  1. I mean, she couldn’t talk when she stuck her finger in Cynthia’s face on the boat and got karate-kicked in the gut. She’s been a hypocrite for years now.
  2. I had a major crush on the lead singer of this band:
  3. Harrison won Memphis. Jack Sock won Delray when Raonic pulled out with an injury, but I get your point given the topsy-turvy ATP of the moment. Still, I think Tiafoe is improving quickly so there’s a lot he can still achieve. A player like him is good for American tennis, as the Williams sisters can’t hold it down forever. Also:
  4. I chalk Frances’ previous inconsistency up to immaturity and lack of confidence. He had the chance to beat Roger at the USO but just didn’t have the belief even though he had the knife to Fed’s throat. Maybe this victory will give him some belief.
  5. Wow, huge coming out moment for Frances Tiafoe in beating Shapovalov and reaching his first ATP final.
  6. That’s a good piece. I agree that the strength of the show was its ensemble. But it was also how alive and kinetic it felt while allowing us to form deep, strong bonds with individual characters. Very few shows have pulled this off very well either before or since. But that statistic of 5,000 subscribers watching the entire 330 episodes (8 hours a day) in a month is kinda alarming lol.
  7. For me, 1991, 1992, and 1993 were so brilliant with the end of the David Kimble story, the climax of Sheila vs Lauren, the Michael Baldwin sexual harassment story, and Victor being presumed dead leading to his romance with Hope. Those stories were so expertly done. It was riveting television every single day. In ‘94, those days were becoming fewer, and my viewing was becoming slightly more inconsistent. I quit watching for a couple months in 98-99 because I was upset about Michelle Thomas’s death IRL. I took it pretty hard.
  8. 😮 Nice work if you can get it, I suppose. You can win a few GS titles and not make that kind of dough.
  9. What happened with Thiem losing to Verdasco with a second-set bagel in Rio? Was he injured or just tired from his schedule?
  10. Oh god...AMC, OLTL, GH, and ATWT were just tragic around 97-98. I think if Y&R can’t stem the collapse of its demos, come 2020 it’ll make current DAYS look like a John Conboy production.
  11. For me, Y&R started to trail off very slowly around 1994-97, even though there was good-to-great stuff in those years and the ones that followed before 2005. There was the awful Blade stuff, of course, which even as a kid I found horrific. The Nick/Sharon stuff that dominated the show at the time I don’t remember with any great fondness either, even though I liked Sharon. I think all the soaps were suffering during that time, and in hindsight none fully recovered. It just took longer for Y&R to become truly disastrous.
  12. Wow, just saw Tiafoe beat Del Potro last night in Delray. It’ll be a battle of young guns with him vs Hyeon Chung tonight. Plus Shapovalov and Fritz.
  13. An interesting article about what it would take to execute and land a quintuple jump: https://www.inverse.com/article/41406-the-quintuple-is-the-almost-impossible-future-of-figure-skating
  14. Oh totally. She’s not a sympathetic character at all (I only root for her against someone even less sympathetic like Maria), and her story on the face of it was absurd.
  15. Apparently the legal team for the USTA really blew it.
  16. @DaytimeFan- are you a Brit or an Anglophile? I need to give The Crown another try. Many people I respect loved it, but the first few eps left me cold even though I enjoy almost everyone involved with it. (I was a HUGE fan of Matt Smith’s Doctor.) But I’m allergic to British costume dramas, aside from the Gugu Mbatha-Raw movie Belle and a few other exceptions. I also tried to watch The Crown while loopy on meds on a long haul flight to Japan so...
  17. I loved Ellen Bethea and forgot she was on the show as I wasn’t regularly watching at this time. She just sparkled. But yikes this doesn’t seem like a particularly good era.
  18. A good article on the economics of the reboot craze and how Fuller House really started the current trend: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/new-economics-tvs-reboot-craze-1086797 I want to be Sara Gilbert. She just seems to have a really good head on her shoulders.
  19. I honestly thought this would be a three-day story, eclipsed by more Russian intrigue, but they’ve given this thing legs. Good for them.
