being rekindled.
  16. You'd think they might be a little embarassed to win by default. We felt that these episodes were a good representation of what ‘Days of our Lives’ does best: high-stakes family drama with a comedic twist.” Seriously deluded.
  17. Y&R Cane/Lily - even killing him off didn't work -right up till the end they had to stay together when she should have kicked him to the kerb years before.
  18. Never seen that before. Maybe it was some way of making the character more 'hip'? There were so many changes around that time. I think that is Janet's farewell. They kind of played both ways in that Janet was saying it was just a vacation but they knew Millee wasn't returning so there were a lot more'farewell' scenes than just if the actor was off for a break. That way viewers wouldn't be upset that along time actor/character was out. The show was still viable at this point and Ellis/Hunt were experienced writers but the stories were bad and more change was to come. Soon Ted,Tom, Cissy, Kathy were gone and instead of refocusing subsequent writers kept bringing on new people.
  19. Barbara Luddy Story of Mary Marlin 1941 Days of Our Lives Mrs Davis 1966 Mrs Ryan , juror at Susan Martin's trial 1967 Martin Blaine Lorenzo Jones 1949 Nona from Nowhere 1950 Days of Our Lives Dr Joe Hendricks 1967
  20. Antonia 'Toni' Gilman Days of Our Lives Nurse Adams 1971 Lenore Kingston Days of Our Lives Ethel 1969 Dan Ferrone Days of Our Lives Lou 1968 Paul Carr Days of Our Lives Dr Forbes 1968 Phyllis Hill Days of Our Lives Mrs Williams 1968 Judith McConnell Days of Our Lives Nurse Evans 1968
  21. Y&R struck gold with Terry and Eileen. Although she was a 'good' character Eileen brought in that sarcasm and cynicism that gave her an edge. She still has it till this day, which is why I still enjoy watching her even in lousy stories. But once Peter was entrenched as Jack, the character changed. Seeing Jack mooning over Diane -there's no way Terry's Jack even all these years later would be playing it that way.
  22. She looks great, but that background...
  23. Judson Laire/Diana Douglas
  24. The final cast below but first 1966
  25. A 1965 TV Guide blurb lists Bill as being played by Curtis Taylor. There are a couple of actors named Curtis Taylor but none seems to match that actor.
