In actuality the play level of the rivalry was actually a lot more fair and Victor would actually lose. It started with Jack sleeping with Nikki and Victor in turn having an affair with Ashley. Jack wins by writing Ruthess. Victor wins and Jack loses when Victor does his takeover of Jabot. Jack wins when Victor loses Nikki to him. Victor wins Ashley back. Jack leaves Victor for dead. Jack loses his child. Victor loses all respect of the town and realizes everyone would rather have him stay dead. Victor but comes back and fires Jack but is eventually forced to rehire him back. The rivalry subsided as Victor was with Hope and Jack was reuniting with Luan by that point, I'd say it wasn't until the Alden years that Braeden probably voiced his ego to her since Bell had personally shut down the Braeden/Bergman feud himself. Hence why when I think of the 1994-early 1998 period of Y&R I think Danny, Phyllis, Christine, Paul, Neil, Dru, Malcolm, Olivia, Ryan, Nina, Cole, Victoria, Nick and Sharon as being the leaders of that time period as opposed to the usual stalwarts of Y&R reduced to supporting( Victor, Nikki, Jack, Jill) non-existent(Katherine, Lauren, John) or still leading just stuck with some bad stories/bad recast(Ashley).

It's hard to pick a golden era for Y&R but if I had to pick an absolute golden, diamond or platinum age for Y&R it would definitely be 1986-1993 starting from Lauren being buried alive and Jill's shooting all the way up Victor's coming back from the dead. Those seven years certainly outshined Y&R 1973-1981 with a exceptions and saw Y&R reach unsubstantiated growth and so much memorable storylines are still etched in the minds of Y&R viewers to this day, even amongst with viewers who didn't get a chance to see them til later or just heard/read about them and fell in love with it. Yeah I was watching a 1991 episode where Jill, while gloating about going out on a date with John is seriously worried that Katherine is depressed and fears she might slip back to drinking again because she's been lonely(Rex having a night out on the town with Leanna) while Katherine putting up a nasty front was actually worried that Jill was setting herself up to fail with going too fast with John and didn't want Jill to suffer heartbreak over her fantasies. Granted the exchange wasn't nice at all but it was quite clear they cared about each other. I'd seen a 1984 episode where Brenda Dickson's Jill was absolutely horrified and sad to see Katherine drinking again but as Jill became a total bitch we ended up getting the classic scene of Dickson's Jill just asking as Katherine opened up the door "And what took you so long, polishing off another bottle?"

I think the saddest thing to watch when watching these old vids is probably what a dynamic element the Katherine/Jill rivalry made for the show. What complicated matters even more the two old rivals, even though they were almost always at each other throat's and spewing wonderfully bitchy remarks to each other they actually cared about each other deep down.

Flo being in a Jill promo makes me wonder exactly how close did we ever get to a Ryan/Jill one night stand back then? Certainly Nina and Victoria were at each other's throats while Jill was the quiet snake. I'd rewatched Dec '95 awhile back where for a couple episodes Victoria was yammering about Ryan working "too close" to Jill, questioning Jill's intent and wondering if something was going on between to the two of them. Not to mention I feel it could have been easily intertwined with the buildup to Victor's shooting. The fallout would have been amazing, a missed opportunity perhaps?

I actually enjoyed some of the Carly/Caleb/Julie story that played out before Caleb and Julie were shipped out I was fairly sad when they were. 1995 was a pretty solid year for ATWT and I enjoyed right up until early '96 when the plane crash happened after that it went to hell literally.

Faith Daniels appeared as herself on Murphy Brown a couple of times and then just disappeared from forever after quitting/fired from NBC from TV forever until The Today Show's 50th anniversary in 2012. Best of yet to come was true with Bell, and I loved Jeanne was one selected to give it to him:

Thanks for sharing! the Linda Dano/Bergman scene was pretty funny. I know I'm not nearly as invested to this era of Y&R (late 90's/early 2000's) but I always love how the show still kept it's signature classic touches that made the show stand out, since most soaps at this point seemed to try to appeal to younger teen viewers and Y&R did have one too this time, but it was always the better balanced show out of the other ones... I remember when Linda Dano was hosting the 2006 Emmys red carpet for ABC and just causally asked Edward J. Scott for a job on the red carpet and his and Melody's reactions were "Hey what a great idea!" Too bad nothing came from it. I've always felt the 1998-2000 period was revival for the show after becoming stagnated 1996-1997. Katherine and Jill's renewed rivalry and Jabot going independent of Newman have since set the tone of the show since in a way. Shoot if Tony hadn't been recast we'd probably still have Tony and Megan on the show today.

I had to LOL when the serious music switched to comedic sounding music every time Katherine started to talk about her helicopter ride with Jill, Rex, and Jack each taking turns laughing at Katherine every time she brought it up to sound like she was wronged. A reminder that Mr.s Chancellor/Sterling was the nasty rich old broad in the old money mansion on the hill as a opposed to the saintly benevolent benefactor in the garbage dump as one particular later writer tried to write her as. But more to the point it's why the Katherine/Jill is the best rivalry in all of daytime history second to none because there wasn't ever a black and white even here. You have Katherine clearly seething with rage feeling she's been duped by her greatest enemy once again yet is clearly too meddlesome and self destructive while Jill, who is just as self destructive as Katherine is caught up in deep with her own schemes yet is sympathetic as she's clearly vested her second chance at motherhood especially since her son had "died" a few years before. Billy being Victor's son or someone else's was deemed in improbable(but not impossible) similar to the slight chance of Jack being Nick's father. Bell didn't dally much into who's the daddy stories at all over the years aside from Victoria and later on leaving an air of mystery with Lily's. Paternity changes usually proved initially scandalous but inconsequential in the long term(Lorie, Ashley) while questionable pregnancies ended up as miscarriages(Jill, Traci). Hope you got a chance to see Jess Walton and Kate Linder share their memories during the recent 11,000th episode memories openings, theirs had to be the best ones without a doubt for the meme glimpses of a couple lost/forgotten moments in the annals of Y&R history.

Going back to those 1993 episodes I finally caught up on they made me so sentimental! THANKS for sharing! I found the Katherine/Jill stuff absolutely twisted and hilarious. While I had completely forgot about Jill lying to John about getting an abortion I seem to do recall I think someone, maybe it was Katherine herself put forward the notion that there was a slim chance that Jill was really pregnant with Victor's child and not John's and it had to be disproved. The rest of the stuff was great stuff too. Loved how Ryan and Victoria are all having a nice lovely conversation when interrupted by a phone call from Mitchell Sheman's secretary that their divorce hearing is the NEXT day with Y&R's classic dramatic scores blaring.

I just hate the "take off your glasses and it's sexy time" trope, and she was so cloying. I really wasn't expecting to enjoy her as much as I did as Sharon. Like meek and mild Vicki Harper ordering Carolyn Crawford's murder, I think the idea of Debbie Simon and Ned Simon being happy go lucky but become emotionally adrift was supposed to be surprising yet it was bad That being said, the entire Evan/Rosanna/Hutch/Debbie thing was awful. At least Rosanna vs. Edwina was funny.

Nope it was never mentioned or brought up as far I remembered. By the time Rosanna woke up from her coma she was mainly involved with the whole disaster of Paul, Craig, and Meg while Carly was stuck between dying and not dying while trying to drive a wedge between Jack and Katie(what a horrendous relationship plot that was!). Reminded me of back in 2004 when they brought back Pilar Domingo for no reason and Mike showed Lily a picture of her when she went missing and Lily, her one-time unfortunate sister-in-law was like "Oh Pilar is back in town?" without any question or reference to previous story.

Neither did I, still can't believe how far Case has come an actress from those days of mousy Linc-killing Debbie. Rosanna was god awful but from when I see of Perry's Rosanna from rewatching late '90s clips she worked far much better as a devious, scheming villainess who was in reality worse than Carly by '99 than Lily 2.0 and innocent gambling addict they turned her into. Hence why McClain's version worked so much better.

I honestly can't remember a thing Ryder did, or who he was involved with. I know KS worked after ATWT, but he obviously didn't make an impression on m The sad thing is---that had WILL and Gwen's stories been more balanced, I probably would have been okay with them (minus, of course the rabid Willen fan base, but that's another thing entirely.) I LOVED snarky, angry Will. Gwen should have stayed as completely messed up as she started out as, instead of going from Ryder was involved with Nikki Munson and Dani Andropolous, told Adam he was Hal's son then saved from falling in a well, and then was involved in Dani's pathological lying story. He ended up choosing Nikki and they dated for a while until he went off to LA and slept with another woman and Nikki dumped him. That was about it. I really enjoyed Will, Gwen, Casey, and Maddie in their initial storylines, but all the characters were completely destroyed by the summer of 2006 between bad stories for Will and Gwen to the teen serial killer story which was campy amusement but ruined Maddie. After that the Adam Munson rapist plot occurred and all the magic was over. The Cleo crap was stupid. As for Allison, the show resurrected a long dead triangle between Aaron, Allison, and Chris that was completely unnecessary. The fact they originally had Daniel Cosgrove's Chris lusting after Allison still was how bad Passanate was still trying to coast off of Sheffer.
