  1. Star Trek Day 2022. Jackie Cox (from Beyond Salem and from Days) co-hosts the red carpet (but here it's called the "purple carpet") for Star Trek Day, Sept. 8, 2022. Jackie is an big Trek fan. Her co-host is Mary Chieffo who played the very powerful female Klingon L'Rell on Star Trek: Discovery. The entire Star Trek Day 2022 event (more than two hours) was streamed live on Paramount Plus today. You can watch the entire event on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhaHHis27sE Jackie and Mary are on camera for an entire half-hour interviewing people from the various Trek series. They start at 5:58 interviewing Sir Patrick Stewart, and the "purple carpet" continues through 35:08. One of the interviewees on the carpet is a guest at the event - Bill Nye the science guy. At 20:20 they interview Kate Mulgrew! At 1:16:00 Jackie Cox and Mary Chieffo appear on the main stage of the event. They do a short segment honoring the cosplay costumes of a few event attendees.
  2. The queen held on long enough to do the final ceremonial whatever meeting process to get the new Prime Minister instated? (sorry I'm American and I don't know how this works exactly, so forgive my inexact terminology). Just noting that the Queen worked until the end.
  3. Season 7, Episode 1 of Queen Sugar. Kofi Siriboe is amazing. He was always amazing but he's even better now.
  4. In a quarterfinal match that finished at 2:50 a.m., Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner set a record for the latest-ever US Open match. The epic, five-set quarterfinal—which Alcaraz won, 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3—started on Wednesday night and finished in the early hours of Thursday morning in Arthur Ashe Stadium. The match lasted five hours, 15 minutes—the second-longest US Open match ever—and surpassed the previous record for latest finish of 2:26 a.m., set three times, most recently in 2014.
  5. Apparently they were Douglas's paints. I agree that the paint seemed very color-coordinated! The show released a bunch of photos of the paint fight here: https://www.paramountpressexpress.com/cbs-entertainment/shows/the-bold-and-the-beautiful/photos?episode=21710
  6. Here's another old clip (July 25, 2019) of Thomas threatening Douglas: https://www.facebook.com/433905550012381/videos/1528183020945907
  7. Zende Forrester Dominguez https://www.soapcentral.com/bold-and-beautiful/whoswho/zende.php This character should be a dynamic force but is usually relegated to being a background character.
  8. Faith's brief underage drinking story was just a prop for an Adam storyline, where he gives her a transplant. And a hospital scene to facilitate the recast when AAL left to go star in "Chucky".
  9. as @dragonflies said in the thread-opener re: the Deadline article (about the start dates of the fall season) Deadline mentioned this: "There’s also a special crossover episode planned with The Bold and the Beautiful on Sept. 26, which marks the start of B&B‘s 36th season." Okay yes Sept 26 begins B&B's season, But this is the update according to TV Insider: https://www.tvinsider.com/1059567/young-and-the-restless-bold-and-the-beautiful-crossover-melody-thomas-scott-sean-kanan-deacon-nikki/ For Y&R: The crossovers begin on Tuesday, September 20 when Deacon shows up in Genoa City; For B&B, Nikki arrives in Los Angeles "the following week". I assume "The following week" for B&B is a reference to the "Sept 26" referenced in the Deadline article.
  10. The new Y&R promo, released Wed. morning Sept 7, is Nikki planning to visit Deacon (internationally-viewable version follows) Y&R named this promo "Face Off". Internationally-viewable version: ^ This is referencing the crossover piece that airs on Y&R Sept 20. Nikki says "Next week I am going to Los Angeles to see Deacon Sharpe" but we know she doesn't visit him until the week of Sept 26. So I guess this is an advance promo for all the crossovers? I guess there will be another promo later on for the crossover piece that airs on B&B on Sept 26?

  12. Thanks for the heads up, I would not have noticed the "13 Days Left" if you hadn't mentioned it. I had to look closely at the picture you attached to see it. I just checked mine, and then I had to look closely at my screen to verify. I have the paid premium plus version (ad-free premium) and mine also says that Season 1 has 13 days left.

  17. The Blue Wizards came in the Second Age, in one version of what Tolkien himself wrote. https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Wizards#Other_versions_of_the_legendarium Re: the Stranger who arrived with a meteor -- I don't know. So far he acts like Radagast. But he came on a fiery meteor and was fascinated by fireflies, which might have hinted at a connection to Gandalf except that the Elven Ring of Fire had not yet been created. And. as you said, Gandalf and Radagast don't arrive yet. If he ends up with a friend, then I'd guess he's one of the two Blue Wizards. One of the Harfoot characters in these first two episodes came from a village "in the east" which is the direction the Blue Wizards headed. Or maybe one of the Istari secretly (without telling anyone) comes to Middle Earth during the Second Age, then goes back to Valinor later. And then officially comes to Middle Earth in the Third Age. It's not canon in any way, but I suppose Saruman could have been secretly snooping about around the time of the forging of the rings. I read some interviews. The actress who plays the Harfoot girl who finds the Stranger -- she was not told who his character actually is ... until well into filming some episodes. They kept it under wraps. I guess the actor himself and very few others knew who his character really was. The actor says it's interesting reading all the guesses as to who his character really is. But maybe this character is not an Istari at all... Maybe he is some other species of being, that is not in the books. Maybe a different form of a Maia or something.
  18. Some Trump-appointed judges have had common sense and ruled against him in some matters. But this Judge Aileen Cannon is clearly biased. https://www.emptywheel.net/2022/09/06/aileen-cannon-prioritized-donald-trumps-reputation-over-the-lives-of-cia-assets/
  19. Jim Halterman interviews Rutina Wesley, one of the stars of Queen Sugar in advance of the Sept. 6, 2022 premiere of the Seventh and final season of Queen Sugar. https://www.tvinsider.com/1058830/queen-sugar-season-7-nova-calvin-rutina-wesley-greg-vaughn/ Rutina talks about working with Greg Vaughan who played her love interest. “I love working with Greg Vaughn, and I’ll tell you why,” Wesley starts, before adding, “We tested together and ever since the moment I saw him, we were really connected. I remember he walked in the room and I was like, ‘Whoa’ … Greg makes me feel sexy, he makes me feel beautiful. He looks at me in a way that people haven’t looked at me before. So he makes me feel good, and I need that.”
  20. I don't think that would work with bland Mathison playing Drew.
  21. Globaltv in Canada broadcasts Y&R one day ahead of the USA. They always upload the Y&R episodes daily to their website. https://www.globaltv.com/shows/the-young-and-the-restless/ and each episode is posted with its Canadian airdate. Y&R is still being broadcast on television on the Global stations in Canada, and various Canadian viewers have continued to live-tweet what's on their TVs every day, and several Canadian bloggers have continued to upload daily recaps of what they've seen. But Global stopped uploading episodes to their website as of August 31st. Does anyone know why? @Errol ?
  22. I'm a complete Tolkien fan, been reading since I was a girl. I'm an older woman and I'm a feminist. And I watched the first two episodes. I know you said you don't have Amazon, and I understand. Sometimes it's difficult or unaffordable to subscribe to the streaming services. No judgment here from me. It's just that you're criticizing something you said you haven't watched yet. I prefer that things follow the "legendarium" (The Tolkien wiki says the "legendarium" is different from "canon" because Tolkien sometimes wrote differing versions of the same thing so it's hard to say which version he considered to be "canon". The Legendarium takes into consideration all of the things Tolkien himself wrote, including various versions.) I understand that you are critiquing the *idea* of Galadriel as a warrior-- because she doesn't appear that way in Tolkien's writings. But you haven't seen how they are depicting her. Reading recaps isn't the same as experiencing Morfydd Clark's portrayal on the screen. I did watch. I think Morfydd Clark is doing a great job (so far) as Galadriel in the first two episodes. She makes it believable (to me). They way they are doing it, I believe it's plausible that Galadriel was a warrior in the Second Age, and then matured into being only a queen of magic later on. The beginning episodes of this Amazon series are BEFORE the three Eleven Rings are forged. It will be interesting to see if her character changes once she gets her Ring. As a girl and young woman growing up decades ago, I loved Tolkien. I read Tolkien and Lewis so much that I felt a part of those worlds, and sometimes my dreams at night would take place in Narnia or the lands of Tolkien. But I wanted more relatable women characters. I wanted to see female warriors. I loved Eowyn. I know Tolkien was capturing some of the flavor of Norse mythology and the English countryside in his writings -- but I think he would have written women differently if he were alive today. We will never know. Edit to add: Tolkien was writing "Faerie" as he called it ... another Realm. Sure it had the flavor of Norse mythology and the English countryside. And yes he met frequently with Lewis while they were writing, and Lewis said that Numinor is Atlantis (although Lewis misspelled Númenor). But I don't think Tolkien's Faerie is intended to be an exact correspondence to earthly myths and legends -- but instead they are their own Realm. An otherworldly Realm that has parallels but isn't exactly the same. Maybe earthly myths and Tolkien's Faerie are both derived from the same spiritual/philosophical Source that cannot be concretely explained? If Tolkien were still alive and could see more of this Realm - perhaps he'd see more of what women do.
