  1. Grassley IS a colonic. But seriously. Publishing that letter on the eve of the Big Vote is both a savvy move and an obvious one. It's so calculated, you'd think Kav was running for office.
  2. GOP: "Oh, what does that old coot know anyway? Time to go back to the home, grandpa!"
  3. "I hope everyone can understand that I was there as a son, husband and dad." You were also there as a pitiful drunk, a raving lunatic, a hopeless liar, and an obvious partisan. But, please, your honor, do go on.
  4. Oh, and I have to thank Darn for posting that clip of Bianca's coming out in the AMC thread. In particular, Bianca's talking to Erica about how she got drunk and tried to make out with the captain of the boys' soccer team rather than disappoint her mother for being gay...well, it just sounded SO familiar.
  5. Well, it does except, I've already brought up and refuted that argument above. Again, the GOP doesn't need Kav to overturn that case OR spare any sitting presidents from investigations and/or criminal prosecutions. I believe there are several judges on their list who lean the same way. It's just Kav was probably more candid about his position. Meanwhile... https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/04/technology/facebook-kavanaugh-nomination-kaplan.html You know...as strange as this might sound...I feel like Kav will end up doing more damage to this nation's unity than even Trump.
  6. Earlier today, I saw a meme that asked the question: "Why does the GOP want to die on this hill?" "This hill," of course, meaning Kavanaugh. And, you know, I've wondered that myself. As I've said before, even if Kav were to withdraw, or if the SJC were to reject his nomination, there's still an open SCOTUS seat to be filled. There's no getting around that OR that the Senate and WH will see to it that it's filled by a conservative. Kav's not being there will not change their long game one iota, so why do they hold onto him? I've heard the argument, "Well, they want Kav, because they know the President will be safe from prosecution." But is Kav really the ONLY judge on their short list who stands between Trump and impeachment proceedings? Do they think no other conservative-leaning judges will get in Mueller's way? And it can't be that they're afraid of what their voters will do either, because -- and I could be wrong here -- their voters will forget all about Kav as soon as they see the SJC nominate another, right-leaning judge to fill that vacancy. Even they know that that, and not defending Kav, is what's most important here. So, again, Why. Brett. Kavanaugh.
  7. I can't link anything right now, but it appears that there is a #CancelKavanaugh march to the Supreme Court happening as we speak. It's just awful to think our government is letting us down one more time.
  8. That's the thing: look at the chart that that article provides. Caucasians came out strong for Trump, and I don't think that's going to change. From where I sit, most who voted for Trump seem pretty happy with everything he's done thus far. So it IS up to the WOC -- and really, to POC in general -- to get over the fact that we don't have anymore Obamas right now and vote. Even if it means voting for more white people (who, granted, are more well-intentioned than anyone from the GOP).
  9. Every time I see those words "what goes around comes around," I can't HELP but think of RATT. Brett. Dude. You've just GOT to read more.
  10. Once again, it's up to WOC to save the rest of us from ourselves.
  11. And I expect it'll be something like this:
  12. Those "Christians" need to have a seat. You can't call Trump one of God's anointed and then turn around and ask Kav to withdraw. (I'm not TOO up on the Bible, but I'm pretty sure God warned us about hypocrites.)
  13. No one -- and I mean no one -- sparred better with Erica/SL than Brooke/JB. They were AMC's version of OLTL's Dorian and Viki.
  14. Yet, Kav and his defenders claim all this investigating is unnecessary, because Kav has had to undergo six background checks in the past and not once had he been flagged. And really, the stuff that I've read (and IDK, it's been ten minutes, so there's probably a bunch more that I haven't read) isn't bad in and of itself. But Kav MADE it bad, or worse, when he chose to lie about, mislead everyone and/or cover up everything. If he had just copped to the assaults while admitting everything else was accurate, this might have blown over for him. If F&F actually had the balls to criticize Trump, then yeah, I'd say so. No one has the power to sway Trump's opinion about anyone or anything EXCEPT Faux News...which is just so [!@#$%^&*] sad.
  15. Man, John Goodman looks so very different. I literally gasped when I saw the photos. From reading the story, you could tell how much they still miss Roseanne and wish things hadn't turned out as they did. In a way, my heart breaks for them, because they were still on a high from how successful the first new season had been for them. But they're right: let's give the rest of the cast a chance to continue or finish these characters' stories on their terms. I'm in.
  16. IIRC, when Luna was helping Suede clear his name of some girl's murder, Akins played the girl's father. I can't remember, though, whether he turned out to be the real culprit, or if it was someone else. That's the thing: I don't believe Malone has ever been an "urban" kind of writer. I've read some of his non-OLTL stuff, and to me, he's more of a Flannery O'Connor-type. His work is definitely steeped in Southern literary traditions. That's why I think he would've made a perfect collaborator with Pam Long, who wasn't an altogether good fit for OLTL either.
  17. I just don't think Michael Malone ever belonged on OLTL. I know he's a good writer and all, but tone-wise, it was never a perfect match for me. IMO, he'd have been much better off working on a show like LOVING, or DAYS, or even AMC, although I worry how his peculiar, Southern flourishes would have worked on a show like AMC.
  18. I don't know if he cribbed from 13BS so much as that's his natural style. Even during his original OL stint, he had stories like the one with Claude Akins that had a Southern Gothic feel to them. Too bad Pam Long and Michael Malone have never worked together. They both tend to write big-hearted, romantic stuff, but Long's most positive, upbeat tone might temper some of his darker tendencies.
  19. I'm not sure, but I think she just stopped appearing. I don't recall any big, official farewell scenes.
  20. I'd take him, period. But that's for a different thread.
  21. Maybe he had hoped that Tate would become so popular that they'd change their plans? Plus, he was probably still smarting from how his previous stint at ATWT had turned out.
  22. Khan replied to YRBB's topic in Off Topic Lounge
    Oh, dear. Another Debbie Matenopolous.
  23. Because, although he had played major league baseball, Tate Harmon was, in fact, blind as a [!@#$%^&*] bat. I thought so, too, but I've since read somewhere that can't-see-for-[!@#$%^&*] Tate actually didn't know. I don't recall Rex "outing" Tate, but I do recall they recreated Tom Cruise's infamous jumping-the-couch moment on "Oprah" when Tate talked about how much he loved Adriana. The last two running simultaneously WAS bad. But, you know, I don't think it would've been bad if OLTL had gradually become another EON. Not that this means anything, but Wikipedia says Tate used Adriana as a cover. So, I have no idea. I've read she was a cover, and I've read she wasn't. Guess that's what I get for just following the show on-and-off through SOD and other magazine summaries.
  24. Ah. God. Those years and those stories have become one big blur. It was so ridiculous to believe that a baseball player/underwear model was also involved in a far-right/white supremacist organization. Might as well have been an international spy. And from what I remember, Chris Beetem was actually PISSED about the change in his character.
