  1. I saw Blue Jasmine, Woody Allen's new movie (I'm not a huge fan of Allen, but it was extremely good and Cate is sure to get an Oscar nod.) Anyway, one of my faves, Brynn Thayer, has a somewhat prominent, albeit un-named, role...
  2. Mr Robin Strasser! Did they meet when they were both on soaps? It always amazes me that the soaps didn't seem concerned about hiring actors who had played gay in Boys in the Band--I wouldhave thought back then there would have been more controversy about it (of course Edge of Night hired a bisexual porn star, so... maybe it was more of a big deal in the 80s post AIDS.)
  3. No, you're prob right. I somehow missed the tidbit that that's why Wyatt remains in live-in rehab so long... Still, I guess I got the impression he was meant to be an insaney chronic, every possible substance abuser, and it had been a problem for a while, so I expected some more sign of that even if you're right, he is meant to be in recovering.
  4. Yes, and before that, when he saw Candace and his dad, he was sneaking a huge ass swig of scotch or whiskey or something out of one of those crystal decanters which I found for whatever reason, hysterical. (I dunno--if you're trying to sneak booze around your family, it's probably not the best idea to take big chugs in the living room out of the decanter they keep there. But maybe this is how Perry imagines rich addicts act. Sneaking booze in coffee mugs and pop bottles I only for the have nots...)
  5. No for apparently such a severely troubled addict, he has an awfully fit body, no sign of sweat, etc, etc. I know this is a soap, but... We did see him take a swig of liquor (the family doesn't lock that up?)
  6. There was a UK Who's The Boss and the Mona role was played by !@#$%^&*] Galore?? My mind is blown.
  7. Exactly, this is Perry. If that gets mentioned then that's what it is--there's no subtle secret or twist here. I suppose it at least gives Wyatt a valid excuse for all his addictions (though he seems the least addicted character to me on TV--aside from moaning on and on about hiring an escort.)
  8. I seriously think Tyler Perry spends most of his energy coming up with little lines like this and storing them up to pull out.
  9. I agree with everything said about Charles Dance's performance. I'm a little embarrassed--I only just realized he was one of the stars of the epic 80s miniseries Jewel in the Crown (to be fair, while I loved the series, I watched it back as a teen in the 90s.) Interesting COmic-Con panel, though nothing major. Completely superficially, David Benioff has got to be one of the most attractive TV writers around (and DB Weiss isn;'t half bad, either...) Simply just that headwriters don't tend to be particularly dreamy
  10. I was just going to quote that.... Though you need to take 3 beats between each line--and the creepy reaction shots, into mind while reading it. Agnes Nixon, eat your heart out! The dialogue is SOOO drawn out. You do not have to write a conversation like: "Hello" "Hello there." "I see you are sitting there in the dark." "Yes I am sitting here in the dark." "I see." "Do you?" "I do." ad nauseam. The last scene with Hannah and Candace would be great--except that I felt we were still meant to completely sympathize with Hannah--who admitted she made horrible mistakes and seemed to not accept that her daughter's were even slightly her fault.
  11. Just got caught up with the last episode. I think it helps to watch while I'm still drunk from being out... The dialogue is still, SOOOO drawn out.... "You know I didn't do this." "Yeah, I know." "You do?" "Yeah." It's almost like every line is a part of that improv game where you have to answer with questions (I know those aren't questions, but...) Why did they focus on the rape in the "previously on..." segment and then not show it? But this show seems to drop stories for episodes at a time. Jim is truly stupid. I admit parts of the show--aside from how WTF it is--are compelling--I like Hannah and Sally Spectra under better writing would be great. And so would be a priest molestation story but JESUS CHRIST--the way they're going with this? This could be a great story--and I know Tyler suffered from sexual abuse. I take these storylines personally, so I'm pretty worried where it will go...
  12. Wow! I know Lowry from her "art" bisexual porn film Metzger's Score (a really fun film--seriously.) Randomly found the above article in a May 6 1975 New Yorker Talk of the Town section.
  13. Nah, not for what he was caught with. It would not have led to big jail time.
  14. There's a full week of 1987 episodes on youtube (which I find fascinating--it seems rare to be able to find a full week of full episodes of any show from before the 90s to really get a feel for character balance, etc.) It's very good, but all the stories are extremely islanded from what I can tell.
  15. She may have. She certainly wrote some of DAYS biggest stories. TO my mind I think of her as someone who does camp well--which is why she seems an odd choice for AMC (which of course had camp elements but not in the same way GH or DAYS did.) I liked her era at Sunset Beach--and have always wanted to see some of the soap she co-created, WHere the Heart Is which is described as pretty campy.
  16. The weird thing is they brought in Margaret DePriest (and FMB I believe) to sorta restructure the show--and then moved her to OLTL to, I assume, try to do the same. I have no idea why ABC was so into DePriest.
  17. Exactly. It's just like Maggie Smith in Downton--yes she's a brilliant actress and it's a great role and a highlight of the show--but did she actually do any heavy acting this year for the nomination? I'm not sure. ANd what's with the guest actor noiminations--how is Robert Morse in Mad Men a guest actor?? Sorry, I guess this should be an Emmy thread. I'm glad Game of Thrones is up for best drama--but the Emmys HATE anything that has even a tinge of fantasy or sci fi genre to it--if it hadn't gotten such viewer and media attention this year, they would have ignored it again. (and how the hell is Sarah Paulson a *supporting* actress in American Horror Story)
  18. Yeah, but in all seriousness watching it made me feel more dirty than watching the whole Cassandra sex trafficking storyline on AMC. I'm not sure why--upon thinking it over, I think it's because it seemed so.... exploitive? sleazy? It seemed like a bad porno scenario--and like it was trying to hammer in some message that I didn't get (Amanda is a victim of Candy too, because she told her to play up her sexuality to get a retest--which would NEVER happen in law school anyway--and then because she associates with Candy she's the victim of rape?)
  19. Dan Curtis was probably afraid to do that--as his movies show, he was hardly one for restraint. The show started off as a gothic, Rebecca-esque story and ratings were flat. The more supernatural they had the more the ratings and particularly demos climed (apparently for a while it was the top soap among women 14-34--which seems an odd demo to me, but...)
  20. Absolutely. While not in the same league, the same thing happened to Port Charles--they needed to pull back. I always wonder if Agnes Nixon was a fan==she hired Art Wallace at AMC, Gordon Russell (who I assume came with Sam Hall) for One Life, etc.
  21. Awww--Willie. I hope he gets better.
  22. I like you, Max, so we'll have to agree to disagree--but when I read this I just shake my head. There are far, far more pressing things for politicans to deal with than anything listed there--in fact mostly, I think, those are things politicans have no business being involved in. Although, sure, if some kids wanna pray in school--fine, let them.
  23. Wow, just caught up and wow. That rape stuff was AWFUL and for some reason felt extremely sleazy to me--more so than more extreme rape scenes on other shows--I dunno if it was the awful dialogue that the prof kept repeating over and over which sounded like a bad porno improv, or what, but it made me feel very icky. And her outfit was just ugly not really slutty. And in a sports car how could you not notice two HUGE ASS bags of coke? It's a tiny car and they were in the front! And Hannah not even letting her EVIL daughter step inside the house or use her taxi? We really do seem to havejumped into full on Perry mode...
  24. Have people seen that the original unaired pilot is on youtube?
