GENERAL HOSPITAL December 2021 Discussion Thread
I know what you mean. He's so jovial and dapper with a twinkle in his eye that he feels like a charming rogue rather than evil crime syndicate boss. In Mad Men, he played the same kind of dapper-gentleman character, but that charm hid a ruthlessness which revealed itself when he basically pulled the rug from under the ad agency. I feel like this will be the case here with Victor.

Is anyone besides John McCook remotely invested in a 'romantic' SL for this 85-year old sleaze hound?

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Slightly underwhelmed! Heather's was the best but a bit repetitive. Debbie Downer Shannon is NOT Miss Sunshine, please Bravo. Gina = casita, Emily = booze. OK. We are sticking with those SLs, huh. Dr. Jen giving us innuendo-laden jabs? The MAGA anti-vax community will be clutching their pearls! And perhaps most egregiously: Noella's tagline was ripped off wholesale from Lizzie's "Standing out is much more fun than fitting in" tag! Some BH news. The Kemsleys working hard for that diamond. They must really need that Bravo cheque to pay off the Encino home!

How quickly we forget! Four degrees! DOCTOR! Address me correctly. SWEETIE! Adding to the chorus of goodwill being extended to RHOC. Heather is such a consistent personality, it felt like no time had elapsed between S11 and now. (BTW @Taoboi I watched most of OC last season. I ducked out after Lake Arrowhead because the episodes looked boring, tuned in to a frankly awful season finale, tuned into a better-than-feared reunion to watch the downfall of Braunwyn and Kelly "I'm black so I can't be racist" Doddlezal. So glad these two oxygen-suckers are gone. Kelly in particular was a truly horrible person and I hope the Rage Monster never returns). It was great to see the Dubrow kids all grown up (little Coco!). Dr. Terry was quieter than usual, though, which is a shame because OC Husbands/Pardners are wonderfully messy (Jim Bellino, Brooks, David Beador) and Terry's mouth got him in trouble more than once! He and Tamra always had a fun, gossipy rapport. (And yes, it goes without saying that Tamra is the major missing piece of this OC puzzle). I like Emily & Gina's tried-and-true friendship, and Gina has effortlessly slipped into that Voice of the Audience role. I feel like we are viewing the proceedings in a similar way to her, and she is like our entry point into the OC world. Gina's genuine joy at Heather's house was something we could all appreciate with no jealousy or rancor. Unlike Shannon. BTW I'm here for the Shannon getting exposed this season vibe. In hindsight, the damage done to RHONY may have been worse than OC -- mainly because we know Tamra, Vicki, Heather and possibly Alexis were likely waiting in the wings. Last season RHONY, I found myself longing not so much for Jill, but for Heather, Carole and Aviva as a triumvirate. I still would like them back. And sure, Bethenny is always the most dynamic presence, can't deny that.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Just so, so ridiculous! I've always wondered if Andy is really not into Latinas, especially ones with slight accents like Adriana. Even though all of us watching can perfectly understand Adriana and enjoy her Brazilian telenovela flair. There is no reason Adriana couldn't be a mojito-holder, and Martina Navratilova's wife (I mean, God bless, because Martina is a straight-up ICON), who barely appears in the trailer, couldn't be a FOH. Marysol, too, is like a tentpole figure whose PR business united all the women in the OG RHOMi. ITA that Marysol seems a lot more entertaining than she was on the original series. Back then, Mama Elsa dominated and Marysol seemed a lot shyer, more passive and sensitive. Since her mother's death, I imagine Marysol has had to come to terms with that and come into her own fabulousness. I always found it interesting that Marysol, Alexia and Adriana had an understanding (las cubanas + la brasileira) to the detriment of other friendships. Thanks for the glowing review! I will catch up on it. Does it feel like familiar OC? I feel like OC lost some of its familiar OC magic in the last few seasons, so I'm excited about Heather returning. Obviously if Tamra popped up, it would be phenomenal! I'm just so glad the toxic, exhausting Kelly Doddlezal is no longer on the show. I can't overstate how much she was ruining the show for me.

Reilly on DAYS - a renewed appreciation
Couldn't have said it better myself @titan1978. Reilly's run during most of the first half of the 90s was Must Watch TV. I used to watch with friends and almost every episode (especially the Friday cliff-hangers) gave us goose bumps while watching, there was so much going on and they were so exciting. And I'm not talking cheap-thrills exciting, I'm talking Sami going from problem child to villainess, Marlena and John struggling with their attraction to each other (which had been established at least two years before the incident on John's private jet!). People's relationships with each other across the cast of characters were being fleshed out with care, hitting all the marks, never rushed, but you always felt there was momentum in these relationships and you didn't always know where they were going. Reilly was invested in this gothicky little town of Salem -- where most scenes seemed to take place after sundown (!!) -- and the denizens. He clearly loved writing for Marlena and her torment as she tried to do the right thing while staying honest with herself, but I never felt the other characters were shortchanged. And Reilly really painted a picture of a community, with all the age groups represented. I have such happy memories of Days during this time -- a golden age for soaps in general, IMO, because TPTB put in the effort and seemed to care about the stories and characters. Like on Days TPTB seemed caught up in the whirl and excitement of certain SLs the way the viewers did.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
The OC premiere was apparently last night, and I must say that is the quietest I have ever seen Bravo about a RH franchise starting a new season. I didn't even know it was happening until I saw a few mentions on social media. Compared with BH and Potomac, all we had was the She's Baaack trailer. I hope they keep Feel the Rush as the opening music because it is a certified BOP.

She's on Kim K's 2018 face by the looks of things. It's a shame because Larsa messed with what didn't need to be messed with. She was one of the prettiest in S1. I also did a double-take at Adriana's facial work. Weirdly, Marysol, Alexia and Lisa look near-identical to how they looked on the OG RHOMi. The trailer is missing some of the kooky Cuban magic of the original show, but I get that this is a trailer and you lead with the drama. And I notice My Alexia's dramatic personal life is once again front and centre.

Shocking Truth | General Hospital promo (week of November 29, 2021)
Every time I see FV or LW interviewed about Carly's upcoming storylines, they always say "...and of course Carly stomps in and throws her weight around, because that's Carly being Carly!" Basically, the show has a specific, one-dimensional view of the character, and they keep it simple like that because they assume that fans live for Carly 'kicking ass' and being a 'boss.' And LW, who is both popular and polarizing, delivers on that characterization. GH missed a trick with the Jason wedding. Jason has always been the one who got away. Sonny was kind of Carly's second choice back in the day because Jason never really wanted her. And Carly was able to suppress that rejection because she had Jason emotionally tied to her via Michael for years. She put up with being friend-zoned for +2 decades, but the wedding should have been the dam breaking for her, where finally, FINALLY, Jason was going to be all hers. Finally she had another chance to make him fall in love with her the way she had always been with him. And then Sonny comes back, and of course she HAS to get back with Sonny but... And thereupon we have new storyline of five people featuring Carly, Jason Britt, Sonny and Nina, and with Carly perhaps no longer willing to keep her frustrated desire under lock-and-key anymore. And with Jason presumed dead, this could send Carly in a tailspin where she is forced to come to terms with having her 'second chance' with Jason nipped from her grasp. Anyhoo, I'm doing what a lot of viewers do which is "If I was HWing this sh!t..."

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I wouldn't put the demise of Miami all at Adriana's door. She wasn't the only one lying -- Joanna marrying Romain reeked of insta-TV wedding. Honestly, I blame production for pushing 'Duelling Weddings' as THE ONLY storyline sustaining 16 episodes. Weddings aren't quite the draw Bravo thinks they are, and it was boring watching hours of these chicks trying on dresses, etc. Season 3 suffered from: -a reduced wider cast; -No Mama Elsa (a major factor IMO); -no lightening-rod Karent; -increased toxicity amongst the women. By the end, most of the cast clearly couldn't stand each other, or were drumming up a bunch of insta-fights (Lisa vs Joanna, Marysol's never-ending hounding of Lea). Lea was ready to peace out of the franchise altogether before it even ended. Reunion was a disaster because the rest of the cast were desperate to make S4 happen and just threw anything at the wall to see what stuck. Adriana, whatever you may think about her, was highly dramatic and a big pot-stirrer. I think she deserves a spot more than Larsa, but we will see how the Miami reboot shakes out. I do worry that we haven't seen any trailer or promo for this, unlike RHUGT which was trailed over a month in advance.

The fact that Kardashian reject Larsa is there but Adriana isn't is a travesty imo!

Don't shoot me but I enjoyed the Minaj episode. Yes, Ninja girl wishes she was on this show. Yes, she was demonstrating how expertly messy she is. But she was also asking all the questions we have wanted Andy to ask for years. She didn't sugar-coat, but she wasn't a complete b!tch either. And she was largely equal in her shade distribution. No protecting of Bravo's investment Gizelle here! If anything, I'd say Karen got off the easiest (though not completely) and NM disliked Candiace the most. At the end, though, Candiace proved she had vocal chops and likely got a few more downloads of her album. So why Chris overreacted is a mystery -- it only underscores his co-dependent coddling of Candiace which leaves her unable to take the slightest criticism from anybody. And so foolish of them to demonstrate this further on IG Live yesterday. Either they want to milk the moment -- or they have zero humor and an inflated sense of their own importance in the fame game. ETA: Started to watch the Porsha show which appears yo be a tie-in with her book release. Um. This is not the reputation white-washing Porsha thinks it is. Bravo may have built her up to tear her down.

RIP Lisa Brown
Lisa Brown radiated passion and vivacity. Even when she didn't speak, you could read the emotions sweeping across her face. 67 is too young IMO.

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
@Taoboi I'm so glad you have a (Thanksgiving) moment to catch up! Hope this also means a Part 2 and Part 3 binge-watch? I just wanted to let you and @Chris B know that I've started re-watching RHOMiami season 1. I haven't watched since it aired over a decade ago. I thought I would hate it and switch off but, you know what, it's a fun ride thus far! I remember trashing it at the time, but there is something about it that is reminiscent of early RHONY. So far, I am adoring Alexia and Lea and Adriana. Alexia and Adriana's lives are full-on soap opera diva. Lea is basically the Queen Bee of Miami who makes things happen. Hence the flashes of jealousy towards her from all the other women. But I can see why the Lost Kardashian Sister (Larsa) and Cristy 'Supermodel in her own mind' Rice were let go. Both are vapid mean girls with literally awful personalities. Larsa has zero kindness or empathy, while basic b!tch Cristy lost her meal-ticket athlete husband screwing the pool-boy, but still thinks people should be kissing her a$$. Like I said, it's an unexpectedly fun ride!

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
Shannon aged about 5-10 years the moment she cast her eye around that foyer. And when she saw that Heather had roped off the upper rooms from the guests like it was Buckingham Palace. Porsha's Family Matters and um eek Porsha. Nobody believes any of these timelines! I would even say there are differences between hateful sourpuss Erika Girardi and Jen Shah in that I don't believe Erika came up with idea to defraud at the law firm -- Tom was already moving money around and robbing Peter to pay Paul. Jen seems much more involved in having put the fraud in place and pressing 'GO.' Jen Shah comes across a bit better than Erika onscreen but, nevertheless, my jaw did drop when she said "My only crime is that I've been TOO giving." I wonder if the ABC News exposé will make a difference to how people perceive her, because it did when it came to the Girardis.
