Wheel of Fortune was moved to 11 am, where it would be head-to-head with the first half of The Price is Right. January 3, 1983 The Price is Right debuts a pricing game that would become one of its most popular, Plinko.

Y&R: Old Articles
Nikki was from a working class background and got the come up with her marriage to Victor. From what I've seen of early Nikki, I don't think she was all about the come up. Nikki wanted to be loved and adored and cared for. Nikki/Sharon had the Bill Bell element of wealthy older woman in conflict with working class young woman. There was also the element of the wealthy older woman being from a working class background and dealing with a younger version of herself. During the classics we saw an episode where Nikki was ranting to Victor about Nick being interested in Sharon and Victor reminded Nikki of her past ("you were considered a gold digger once" or something like that).

Come on now, don't knock Urkel 😆 He saved Family Matters from cancellation.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
All three networks had a primetime mess era in the 1980s. CBS: Starting when Dallas fell out of the Top 10 in Spring 1987 to the end of the decade. ABC: Fall 1984 to Spring 1987, despite Dynasty reaching #1 in Spring 1985 and the Tuesday rebound in 1985/86 with Who's the Boss, Growing Pains, Moonlighting. Saved in 1987/88 by the Tuesday lineup, World Series, Super Bowl, Winter Olympics. NBC: From the beginning of the decade until The Cosby Show premiered in Fall 1984.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
I had no memory of Charlie & Co. from when it was originally broadcast. I learned about it years later and I've watched the episodes that have surfaced online. It had a talented cast but I feel CBS didn't have a lot of faith in it. Jaleel White was so cute and natural in his role and he and Kristoff St. John (RIP) had a good connection as brothers. Just think, if Charlie & Co. had taken off and become a hit, we might not have gotten Urkel or Neil.

I can tell you where in Canada it wasn't #1, Toronto. That city has been Y&R turf since the 1970s.

Maybe international money was coming in? I know Another World had a sizeable following in Canada from the 1970s until the end. It was also exported to Australia and Italy but I don't know how popular it was in those countries and how long the runs were.

One year at 12:30 pm and Y&R is killing it. Ryan's Hope is no match and Search for Tomorrow was DOA upon the move to NBC 12:30 pm. As we will see, Y&R will move past One Life to Live in 1984, All My Children in 1986, and General Hospital in 1989.

I would think Capitol was scoring better in the demos than Search for Tomorrow. Capitol served two purposes: CBS wanted something more glamorous to compete with ABC and it was a placeholder/time filler until Bill Bell had a second show ready. April 30, 1982 Y&R David Hasselhoff departure. We're about a year away from the start of supercouple Days and then there will be some signs of life for NBC.
