  1. Toldja: This isn't going to keep the GOP in line. It wasn't good and they're already defecting. The media is mostly unimpressed. From the above: I knew he'd do this, but I didn't know he'd do it preemptively. The next 48 hour will be full of public and private disasters because this went bad. He's so predictable.
  2. As long as she keeps learning I'll give her another chance. She did well on 60 Minutes for the most part (and won over my mother, who had her fill of the radical fringe when she was one of them in '68). Meanwhile, Bernie's ego-grabbing speech focused largely on (wait for it) economic inequality.
  3. AOC is on MSNBC doing what she's supposed to do: Be forceful for the Democrats in front of a camera.
  4. It was a weak nothingburger, not the swing for the fences Kushner apparently hoped for. He will blame his staff for "making him do that" and making him look bad, as he always does. Pelosi and Schumer's response is good. I kind of wish someone else was giving it, but there's only so many ways you can do that in this situation.
  5. Predictably, a teleprompter speech is not going well for Trump. I don't know why anyone there thought this would be enough for him to turn it around.
  6. The exasperating Brian Stelter fumbles around talking to the New Yorker about why the networks are airing Trump vs. Obama. Excuses include: "It was a big night in TV in 2014" and "I dunno, man!"
  7. There will be an immediate Democratic response, but I don't know yet who is delivering it.
  8. Watching Brian Stelter squirm to justify this is at least mildly entertaining. Backed into a corner on Twitter he just mumbled something about "the news climate" being different today.
  9. Don't do it.
  10. Cross-posted but still, wow.
  11. Amazing.
  12. Not really, but much of 5 is a real mess.
  13. Her mistakes were more than verbal, like following Bernie's lead on stuff like Sharice Davids. But she's come a bit further since then and I was pleased she backed off blowing smoke against Pelosi. As I've said she can either rise high or burn herself out, but she has a huge spotlight now and a lot of opportunity. She is also the right's latest female/non-white boogeyman.
  14. I agree it wasn't the answer I'd give. But she has a point about the double standard, which people need to hear. And it wasn't a "Bernie Sanders NY Post interview" moment for me, which is what I feared.
  15. I think she's come a long way very quickly. I hope she keeps improving and makes less stupid mistakes. Bernie is fading fast and she doesn't need to go with him.
  16. First Season 5, now this!
  17. Tamzin Outhwaite and Sean Mahon (Ray) did a great job in those episodes (especially Mahon), even if I never liked Mel much and still don't understand why she returned beyond perhaps giving Jack a 'name' love interest. I have no idea how big a career Outhwaite has ended up having or not having post-EE. Her being clearly more weathered now - physically and mentally - suits the character. I actually just rewatched the full episode where Steve dies from 2002, when he calls Mel on her moral hypocrisy, saying she is just like him and that's why they love each other. I think that material was compelling and holds true to the Mel of today's storyline, who clearly never walked away from a shady life (she keeps Steve's name, married a bent cop, and didn't she come back on as an associate of Irish gangsters?). The cute but fairly dim Hunter has been let go, which is no loss. The show is still very well produced. They almost managed to walk back the Kat/Alfie stuff; I don't care about the pairing so much as I just think both actors did great work the last few days (I haven't seen yesterday), and I have no clue who the hell else they could pair Kat with going forward. Honey Mitchell's new beau the dentist is clearly meant to be abusive and/or controlling, another cheery 2019 plot waiting to happen. I wish I couldn't predict this stuff. It's just tiresome. WEHT Bex? Is she still on the show? Where is Sharon? Didn't she develop some sort of instant addiction? I like the girl playing Bernadette but I can't begin to tell you how much I am not here for another gay character pining for a selfish str8 friend story, especially on the UK soaps. That to me is DOA before it begins. Is Tiffany Ricky and Bianca's? I just don't care about these teen stories they're pushing; this thing with the gangster girl or whatever means nothing to me.
