Kim's autobiography is pretty candid, if sanitized in a few places. I recommend it. The thing about GL is creatively it felt dead to me long before it was cancelled. The budget was basically nil and they were shooting outside in horrible conditions. Search the word "Peapack" on this forum and you'll learn plenty. It was a mercy killing to me. And it is sad, because yes, it was a legendary television institution and it didn't have to be that way. But no one in television had regarded it as anything but a forgotten relic for many years. You could revive GL well, much as All My Children got revived on Hulu, with a fairly similar return to its classic tone. It probably will never happen, but it's a shame what became of it. I felt it was almost completely irrelevant by the time it died, and that to me was very sad.- Star Trek returns with streaming series

I haven't been a huge fan of most SNL political sketches in many years for reasons I know Carl shares and can enumerate for all of us (with a few exceptions, like the Matt Damon Kavanaugh sketch which largely just traded on actual quotes and his performance), but Steve Martin and co. do a solid job with this: Not sure they needed yet another Kate McKinnon impression, hilarious though she is. I honestly haven't seen much of Wilbur Ross so on its face it just seemed like another excuse for her to be there- The Politics Thread

Singer is persona non grata outside Millennium, which is a junk company. I don't think he'll come back from this in larger circles. But we'll see. I frankly doubt Red Sonja will get made. I think Michael Jackson is one of the greatest musicians and entertainers in our history. His impact is incalculable and his work will live forever, and should. I think his life is a very tragic story, and that what became of him started when he was a very young victim. I also have never wavered that he raped children and was a sexual predator. And I am not exactly looking forward to the high-minded thinkpieces that try to pretend there is any difference between him and R. Kelly.- The Politics Thread

There is a very good profile of McConnell in the NYT this week. Basically, he still seems like a total enigma and mostly opaque personality - it seems as though the only thing he cares about is the utilization and consolidation of power, and most of all that history will view him devoid of context and entirely in terms of his skill and focus. (The one note that seems to get slightly under his skin is the idea that Trump would get credit for his achievements.) I don't know if that's a sociopath, but it's definitely something bizarre.- The Politics Thread

On a side note while we wait for Trump to stop dragging his feet and come out and take his medicine (or declare martial law instead -who knows?): Pelosi knows exactly how to work him psychologically. She knows he has deep psychosexual issues with women as well as an obsessive need for performative behavior mixed with a pathological avoidance of direct confrontation. She did not posture like this in the 2000s when the Democrats retook Congress under Bush. She is adapting to his framework to break him, and neither he nor his people will forget listening to her emasculate him every time a microphone is in front of her. That leaves a psychic toll for his followers. Eventually they get tired of feeling bad/cuckolded. They will go where power is, and power is leaving Trump.- The Politics Thread

FYI: Against frankly long odds, I am surprised to report Season 2 of Discovery is very good so far. Thoughtful, fun, and taking its time to think and build character, including the much-neglected bridge crew from last year. I haven't seen a Star Trek episode as well-paced as this week's since the occasional good episode of Voyager. Recommended - try CBS All Access via Amazon Prime, the stream is better.Important Information
