  1. Nah, not for what he was caught with. It would not have led to big jail time.
  2. There's a full week of 1987 episodes on youtube (which I find fascinating--it seems rare to be able to find a full week of full episodes of any show from before the 90s to really get a feel for character balance, etc.) It's very good, but all the stories are extremely islanded from what I can tell.
  3. She may have. She certainly wrote some of DAYS biggest stories. TO my mind I think of her as someone who does camp well--which is why she seems an odd choice for AMC (which of course had camp elements but not in the same way GH or DAYS did.) I liked her era at Sunset Beach--and have always wanted to see some of the soap she co-created, WHere the Heart Is which is described as pretty campy.
  4. The weird thing is they brought in Margaret DePriest (and FMB I believe) to sorta restructure the show--and then moved her to OLTL to, I assume, try to do the same. I have no idea why ABC was so into DePriest.
  5. Exactly. It's just like Maggie Smith in Downton--yes she's a brilliant actress and it's a great role and a highlight of the show--but did she actually do any heavy acting this year for the nomination? I'm not sure. ANd what's with the guest actor noiminations--how is Robert Morse in Mad Men a guest actor?? Sorry, I guess this should be an Emmy thread. I'm glad Game of Thrones is up for best drama--but the Emmys HATE anything that has even a tinge of fantasy or sci fi genre to it--if it hadn't gotten such viewer and media attention this year, they would have ignored it again. (and how the hell is Sarah Paulson a *supporting* actress in American Horror Story)
  6. Yeah, but in all seriousness watching it made me feel more dirty than watching the whole Cassandra sex trafficking storyline on AMC. I'm not sure why--upon thinking it over, I think it's because it seemed so.... exploitive? sleazy? It seemed like a bad porno scenario--and like it was trying to hammer in some message that I didn't get (Amanda is a victim of Candy too, because she told her to play up her sexuality to get a retest--which would NEVER happen in law school anyway--and then because she associates with Candy she's the victim of rape?)
  7. Dan Curtis was probably afraid to do that--as his movies show, he was hardly one for restraint. The show started off as a gothic, Rebecca-esque story and ratings were flat. The more supernatural they had the more the ratings and particularly demos climed (apparently for a while it was the top soap among women 14-34--which seems an odd demo to me, but...)
  8. Absolutely. While not in the same league, the same thing happened to Port Charles--they needed to pull back. I always wonder if Agnes Nixon was a fan==she hired Art Wallace at AMC, Gordon Russell (who I assume came with Sam Hall) for One Life, etc.
  9. Awww--Willie. I hope he gets better.
  10. I like you, Max, so we'll have to agree to disagree--but when I read this I just shake my head. There are far, far more pressing things for politicans to deal with than anything listed there--in fact mostly, I think, those are things politicans have no business being involved in. Although, sure, if some kids wanna pray in school--fine, let them.
  11. Wow, just caught up and wow. That rape stuff was AWFUL and for some reason felt extremely sleazy to me--more so than more extreme rape scenes on other shows--I dunno if it was the awful dialogue that the prof kept repeating over and over which sounded like a bad porno improv, or what, but it made me feel very icky. And her outfit was just ugly not really slutty. And in a sports car how could you not notice two HUGE ASS bags of coke? It's a tiny car and they were in the front! And Hannah not even letting her EVIL daughter step inside the house or use her taxi? We really do seem to havejumped into full on Perry mode...
  12. Have people seen that the original unaired pilot is on youtube?
  13. It would have been wise to hire some soap person to at least co-HW or co-EP, I mean even the worst of the the ex-soap people could help with basic things like that--so far every setting looks basically the same... 14. Ha, well that's fair enough. Though I admit if it were daily I'd prob drop it after a while.
  15. People continue to fill midnight theatre showings of Plan 9 From Outer Space too
  16. I feel the same way--I mean obviously it's ridiculous I continue to watch--but I can't stop. Eric, I've been meaning to ask--WTF is your signature GIF.
  17. I wish YOU were writing this show
  18. See that subtext makes complete sense to me, and works more or less. But I honestly didn't read that into it--the acting is too shallow (particularly Wyatt--that tone of voice he uses for nearly all his lines, oy) and the writing is as well. WIth a show like this (or any show) you really shouldn't have to work that hard as a viewer lol.
  19. I thought he was married when they had the affair--he said something about how his wife refused to let him see his son. How massive is their church that Hannah NEVER heard that his wife died? She never saw that his wife stopped going to church? Agreed about the dinner. It looked like she even got all prettied up, lit candles, etc, etc... I know these actors are happyto have a job, and many of them have zero experience it seems--but I'd love to hear what the more established actors think of the writing.... Or how to play it.
  20. Agreed, it's the writing's fault. Considering how slow this show moves, the sudden jumps in temperament are bizarre--like Celine SUDDENLY hating on Hannah. If we had seen her slowly get more jealous, etc, it would make sense. I think Hannah is one of those Perry women who paid for her sins by becoming devout.
  21. When Jeffrey's mom was asking Wyatt's mom if the kids ever said anything about Jeffrey she did say that they grew up close together, or something.
  22. Ha I meant the end of the scene But how long back did he almost blackmail him? What's changed since then? Wyatt's attitude hasn't from what I've seen--except he's gotten even whinier--he was better walking around naked and setting people up--now he just whines about wanting to watch porn and look up escorts.
  23. So far, anyway, I think he does think he's doing a "good" and earnest gay storyline. But there's nothing groundbreaking here (I can't really comment on this, but one tv and movie blog about race said that there's also the cliche of the gay black son being preppy and rich.) It's also all played weird--Jeffrey's mom acts like she's going to have her son killed of he sleeps with a man, but Kathryn and Hannah just laugh about how hysterical it is she doesn't know with comedy music in the background. I agree that they seem to be the most couple-ish of anyone on the show--I suspect Perry would deny that, though.
  24. Loving? Wyatt said he didn't liek people laughing at his friends, Jeffrey hears for the first time ever that they're friends, then he makes a comment about Wyatt caring and Wyatt says he doesn't. The end.
