B&B March 2023 Discussion Thread
@Fevuh B&B's writing is completely illogical. Sheila doing a 180 on $Bill is simply Brad's way of wrapping this story ASAP. This follows the quick change with $Bill being assertive/DD returning to normal speaking voice. Considering Deacon's *grand opening* has been mentioned several times - even though the restaurant is open under Deacon's management - it's probably where $Bill turns on Sheila. Sheila being Mrs. $Bill Spencer trying to make amends while also relishing in the fact that she's back in Bel Air society. $Bill/Sheila blackmailing/manipulating rich folks to get on boards, charities, etc. Stories like that would've been far more interesting to watch than what will probably get - Bill/Katie reunion.

So I'm watching Season 7 - early 1993. I can't help but laugh, while still kinda amazed by KB. Sheila 2023 devouring Deacon with the threat of $Bill sending her to prison Sheila 1993 devouring Eric with the threat of Lauren sending her to prison

BOLD: Casting News
Yeah, I think they'll try to make the hospital a new focus location. Was surprised to see Li in her coat in Finn's office. If so, can they at least bring Bridget back?

B&B February 2023 Discussion Thread
Hope to Liam: 'Mom needs to be with someone she knows' Liam rules out Deacon, Ridge, Bill. Hope wonders who else knows/understands Brooke. Brooke: 'I need to be with someone I know.' B&B never drops accidentally hints. I suppose they really are going to go there with LIam when Hope has a meltdown over Douglas or something weird with Thomas or Hollis goes crazy and Liam saves Brooke, etc. Brooke has climbed the Forrester and Marone trees, I guess the Spencer tree is inevitable.

@Toups Isn't it odd that Deadline, THR, Variety haven't covered this story? It's highly unusual for Deadline to skip out on this type of story considering the amount of content they generate daily, including big stretches to cover '45' for clickbait! LOL It makes me wonder why those outlets are silent. WGA negotiations officially start in 3 weeks (March 20). I wonder if this was a ploy by Sony to hire Fi-Core writers in the event of a strike.

Why does the Paul (Hollis) story give me major stalker vibes? That conversation with Deacon was super creepy - that Paul's been admiring Brooke for years. This seems far more than filler during TK's absence. Who will rescue Brooke? Widge? Liam? Sheila and Deacon?

B&B February 2023 Discussion Thread
@Noel@dragonflies I thought the exact same thing. The last scene Tuesday had Taylor pleading with her kids because their family is on the verge of imploding, the next time we see Taylor, she's more concerned about filling Brooke's *open heart* with pizza sticks. The Brooke/Taylor relationship is so utterly creepy. Way too much, too fast and I simply can't buy it. Sheila/Bill is more believable and that's saying something.

Y&R Fires Entire Breakdown Writing Staff
I'm not defending or accusing anyone because we aren't privy to who ultimately makes these decisions. However, these cuts are happening industrywide. Just yesterday, Deadline reported that SWAT and Blue Bloods renewals weren't announced because CBS has requested major budget cuts. Have y'all seen how many shows have been cancelled on streaming services during the past six months? The fact is that the four soaps produce a total of 1000 episodes annually, which ain't cheap. The threat of the writer's strike is also driving a lot of decisions. The networks renewed most of their shows early so that the writers' rooms could open and crank out enough scripts to cover the start of the next season. This is also the reason why few pilots have been greenlit because they will be crushed when the strike hits. It's not just Y&R.

Y&R Fires Entire Breakdown Writing Staff
Gosh, even The Wrap isn't knowledgeable about daytime: 'Production sources at the other two remaining daytime dramas — ABC’s “General Hospital” and Peacock’s “Days of our Lives” — told TheWrap that their shows still have breakdown writers alongside script writers.'

Y&R February 2023 Discussion Thread
@Faulkner What's crazy is that Y&R updates the opening sequence almost every episode, which is why we see JW, ED, CG, EH featured only the episodes they appear. I suppose spending a few thousand dollars on a photo shoots probably does matter these days. Y&R is an incredibly vet heavy cast. People whined about newbies over vets, but those newbies help make shows profitable. It's not called show *business* for nothing.

So why isn't CH represented in the opening? Sally's s been there for 2+ years now. They have no problem customizing the openings almost daily (e.g., Jill, Mariah, Chloe, Ashley, etc.). Other obvious additions: Diane, Summer and Chance, but nothing is more glaring than Sally, who has been driving stories for a while now.

Steffy's was somehow appointed legal guardian, but not listed in any of the documents. The judge's 'I've got a full docket, bye!' was shockingly poor writing for B&B.

B&B February 2023 Discussion Thread
Despite the out-of-the-blue hearing, the Douglas choosing Steffy is a great twist to the whole Thomas/Hope custody drama. Of course, for the next xxx weeks/months, Hope/Thomas will be pleading their case to Steffy with multiple variations of the same dialogue: Thomas: 'He's my flesh and blood.' 'I'm his father.' 'He's my son.' Hope: "Liam and I have given Douglas a real home.' 'I'm the only mother he's ever known' 'Stability, stability, stability!'

B&B February 2023 Discussion Thread
B&B *logic* 1. Taylor in danger because Sheila is free. Um, actually Taylor is the safest because she's the leverage! 2. Custody hearing the next day, but Hope isn't notified until the night before by the other party. We know they had to rush it because there's literally no other stories beyond Sheila, but you go from Thomas begging for his job and playing nice on Tuesday to handing custody papers Thursday. 3. The Brooke/Taylor stuff is hokey. Was it this bad when Stephanie/Brooke became friends? These women demeaned themselves for 30 years for the same man - fights, schemes, lies, etc. And why would Ridge return to Brooke's house? Shouldn't he be living at Eric's? They were already dropping seeds that it'll be *destiny* as usual once TK returns.

YR actress returns
Yeah! Even if she shows up for short arcs, I'll take it. Hopefully, her new pursuits are going well.

B&B February 2023 Discussion Thread
B&B somehow found gold with Katie/Sheila. As far as Katie's heart, remember Katie's out-of-the-blue check-up with Paris' mother before Christmas? Grace was shocked Carter was there for Katie. As we know, Grace was pushing Paris/Carter big time. Knowing B&B, those supposedly random scenes aren't really random. Grace/Sheila future allies? Might be interesting. Yes, these are strange times with Bill/Sheila, but nothing is odder than Taylor/Brooke. I suppose the latter is easier to accept because it's KA as Taylor so it's feels like a new character. SK makes you want to root for Deacon/Sheila.

B&B January 2023 Discussion Thread
Spot on! Man, Monday's scenes were the same. What I will restate: HT is a master. Taking horrific, wordy, nonsensical dialogue and turning into something *and* with waterworks! I just wish Katie wasn't such a blah character. Imagine what HT could've done on Y&R instead of her 15 years on B&B ...

BOLD promo Katie vs Sheila
It would've worked better if Deacon and Sheila plotted to trick Bill. I was sold on the Deacon/Sheila connection and SK/KB are great scene partners B&B's only other barely stories: - Thomas getting his job back - Almost overnight in B&B time, Paris forgot about Zende and invited Thomas to move in - Brooke/Taylor's weird friendship - Ridge *finding* himself - Carter going shirtless. I can't ever recall the show having so little going on. Take away Sheila/Bill and, you have the above *no* stories and no stories in the pipeline either. At a minimum, start putting some stress on Finn/Steffy after the Bill fling reveal. I don't get how B&B could be this poorly managed.

B&B January 2023 Discussion Thread
@Taoboi Isn't this *magical* unseen connection tactic exactly the same as Eric/Quinn and Quinn/Carter? They've reused the Eric/Quinn dialogue/scenes with everyone in town warning Eric that Quinn was *toxic* except the special word is *dangerous* - I think there was one episode where Steffy used the word *toxic* at least 5 times when talking about Quinn and Grandad. I actually like that B&B sometimes just jumps into a new story to reset the show. However, when Sheila appeared at Deacon's months ago, she did say she access to resources. It seems Brad did have this story brewing at that point. But like you and others have said, why can't they show us in a flashback the beach scene? Unless, of course, that beach scene played out very differently than the way Bill/Shelia have shared.

Y&R January 2023 Discussion Thread
@BoldRestless@Taoboi Mary Williams was a great character. Unlike the sanctimonious hypocrites, Mary was able to dish out her *insights* because she lived a pretty clean life and was shockingly direct as we saw in the scene with Lauren. Mary was great comic relief, but also provided Y&R with a voice for common sense. She also was a fantastic on-screen partner to Paul's women - Lauren, Christine, Cassandra, Isabella. Mary would've diced and sliced GloWorm in fine fashion.

Y&R January 2023 Discussion Thread
It still blows my mind that TB debuted 40 years ago. It's a pity that Lauren isn't the mover and shaker that she should be. No Brad was the only real omission. Paul got more play than I expected with the Mary scene a nice bonus. The Sheila scenes were spot-on. Better Jill/Phyllis scenes exist, but they made the point. SSH was perfect as Joanna. Of course, the funniest part of no Neil F or Brad scenes - they went on to father and son on B&B.

B&B January 2023 Discussion Thread
Brad: Awesome idea on how to get Thomas back in Hope's world: let's throw FC's Black designer *and* the founder of FC under the bus! Pretty soon everyone will forget that he r@ped Caroline, murdered a woman by forcing her off the road, stalked Hope, faked his own death and abused his son, etc. Taylor & Ridge will be so proud of their son for saving HFTF. Even Brooke will concede that Thomas deserves to be back and is best man for her daughter. OC, Liam will be devastated and turn to Brooke, which is the real endgame here. B&B is needlessly going off the rails.
-
B&B January 2023 Discussion Thread
Exactly. No gay couples, latinos, - even working at FC. While Bel Air is probably as white as portrayed, it's disappointing B&B hasn't found a way to tap into LA's rich cultural diversity. The only thing I can think of that it's intentional because of the huge international audience, which may just want to watch rich American white folk.

B&B January 2023 Discussion Thread
At least SC delivered some very GIF-worthy looks and moves this week. B&B actors must be directed to be incredibly stiff, but SC gets some sort of pass. His physical movements - e.g., when Sheila started Liam/Wyatt - make these repetitive heavy drama scenes a little more fun. It's unfortunate that Liam really got boxed into that triangle for years. After learning they had a rich dad, either Liam or Wyatt should've a wild boy sleeping and partying their way through LA.

B&B January 2023 Discussion Thread
@dragonflies I seriously doubt Finn and Steffy would've been in states of undress if Li's arrival had been called in by security. They may have an approved list, but the door would still be locked if they're that afraid of the evil mastermind who has been known to slither past security. It's amusing, that's all. B&B needs to get some B-stories launched ASAP. There's no need to burn through this story so quickly. Balance would actually benefit the show greatly and make this Bill/Sheila stuff (a little) less jarring.
