@Maxim I think B&B wins this thread lol. So many, many characters ie have come and gone with zero impact on the show today. Outside of B&B there was quite a few characters who were major for years but their impact on the show ended with their exits. Some were poised to be major characters but that ended up not being the case at all. Wow, JG has this week also pretty much blown up and upended everything he’s written the past couple years with this most recent implosion of the Abbott family. It’s actually semi-interesting…but also overkill like Sharon’s story is. Not really sure what the end game of Victor’s revenge is though. Someone want to do a wellness check on Griffith? 🤣 This dark drama overload is typically sign all is not well in her own personal life. 😂 And my poor Sally getting shipped into Billy’s orbit. It seems for all intent and purposes that Keesha was an AA character or at least was assumed to be one. Yet we first got Wanda Acuna, a fair skinned Puerto Rican who also played a mix of both Hispanic and well White non-Hispanic roles in other shows followed by olive skinned Italian Jennifer Gatti, who of course was the original Dinah Marler on GL a decade earlier. Very, very jarring; I believe the performances of the cast and superb writing for the story allowed Y&R to get away with it, but still questionable and a bit unsettling to say the least. Maybe the show should’ve clarified Kesha’s heritage better; I know Waiting to Exhale was popular at the time but Y&R wasn’t definitely ready to have Nathan cheat on Olivia with a white woman either. It be a decade before Carmen came to town as well.

Oh I definitely agree about the last episodes of Season 6 being peak Knots. I had liked Baldwin’s performance but never liked Josh as a character. However I did feel terrible for Cathy and Lillimae for having to endure that whole ordeal as it was like a repeat of Chip’s demise. For me the show starts tanking the following season.

Yeah I just recently did my own sit on through of Season 7 and enjoyed it from start to finish, the highlights for me being like you said Joshua’s decline, the strange mystery of Jill and Peter, Empire Valley ecological disaster, and the end of Gary/Abby’s marriage as Gary slowly got entangled with Jill. I actually thought Ben and Cathy made a nice pairing and actually feel like Ben just should have left with Cathy because his Season 8 story and eventual mysterious disappearance was off the rails.

Yep that was Jack Smith. At first it seemed they were going to do a throwback nostalgic coupling as of course both Paul and Christine were taking a break once they finally addressed the rape, we had scenes with Paul & Lauren and then Danny and Christine for like Thanksgiving or Christmas that year, but then of course the show quickly paired Lauren with Michael due to her involvement in Kevin’s story and Danny was destroyed to curry favor to both Paul and Phyllis. Oddly I was fine with it at the time, mainly because of Danny’s massive sanctimonious behavior, and because the seeds had been sown for his downfall back in late 97-98 when Danny became obsessed Christine himself and plotted against Paul.

Ugh that retcon ruined one of Days best really shocking moments as we had Caroline Brady turn nasty wicked, cackling to Stephanie about how she changed the paternity results for Parker, wanted no more Kiriakis‘ family members, and revealed she was bitter that Victor was with Maggie instead of her. I’m surprised Pocket hasn’t ever resurfaced tbh.

Probably was me haha! Back in late November/early December 2003 Paul wanted to know exactly what Danny was actually up to after hearing him exaggerate about a recent show in London. I remember Lynne did a quick Internet search, gasped and discovered Danny was a washed up has been and found an online ad for the show in London was at actually at a seedy nightclub and not some fancy arena like he said. 🤣😂

I can’t get over her pronunciation nor that factoid lol. And no, she didn’t have any communication at all with Daniel for years once Danny took Daniel overseas. Gina couldn’t divulge much either at all. Of course it was a major plot point when Paul and Christine discovered Danny had been exaggerating his European career and also found out that Danny had basically dumped Daniel in boarding school for years and rarely visited, which lead to Christine dumping Danny and him leaving town in shame. Oddly 2004-05 they seemed to be building up to a truce between Phyllis and Christine, first with Christine reluctantly agreeing to represent Phyllis when she was accused of trying to murder Dominic and later when she represented Daniel in the aftermath of Cassie’s death.

Few observations about Phyllis’ special episode lol: —Obviously the maid flashback was from 2009, but I seem to recall the Phyllis disguised as a blonde reporter and as a man was from her involvement with Damon and Dominic from like 2004-05. Interesting choice as that storyline is all but forgotten here in 2024. -It’s easy to forget what a good actress the Stafford use to be in the early 00’s, those flashbacks with PB showed off what she could do, same with that 2003 scene with Danny. -The moment Stafford is paired with Morrow, I noticed in all those flashbacks she is always GIGGLING 😂 Easy to see where the genesis of Giggila Heffa came to be. - “I wAS VERY IMM-MA-TOUR BUT PEOPLE CHANGE I AM MA-TOUR NOW” 😂😂😂😂

Thanks for sharing @Soapsuds Typical show business tomfoolery for sure. It’s too bad the show really underutilized her that last season. I looked it up and yeah she only appeared in 16 out of 29 episodes that season, very sporadically early on. Pat’s death was a needlessly depressing and dreary tale, and the fallout afterward with Frank and Julie’s issues felt somewhat forced although I did like that it was Julie who killed Danny. I think Riley and King tried their best with the material, but it didn’t work for me. Personally Pat’s death left a hole in the Williams family the show just could never fill before Riley’s untimely death. I see she did mention Kasha as the producer who hired her but had the issue with…strange Kasha fired Moody at a time when his own time was winding down. I wonder how much Latham was involved with this too.

Frankly I don’t even know what can be done with Abby anymore. The Naked Heiress had potential but MAB’s bad writing and Rylan being too old just didn’t work. Abby should be better off as a recurring character as a spoiled jet setting heiress traveling around the world, doing PR for both Jabot and Newman, running her own handbag and jewelry line, with Victor and/or Adam coming to her rescue her every now and then from her various outrageous scandals like an affair with Italian Prime Minister or getting detained in North Korea 🤣 16 years when you count the pointless Hayley Erin SOARS 🙈

It’s wild to sit down and think how much insanity has occurred here in 2024. When the year began we were still talking about Eric’s Christmas miracle and his stapler. Then it was all about how bad Thomas was for Hope. Then Luna got a hold of Poppy’s mints and that dragged on. Then out of the blue Sheila attacked Steffy and died. Luckily for us Deacon saw the body had ten toes and Googled “Who is Sugar?” We also had Deacon marry Sheila, Thomas randomly run off with Paris to Paris (I wonder what her sister Zoe had to say…) and the whole Bill has a family with Poppy and Luna. We nearly got HINN Then we had the Il Giradino murders and Luna turning into a psychopath. Now we have this mess with Taylor taking center stage while Hope and Carter are about to get it on.

Nikki MTS has been so poorly styled as of late I expect that to change soon with the latest news. Re: Amy. Do not give JG any ridiculous implausible notions like that 🤢🙈🤣 Abby’s sole purpose these days is simply to remind everyone that she exists. Knowing Abby’s track record she’ll probably forget to show up to her own wedding as she didn’t realize that it was happening that specific time and day.

Not to spoil you on anything yet but this week so far has actually been surprisingly good. The Sharon insanity aside, we’ve have some great moments of Audra and Diane again this week, plus the latest Newman/Jabot feuding drama actually has depth to it and not just another pointless takeover tale. Back to Sharon, Sharon is completely batsh!t bonkers at the moment and not everything is at it seems. Hmm…

I imagine Corday also probably regrets dumping Maxam after his brief stint as Co-EP as that would eventually lead to the rise of Albert Alarr. Beall’s just there as a figurehead at best so Griffith can have someone WGA friendly on his crew 🤣 Basically a rubber stamper of JG’s crude. I should feel a bit bad for Gundaker as really she could be EP while JG could focus more on whatever the heck JG is writing. Then again Gundaker has her own dubious history under three dubious EP’s at ATWT and of course a rough period at AW. Her and Griffith have worked together for years at both ATWT, Hollywood Heights, and the last few years at Y&R I imagine she tows to the party line and probably thinks highly of JG just like she does of Goutman. That’s not promising lol. Reminds me a bit of the Susan Dansby situation. No clue on who Olsen or LeBrun are…line producers without using the wore line? And then we have Josh Griffith himself, who in another thread recently we deduced he’s been talentless hack since day one but was able to disguise it in the early 90’s and after that his other stints have all gone down in flames.

Finally a step in a POSITIVE direction with the leadership of this show, even if it’s just Scott stepping in the role of Senior Producer at least that’s a start. What is Noel Maxam up to these days? He should have been Y&R’s EP for years now IMO ugh instead of over at days. I don’t know who to add for writing this show anymore. My previous choices of a duo between Esser and Boyd but of course Esser retired and Boyd left on his own accord after seeing the writing on the wall.
