  1. Two Alexis clones on one show? I once read Santa Barbara described as a dollar store Dynasty.
  2. I haven't seen alot of Brenda Dickson's 1973-1980 run to judge her acting style, but from what I've seen of her 1983-1987 run, she starting getting OTT in her acting style around 1985. It got worse during 1986 and 1987.
  3. Italy seems to be the only non-English speaking country that aired episodes before 1986. Y&R started in Australia in 1974 and in New Zealand in 1977. As far as Canada goes, I know Global started airing Y&R in 1984, and CHCH aired Y&R before that but I don't know the start year.
  4. Y&R episode of Friday December 22, 1989. Bill Bell had Marge watch B&B since it was his other show, but I guess he wasn't thinking ahead to potential crossovers at that time. Was this when Bradley was trying to recast Ridge with Peter Reckell?
  5. Bill Bell forgot about the Y&R scene from December 1989 where Marge was watching B&B. We could hear some dialogue and the B&B theme music.
  6. @Soapsuds Thank you for the link to the 1979 episode. Episodes of the Roger/Holly storylines from 1979 and 1980 are such a treat, as those storylines set in motion so much of what we saw a decade later during the Calhoun era.
  7. So four adult Kyles in the last 8 or 9 years? I lost track of the Kyles after the kid with the Bieber bangs.
  8. I can't remember how long the last renewal is until. At this point I say plan the ending to coincide w/ the 50th anniversary in March 2023.
  9. Which show is worse in your opinion, Capitol or B&B? Capitol served two purposes. CBS needed something young and glamorous to compete with ABC, and it was a time filler until Bill Bell had a second show ready. CBS approached Bill Bell in 1977 for a second show but for whatever reason he didn't have one ready until a decade later. If Bill Bell had a second show ready in 1977, we probably wouldn't have gotten GL expanding to one hour that year. I really think CBS wanted a second Bill Bell show to replace Search for Tomorrow in 1982 but early 1980s Y&R was in transition mode so Bill Bell was probably focused on getting Y&R settled at that time. Even if CBS kept Search for Tomorrow, it would have ended once Bill Bell had a second show ready to go.
  10. I didn't watch GL for very long, Spring 1989 to Summer 1992, but I'm so glad I was able to see that era live as much as school would allow and then online years later.
  11. 1999 - Daytime Emmy Awards - Stuart Damon - YouTube RIP. I'm sure there will be a lot of tributes on social media over the next few days.
  12. Has anyone commented on the Marguerite Ray/Veronica Redd mixup in the In Memoriam segment? Veronica Redd is still alive AFAIK.
  13. CBS probably would've shrunken the game show block to accommodate these new shows. I'm thinking the ET schedule would've changed to: 10-11 am The Price is Right 11 am-Noon New Daytime Dramas Noon-12:30 pm Local News 12:30-1:30 pm Y&R 1:30-2:30 pm As the World Turns 2:30-3 pm Capitol 3-4 pm Guiding Light 4-4:30 pm $25,000 Pyramid
  14. Even if any of these made it to CBS Daytime, they would've been placeholders/time-fillers until Bill Bell had a second show ready.
  15. Fall 1990 to end of 1992 Days was that transition period between the supercouple era and Reilly's sci-fi era. It's one of those periods that's not really talked about much.
  16. Marla Adams winning was the highlight of this sad sack show. Marla is the first winner in either supporting or lead that was over age 80 at the time of their win.
  17. Hahaha. I'll just follow along here, as I've been doing for the last decade. It's more fun than watching the actual ceremony.
  18. JFP got GL's ratings up in 1991/1992 and the blackout was the zenith. Sadly the momentum didn't last. I will forever maintain that Robert Calhoun laid all the groundwork but JFP got all the credit. I still can't believe that JFP lasted almost 4 years (July 1991 to May 1995), almost twice as long as Robert Calhoun (June 1989 to July 1991). I'd say the original FOJ at least on GL was Vincent Irizarry. I think Nick was introduced not long after JFP became EP. Also while on GL Mark Derwin was added to the FOJ list, I believe she got him cast on One Life to Live in the late 1990s.
  19. Also by this fall Heather Tom will have been Katie for 14 years, 1 year longer than she was Victoria.
  20. Based on their Instagram, Ian Buchanan. The speculation about Susan Flannery is also 20+ years, but at this point in her life (retired and turning 82 next month) she may not feel the need to be open publicly, but for all we know she could be open among her family/friends.
  21. 20+ years of speculation has finally been put to an end.
  22. @FrenchBug82 @Paul Raven Also Whiteface Tyrone. That would not happen today. I got the impression Jazz was brought on to cash in on Mr. T's popularity. Tyrone was another Bill Bell educated professional with a troublemaking sibling (see also Casey/Nikki, Olivia/Dru, Neil/Malcolm). That whole police corruption/mob angle during the H. Wesley Kenney years was way too General Hospital/Days. I wonder how much of that was Bill Bell's own choice and how much of it was pressure from CBS to jump on the action/adventure bandwagon. Notice how all the action/adventure elements pretty much disappeared once Ed Scott took over as EP.
  23. Both Bell shows had racially offensive storylines in the summer of 1994. Taylor the Desert Princess was bad, but Keemo's introduction was worse.
  24. Victor and Sharon were never shown in bed together. There was one scene where they held hands and walked upstairs together, so the bedroom activities were implied.
  25. I've blocked out Ashley's 1996-1999 storylines from my mind. Worst recast ever, even moreso than Eddie Winslow.
