Y&R to air classic episodes
LMAO, can you imagine Katherine,Liz Foster and Mary Williams gathering around a table in Mary’s kitchen to discuss and gossip about Ashley Abbott having relations with Victor over a pot of coffee? These ladies never mellowed over time on Y&R or B&B they became more bitter and spiteful! Aside from Liz Foster, it’s funny that then far majority the Y&R characters have never had good mothers to look up to. We saw this from Jennifer Brooks to Joanna Manning to Lillie Belle Barber, Doris Collins, and Lydia Summers. 🙃 😂

OMG! That explains some of B&B’s weird 1988 storylines so much better now as I never thought of that way. Maybe if Vanessa had to deal with Rose DeVille intruding in her life it would have been much clearer. Geez, it’s funny to think while Alice Horton was baking doughnuts, both Bert Bauer and Nancy Hughes serving up a nice cup of hot coffee and Ada passing on her wisdom their peers Vanessa, Katherine, and Alison Bancroft at Y&R were cold and harsh and coming up with really devious wicked schemes.

Y&R: Old Articles
Actually I almost doubt Leanna was ever going to be a serious psycho. Reading old recaps from early Leanna always sounds so ominous but then when I watched a 1987 episode with her in it coming to Jabot posing as “Kelly Carpenter” even though it had a creepy stalker vibe the whole tone was silly, and even got sillier when Jack recognized her from the bar! Then there was this:

Y&R: Old Articles
Y&R has done some awkward montages in the past, but this one struck me as bizarre. @7:36 Malcolm starts taking pictures of a pair of models as Blade watches on with some knock off of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game playing in the background. It’s a scene that feels like it should have been on AW at the time or something like Baywatch. Maybe it would have worked better if there was a subplot like Dru, Sharon or Victoria being one of the models, it comes off as so random and awkward:

In the late ‘90’s an anecdote from an ex-AW viewer on a popular TV discussion website at the time revealed they had a bad encounter with VW. Apparently in the summer of 1994 Wyndham went to an ice cream shop in Rhode Island and created a scene, being quite nasty and arrogant to the poster’s mother, a big AW fan too who owned the shop over the service and who she(VW) was. The poster and their mother vowed to never watch AW again. An interesting anecdote considering I've always thought VW to be a gracious woman off-screen with perhaps a few diva quirks here and there. I doubt VW's losing sleep (or money) over this, but it goes to show how an alleged incident of bad behaviour from a celeb can just live on and on just like Ehlers.

Worse is that she married Victor twice in the same year. First time was for custody fraud/legal purposes and they annulled it shortly after; the second time, who knows what the hell MAB was thinking!!! It was gross! LOL, I know what you mean. And I remember people complaining that Y&R had only rehired Davidson because she was on Days 🙃. LOL while I wish Lester had stayed around, I remember on WOST when Jill’s shooting episode first surfaced, folks were flabbergasted by Dickson’s British accent that they had forgotten.

Agreed. I’d much rather close out the week with the 1998 attic fight and Rex & Katherine singing “I’m Gonna Live til I Die” that anything from MAB & Co.’s reign of terror. The general victory lap she allowed herself to do when her own very limited abilities did not warrant anywhere near such a level of ego.

I saw she included that LM bit in there and I was like “Why is she even botherIng to go there”? I do wonder now that’s been over a decade if she is seeking for closure on her daytime career that she never properly received back then. VW’s comments? Funny that a story of bad/rude behavior at a Rhode Island ice cream shoppe in 1994 followed her years and years.

Fri December 22 1989! I saw the original end credits on the old WOST site with Dan Region giving a lengthy narration at the end. Weird they used the 1993-99 end credits style but used the same Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas jazzy instrumental as used in the original closing when they reaired this.

Ha ha ha! If I was nostalgic see old school names for the 2004 eps writing credits, seeing MAB, Sheffer and Hamner’s names made me shudder. What a mess going although I lot of people still enjoyed the show at this point. After seeing Sursok’s work in Pretty Little Liars I wonder if Latham and MAB just didn’t give her competent material. The Aussie accent didn’t help but she had covered it well on PLL.

Probably Stafford’s spin. Or was asked to resign. The entire thing reeked of JFP getting rid of an actor/actress she didn’t see eye to eye, especially since Stafford was in contract negotiations at the time.

Didn’t they post a pick of them wearing sombreros and drinking coladas together shortly after Stafford was fired? I hope that experience was humbling for Stafford.

Wow, that’s interesting! I wonder anyone ever recognizes her as Harley anymore. Also surprised she goes by Beth Christian given how messy the divorce was.(Sidenote: She had extramarital affairs with both actors who played Mallet. She really live as Harley didn’t she) Glad to see she’s found a good calling, hope she’s found some peace too. LOL she’d probably like to erase. Also remember when she auditioned for the role of Mary Jane/Patty over at Y&R?

Thanks for sharing @DRW50 was glad to see the December 10 1993 pop, I love that era on the show especially with Connor being established as one of Oakdale’s more sophisticated leading ladies. Glynnis was awful as Margo in that ep. Speaking of awful, I remember some of those terribly cheesy early 90s commercials, specifically those Tide ones with the dramatic music and moments LOL. I’d this sums it up well Carl! I liked her as Jessica but her storylines past 1996 with neo Nazis and Kim’s car being blown to smithereens in a car bomb were non-existent. She was pretty much the town lawyer for everyone until Tunie came back and they started writing for Jessica again. You nailed it! That sorry tale was so disregarding to Margo and Jessica; they couldn’t have had single women have the hots for him? It was huge low for Jessica, especially since she was still reeling from Marshall’s “no means yes” rape in 2002. Unfortunately Oakdale turned lily white after that.

Wow I had no idea this 2004 episode contained flashbacks from 1990 of Dru and Mamie, a nice surprise. Thom Bierdz was so handsome in 2004 too.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
From what I recall SSH said in her book that a young blonde ingenue who was unwilling to heed the advice of those older and wiser and who eventually departed for prime time (Charlotte Ross?) and another young female who would sit in the makeup trailer discussing the bar fights she'd been in the night before (no idea who).

ONE rumor has that it was staff reaction to a lukewarm reception of Brown & Kruger in the roles that lead to the Katherine/Jill twist. Not sure how true that was but sheesh Katherine & Jill would probably find peace together gushing over the same grandchild. I do blame Jack Smith all the way though. Y&R was the #1 soap and has an already well established, seasoned, and talented Emmy winning team. Yet Smith became desperate for attention, shocks, ratings grabs, and Emmy grabs, something Y&R never ever did before. Agreed! Katherine was such a nasty old rich lady with nothing but time on her hands lol. Under Latham & MAB they gave her sainthood and even talked up about what a “successful smart businesswoman” she had always been. All I could say was “Oh dear God in heaven...”

I forgot about Best! Jerry Birn, who was Patty Weaver’s husband actually retired not long after this, not sure if that coincided with Lynne moving to be with her mother in Chicago with LBB’s exit or if she was victim of Smith axing’s of veteran supporters at the same time. Always loved Trent Jones; a long time GL script writer, he fit it so naturally at Y&R despite being an outsider out when he joined the crew in 1993.

I also blame this era for giving us that crappy ending to Billy & Mac and for ushering us into those few years in the mid-00’s were everyone started giving us actual incest pairings to root for. I think Jack Smith really had been at B&B too long.

Well Bell also created a character to run over her as well as to call Cricket “The Bug” on screen. 😆 Bell was pretty self aware of fans questioning the nepotism, I suppose this was his way of humoring viewers. Yeesh that sucks. Trying to record them on YouTube TV has been messy sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t, almost like the system wants to fight me.

Didn’t you say they were possibly going by the tape dates? I wonder if that’s the confusion or even planned production/aired dates. I figure the 1987 may even be off from the Iran/Contra hearing pre-emotions a lot of soaps had that summer. BTW, just was looking up that April 14 1998 episode, we get to see Sandra Nelson’s Phyllis in it.

After Shaughnesy left as EP and Jack Smith started throwing his weight and ego around the show went into decline. Too many years at B&B perhaps? Kevin being beaten up in jail and then starting his release/redemption story. Also Gloria(Joan Van Ark) had arrived into town. We also found out Cameron was still alive, working with Grace to get revenge on Sharon. The body in the sewers Nikki & Sharon found that Warton later moved was that of Cassie’s biological father who had just resurfaced the previous year. Jabot was still reeling from Victor’s sabatoge and thus was reliant on bailouts from Diane and well, Victor himself thus why Jack had to leave Jabot. Nikki and Bobby got close while Brittany was running around town as Nikki 2.0 Then Nikki remembered she had killed Bobby’s brother as a child by accident. 😍😍😍😍😍

Lol still a million and full HH point more than it’s closest competitors! Days was in the middle of Melaswen, GL had just brought back Dinah Marler as the Kriezman era kicked off, ATWT was in the middle of the baby Cabot drama, Jack “dying” and Doc Reese sleeping his way through town. That said, the excuse for Katherine drinking again was flimsy at over a change of furniture and curtains if I recall right. And yeah Y&R’s stories weren’t all that hot either; tomorrow we’ll see Cameron Kristen.
