  1. A look back at previous Y&R anniversary covers (20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, and 40th)
  2. Wow I agree the idea of Nina and Amanda giving Abby a world of pain actually sounds quite good, it’s something I can actually look forward to. I’m curious and intrigued about the Diane/Phyllis/Jeremy stuff given another spoiler is out there about Phyllis. Sounds interesting on paper but we’ll see how this plays out on screen and how long the momentum is maintained.
  3. Not at all, and I agree with you about HK having a limited range. She was okay, nothing too special in her first run. During her second run especially HK always came off as a cold and wet perpetual teenager. Lanier is far more confident, dynamic and multifaceted as she brings a lot of warmth in her romantic and family scenes, but brings out the sharp razor edge when crossed. Both attributes HK never had. In other words it’s nice to see Y&R finally have a younger heroine again with an edge and isn’t like watching paint dry like so many others.
  4. Amazing how hiring a good actress for what had become a dead weight role can completely turn around the character in a positive and more sophisticated direction. AL is always good to watch and she definitely does best when she’s on the warpath. It’s too bad she’s stuck in the supporting role for now but I would say AL is my third favorite actress on the show right after SW and CH. And yes, Phyllis’ most recent descent has actually been a long time coming. We first saw the cracks last summer, now she is completely shattered and unhinged. This is the most interesting Stafford/Phyllis has been in a very, very long time, even if we had those OTT drunk scenes. Like @DRW50 was saying it’s a throwback to her frenetic mess time period as opposed to the goofy comic relief extra Stafford has played since coming back in 2019.
  5. It’s funny isn’t it to look back overtime? Jeff Zucker’s saying Days would be cancelled in 2009 back in 2007, the 2011 reboot disaster, the 2019 suspension/halt in production pending renewal, and last year’s move to Peacock all spelled out imminent doom for the show yet it’s still trucking along. Only wish is for a different HW than RC obviously.
  6. Unlike to today where the most offensive thing about Y&R is sheer boredom, bad budget and lack of interesting storylines outside the Abbot orbit, the show (and the ongoing backstage drama) was sheer insanity to watch and follow…..I very clearly recall Colleen Carlton dying the same day as Guiding Light’s final episode and my mother just shaking her head about the whole thing. CLB choosing this is still strange to me, I would’ve thought he had chosen one of his Emmy winning moments or lonely Michael famously spying in on a joyous Newman Christmas. I did have have go to the depths of the SON board to find that photo (the Daytime Confidential article didn’t do it justice lol) so enjoy this @DRW50@YRfan23@BetterForgotten 😅
  7. 🤣 With apologies to @DRW50 for using this picture again this was pretty the trash dump scene 🤢
  8. LOL!! That was the conclusion of the Sarah Smythe story. And don’t forget about a month later we’d see 70-year old Victor jumping out of a plane over the Amazon as well when trying to prove that Adam was still alive. 🤣🤣🤣
  9. Lord it is. If I recall right these scenes happened in either late 2009. I can’t believe CLB choose this scene lol being in the garbage dump perfectly represented the state of the MAB/Sheffer/Rauch/Hamner show at the time, which was garbage. The Katherine Chancellor I knew would NEVER set foot in a garbage dump!!!
  10. LOL. Let me see if I have this right for Sami: 1996: Quickie marriage to Austin to get a kidnapped Will back. 1997: Attempts to marry Austin but is exposed for lying about Will’s paternity 1998: Attempts to marry Franco, but Franco is exposed for cheating and ends up dead 2002: Attempts to marry Austin, exposed for lying about Lucas hitting Will 2003: Marries Brandon but exposed for changing around paternity results 2005: Attempts to marry Lucas, but then Kate and Eugenia drug Sami and set her up to make it look like she slept with Brandon. Attempts to marry Lucas a second time but is exposed as Stan 2006: Attempts to marry Austin, but is blackmailed by EJ not to and also learns Austin is cheating 2007: Successfully marries Lucas with no drama at the wedding, but then later is forced to divorce him and marry EJ, who is shot at their wedding 2010: Marries EJ but then learns about his involvement in Sydney’s kidnapping and shoots EJ in the head 2011: Marries Rafe with no drama at the wedding 2014: Marries EJ but EJ is arrested at the end of the wedding, also Sami forced Abby to be her maid of honor after exposing Abby and EJ’s affair 2022: Attempts to marry Lucas but then learns Lucas was behind her kidnapping.
  11. Yeah I remember SOD was highly critical of it in their 1986 (or 1987) year end review. Probably the strangest element was Ben/Wes a premonition of Pam’s lol? I’ve spent years avoiding ever watching the dream season as I found it pointless to even rewatch but after recently rewatching it wasn’t that bad….. Sheesh by today’s standards the shocking revelation would have been an alive and well Bobby was wearing a Mark Graison mask all along and forgot to put it back with the explanation he had to fake his death with a wax body to avoid Ewing enemies 🤣
  12. Rewatching the Ben Stivers/Wes Parmalee story… The writers missed an opportunity when they wrapped up the Wes Parmalee storyline. They had Bobby fly in and announce that Wes was a fake, and he was not Jock. They could have siezed the opportunity by having Wes just disappear. Was he a fraud who just gave up? Was he really Jock, and left for find more evidence to prove that he was Jock? Did somebody threaten him into leaving? It could have been more intersting to leave it open like that-- so that the viewers could debate whether he was Jock or not.
  13. @carolineg Lol I had to stop and think about Sami and her pairings….I have to believe Sami is the daytime record holder for having the highest amount of interrupted/non-weddings. Out of the doezens of attempts, I recall only two went without some drama 🤣
  14. As for Ashley I did feel both BE and ED worked well with Brad, but the show wasted it and the. waited too long to seize the opportunity to make it happen and once Brad & Ashley were together we got dumb stuff like an affair with Olivia and the blanket obsession. I mean did Ashley really need to lose another kid? These are pretty good Days choices. EM Brady was best with Nicole IMO, but there was a time when Brady had an annual tradition where it seems his love interest either ended up dead or in the cases like Theresa completely forgotten. Rafe hasn’t been interesting at all since 2013, the last time he was with Sami. I think Kate’s best long term pairing was with Stefano, but her short term pairings with John and EJ were good. Looking back it’s weird that Kate became the town welcome wagon, had a brief triangle with Chelsea over Daniel, slept with Jake etc.
  15. This is embarrassing indeed 🤣🤣🤣
  16. @DRW50 LOL at that final season score. I don’t remember much myself about Trapper John MD except when the show came on it definitely/usually bed time for myself and brothers on a Sunday night. That said I have to imagine the show like so many other holdouts and leftovers from the 70’s came to either their natural or forced conclusions there in 1985-1986. 1985 was when CBS dumped all its holdout sitcoms. Love Boat and Benson ended in ‘86, as did Different Strokes. Trapper John fell out the top 20 after the 1982-83 season and hovered at the bottom of or out of the top #30 for 83-84 and 84-85. Changing times and tastes along with those cast changes probably did it in.
  17. Indeed, and Northen Exposure had just premiered. I just found it interesting CBS scheduled a documentary tv show at 800, a full action/adventure hour drama at 830 of all times, and then the third season of Matt Freezer’s sitcom at 930. It just seems so haphazardly slapped together. Didn’t all three shows have the same exact premise? Dabney is a fine actor and his typical antagonist jerk role was good in Mary Hartman and in movies like 9 to 5, Tootsie, War Games etc. but for an entire sitcom to centered around an irredeemable obnoxious jerk again and again didn’t allow for much growth. Dabney himself started doing more drama again after Madman’s cancellation. Madman from the 2 or 3 eps I watched I recall wasn’t funny at all and in spite of decent ratings on paper the viewership drop between Seinfeld and ER was significant enough (along with the poor critical reviews) that NBC dumped it for Friends in the 8:30 slot instead, and the rest is history.
  18. CBS’s Fall 1990 for Thursday nights was very strange, and except for Knots it flopped horribly: 8:00ET Top Cops #65 8:30ET The Flash (one hour drama based on the DC superhero) #71 9:30ET Doctor Doctor #81 10:00ET Knots Landing #30(tied with Rescue 911)
  19. The Glum Club as @Paul Raven so eloquently put it was strange an oddball set …they couldn’t decide if it was either a hipster nightclub or some cocktail lounge. Then came the day when Daniel and Lily went there and had lunch…? As for this funeral I agree I can see it being some stupid fantasy of Phyllis thinking about her funeral OR Phyllis has to fake her own death temporarily to get away from Jeremy with the excuse “BUT Diane did it!!!”
  20. The Devon/Lily stuff was really some great stuff I actually enjoyed. Same with the Jack and Diane engagement scenes which were surprisingly good. And the Summer/Sally confrontation was good but obviously hampered by their “great feud history”. Seriously this Summer and Sally should be fighting over a man instead of over a pregnancy involving her dad & uncle. The rest is just blah although Phyllis’ downfall is notable. Not to knock looks, but Jason Thompson looks rather unhealthily thin wearing street clothes. Not sure what’s going on there.
  21. I figure that Coco Spectra isn’t coming back for RJ is she lol?
  22. Thank you and agreed! The best part about the reveal of Parker being Phillip’s son was seeing Peggy McCay going above and beyond to play a nasty, bitter, resentful, and vindictive Caroline as she revealed why she switched the test results to Stephanie in a very chilling scene. The fact the show changed that a few years later all to prop up Daniel and manufacture tension for Nicole and Chloe was really really lame. I’m not even sure what the point of Summer was.
  23. Oh yes easily Nick & Phyllis, Billy & Victoria, Cane & Lily, and Kevin & Chloe on Y&R win this thread. So much destruction was wrought…. Other pairings? ATWT: Jack & Katie and Jack & Janet B&B: Thomas & Caroline Days: I feel like there’s a lot here lol, but for right now EJ and Sami. GL: Gus & Harley
  24. 3/6/23 did anyone notice the strange fade to black giggle that Deacon did? LOL. IMG_1706.MOV
  25. I could be easily see a sympathetic Christine suing on Brad’s behalf for joint custody of Colleen and that being irksome to both Paul and Lauren lol. I wasn’t a fan at all of the planned Victor & Christine pairing and was just fine with them as friends, Nikki’s reaction was a bit over the top considering Brad & Nikki’s summer 1995 affair out of town was the first time she left the ranch in like a year 🤣. But I can see Bell trying a Victor/Nikki/Brad/Ashley quad but it would have only worked had Epperson remained in the role of Ashley. Shattuck just clicked at all, and her epic groveling later on when Ashley confessed to Victor that she was Cole’s other woman always cemented the fact that SS was a failure was in the role. When ED left the role in 88, Ashley was the #2 leading lady after Nikki. When BED left in ‘95, Ashley was the #5 leading lady after Nikki, Victoria, Nina, and Dru. When Shattuck left in ‘99, Ashley was at the bottom of the list, with Megan, Tricia, and Grace ranked fall ahead of Ashley. But over time there was a lot of ick factor when it came to Victor for a lot folks. Victor and Jill’s 1992 affair appears to disgusted a lot of folks. And Victor/Christine seems tame compared to Victor/Sharon, Victor/Sabrina and Victor having muses in the forms of Jensen Buchanan and Alicia Coppola under Pratt.
