  2. We didn't talk about "ships" back in those days, but I adored Joe and Viki. Wild to see Viki pregnant with Kevin! I didn't recognize Victor Lord Sr. I see that he's a recast, also. I knew only the first one.
  3. Love seeing Anna and Jim Craig again! But that recast Vince Wolek seemed off to me! Antony Ponzini was the only Vince for me. And yes Larry Wolek was a cutie and a sweet character!
  4. I think the painting in the videos is of Dorian. (This link has a pic supposedly of Eugenia https://abc-daytime.fandom.com/wiki/Eugenia_Lord )
  5. "The 19 Republican officials, co-led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird have demanded Costco notify the states within 30 days whether it will repeal its DEI policies or provide an explanation for maintaining them." via Reuters - full story at this archived link: https://archive.is/xbV83 -------------------------------- They really aren't rational if they think they can tell a private corporation to stop DEI.
  6. Tabyana doesn't need NAC. She is her own person. She had a party with actual friends. NAC was at some trendy fashion event in Paris posing for photos, trying to be cool.
  7. Okay so ... to sum it up: Trump FROZE all federal spending until each agency can prove to him that they will follow his agenda. They have to fill out a review form to state their intentions and he will read it and decide afterwards whether to give them money or not. The funding would be frozen ("paused") for a week, and agencies have one week to prove that they follow his line of idiocy. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/federal-judge-halts-trump-freeze-on-federal-grants-and-loans-for-a-week The full scope of the administration’s review was spelled out in a 51-page spreadsheet sent to federal agencies and viewed by The Associated Press. Each line was a different government initiative, from pool safety to tribal workforce development to special education. Officials were directed to answer a series of yes or no questions for every item on the list, including “does this program promote gender ideology?” or “does this program promote or support in any way abortion?” Responses are due by Feb. 7. Trillions of dollars are potentially under review. Grants that have been awarded but not spent are also supposed to be halted if they might violate one of Trump’s executive orders. “The use of Federal resources to advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies is a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve,” wrote Matthew Vaeth, the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, in a memo distributed Monday. Vaeth wrote that “each agency must complete a comprehensive analysis of all of their Federal financial assistance programs to identify programs, projects, and activities that may be implicated by any of the President’s executive orders.” He also wrote that the pause should be implemented “to the extent permissible under applicable law.” The pause on grants and loans was scheduled to take effect at 5 p.m. ET, just one day after agencies were informed of the decision. _________________ Then the update from less than an hour ago: A federal judge (U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan) on Tuesday January 28 temporarily blocked a push from President Donald Trump to pause federal funding while his administration conducts an across-the-board ideological review to uproot progressive initiatives. In other words, Judge AliKhan blocked the one-week freeze (aka "pause"). The order from U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan came minutes before the funding freeze was scheduled to go into effect. AliKhan, who was appointed by President Joe Biden, said in halting the freeze, “It seems like the federal government currently doesn’t actually know the full extent of the programs that are going to be subject to the pause.”
  8. One link is what @Taoboi posted above about university loans frozen. Here's another: Medicaid portals nationwide are down https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/28/trump-federal-funding-freeze-medicaid Also funding frozen for Headstart and community health programs! https://www.cbsnews.com/news/medicaid-head-start-health-centers-trump-funding-freeze/ From the above CBS article, questions about whether or not there'd be funding for Meals-on-Wheels or school lunch programs. (not known yet). This MORNING (January 28) Attorney General Letitia James said Head Start funding was frozen in Michigan, access to child development block grants was cut off in Maryland and at least 20 states have been unable to access Medicaid reimbursement systems, including New York. UPDATE 4:00pm EST, January 28 from Headstart itself: Its funds are NOT frozen: https://nhsa.org/press_release/federal-grant-freeze-puts-head-start-children-and-families-at-risk-nationwide/ Update again: 6:07pm EST, January 28, A federal judge, Loren L. AliKhan, has temporarily stayed the freeze (stopped the freezing?) https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-pause-federal-grants-aid-f9948b9996c0ca971f0065fac85737ce
  9. Thanks, @Vee Nancy Pinkerton was my Dorian! I watched OLTL mostly up until late August 1975, when I left home for college. I have no memory of that Vance Jeffries character. None whatsoever. So I was a freshman in college when those Nov. 1975 scenes aired. The only thing I remember of Autumn 1975 on television was watching the debut of Saturday Night Live on the dormitory common room TV.
  10. ^ I assume you meant "Does Kristen think her mother is dead?" (not Ava). Yes it was established decades ago that Rachel Blake died in the tunnels in Paris.
  11. I don't have time to post the link because I'm on my way to an appointment. To sum it up: Funding has been FROZEN for federal programs and grants. A lot of these things affect CHILDREN. As has been said: They may be pro-birth, but they repeatedly demonstrate they are not pro-life.
  12. But they actually believe that diversity destroys society. They're not rational. I mean obviously, diversity strengthens society, but they think the opposite.

  14. Members of the Navajo Nation (tribe) taken in immigration raids https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona/2025/01/24/navajo-nation-leaders-address-reports-of-ice-detaining-tribal-citizens/77911978007/ Acting Navajo Nation Deputy Attorney General Kris Beecher recommended that tribal members carry their Certificate of Indian Blood along with other forms of identification. State Sen. Theresa Hatathlie informed the council about a Navajo citizen who was detained for nine hours, underscoring the urgent need for emergency protocols. She emphasized that many tribal members face challenges with documentation. She said despite having Certificates of Indian Blood and state-issued IDs, several individuals have been detained or questioned by ICE agents who fail to recognize these documents as valid proof of citizenship, according to the Navajo Nation Council's news release. "I agree with having your CIB on your phone. That's not a bad idea. These are good things to have with you," he [Beecher] said. The Navajo identification card was launched under the leadership of the late former Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly, who collaborated with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Of the approximately 400,000 enrolled Navajo members, only 8,000 tribal identification cards have been issued since their introduction in 2012. Concerns for unsheltered tribal members in urban areas In a statement from Navajo President Buu Nygren on Wednesday night, he said his office had fielded concerns and unconfirmed reports that urban Diné relatives were being questioned and detained by immigration officials. (Diné is the Navajo name for themselves) For their safety, he urged Navajo tribal members to be aware of their surroundings and carry valid forms of identification, such as a Certificate of Indian Birth or state-issued driver’s license.
  15. Trump seizes wartime powers in battle for more fossil fuels via Bloomberg's "investing/commodities" section: https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/investing/commodities/2025/01/26/trump-seizes-wartime-powers-in-battle-for-more-fossil-fuels/ archived (non paywall) copy of same Bloomberg article via Hartford Courant https://archive.is/ (This article was written from a business point of view, -- not written from an environmental point of view). Trump is using some obscure wartime powers clauses, in order to force immediate permits for drilling for oil and natural gas, with a big F* you to mother nature. Most of the Bloomberg article quotes industry execs who think this is great. However the Bloomberg article does have this one quote: “They are definitely reaching deep to utilize pretty specific exceptions,” said Noah Greenwald, endangered species program director at the Center for Biological Diversity. “This executive order is a death warrant for polar bears, lesser prairie chickens, whooping cranes and so many more species on the brink of extinction.”| About Mr. Greenwald: https://www.biologicaldiversity.org/about/staff/

  18. I agree that Lower Decks was great and Section 31 was ... a choice? Section 31 dialogue writing made Bold&Beautiful look intelligent. Michelle Yeoh elevates everything she does, but wow this was a pretty bad script. I am missing SNW, I hope they soon announce the first airdate of the coming season.
  19. Statement from United Farm Workers "We are in scary times with immigration sweeps, executive orders & farmworkers laboring in thick wildfire smoke. We're scrambling to do everything at once & our resources are stretched thin." Full statement at this link: https://act.seiu.org/a/scarytimes (They appeal for donations; but even if you are disinterested in donating, I found it interesting to read all the things they are dealing with right now)

  21. Oh well here, I found something from a legal scholar regarding Trump's order and the Fourteenth Amendment the US Constitution passed in 1868. The professor mentions that this came from the 1860s when the Republicans were the party of Lincoln, and supported the end of slavery. (how that party has changed). by Evan Bernick ‪@evanbernick.bsky.social‬ Associate Prof at Northern Illinois University College of Law. Constitutional law, criminal law, abolition ‪Evan Bernick bluesky from January 21 https://bsky.app/profile/evanbernick.bsky.social/post/3lgb35gaw322l The same professor has lots of details on his bluesky about the Constitution and Native American rights and citizenship. Too much for me to quote here.
