  1. Reform is coming, one way or another. They may not kill the filibuster outright for now but they're clearly planning to make changes. That's why McConnell and every outlet that either leans Republican or depends heavily on McConnell and co. quotes for access is trying to float Dems in disarray stories when lately, Dems have been pretty arrayed. You will see them float a bill or two in order to let it fail due to GOP obstruction so guys like Manchin, etc. have their figleaf to say 'we tried.' That is going to happen and it has been talked about before, more than once, by smart observers. But that's manufactured drama. Change is coming, and Politico writing GOP access-dependent stories designed to concern troll Dems and discourage them do not fool me.
  2. Politico is trying hard to spook Dems out of doing anything about Daddy Mitch's filibuster by highlighting all the reluctant Dems. Like Jane, I don't think it'll make much difference.
  3. She can't stand in the way.
  4. This will get walked back and changed by the major press re: the shootings in Atlanta, but it's worth noting in the heat of the moment that too many white editors and segment producers always defer to this language for white mass shooters initially:
  5. Sure sounds like she's off to the rubber room!
  6. LOL:
  7. Oh lord. Even for Raven that is a reach. It's entirely possible these things could be connected but as it is we know absolutely nothing about this actor's current condition or the IRL reasons behind her exit. It's one thing to speculate, but it's irresponsible for people to assume they know. Next they'll be saying they could tell by the look in Suzanne Rogers' eye to Camera 3 that her body was failing her.
  8. In your heart you know I'm right!
  9. Don't joke; CBS will have Ellen Wheeler, Crystal Chappell, Jessica Leccia and Frank Dicopoulos on location behind a Stuckey's in Duluth tomorrow!
  10. I think most of that crew are just what the Russians call useful idiots - blinkered far leftists so obsessed with their ideology and their own pride who think that literally anything the rest of the world does is fine as long as it's not America and (in their view) we probably did it somewhere else, so we deserve it. Greenwald and Taibbi, who knows. Bingo bango bongo:
  11. Half this board dogged Godfrey from day one! But I do like her and think she's been poorly served and underrated. She'd make a good NuLulu on GH (don't dye her hair, Frank!).
  12. Willis is not the type to pile on Obama, he's generally a big fan. If he was a dead ender I wouldn't read him. I do think mistakes were made in that period, some of them unforced. I'm glad they're not being repeated, but the fact is on some key policy moves and political choices Biden has advantages Obama never would by virtue of the color of his skin.
  13. Agreed. I do think the Obama administration dropped the ball on not pushing hard enough on some things in '09/10, but a lot of the innate opposition to not doing more was because of racist backlash Obama couldn't help or change. Willis is generally a big fan of Obama and I don't agree with everything he says, but I do think it's a nuanced issue.
  14. This is going to be the new caravan thing the media tries hard to make an issue on behalf of the GOP, and IMHO just like the caravan it will fail to play in the public and vanish soon. This is why we have to be conscientious - the media and political Twitter love to run hot with a story for a few days or hours at a time, try to float it as 'something big', then when some of those stories fail to catch on they forget they existed or their role in attempting to mainstream it. The media currently has no handholds to grasp at a proper crisis for the Biden administration, so this is the best they have - it also allows them to try to launder the bigoted GOP talking points as being 'concerned for immigrants', all in the hopes of returning to their preferred normal 'both sides' status quo pre-Trump where the Republicans are supposedly good faith actors. If they make it a 'sober' topic like 'the border crisis' they feel they can give Republicans room to come on TV and make false equivalencies and talk tough on their standard old hat issues. But it's just not going to play, IMO. No one is going to forget what Trump did to those people any time soon.
  15. ATWT looked pretty cheap by the end. It didn't get to GL levels but there were a lot of shitty, poorly-lit and recorded remotes in ugly locations - more and more each time I tuned in. The trend was heading towards Wheelertown. I will never forget that nonsense with Dusty and Billy Warlock fighting in like, the parking lot by the dumpster with the tinny noise of a track from the Inception score on repeat in the background. Embarrassing.
  16. My favorite Yaphet Kotto story is about how he showed up to the set on the day they were filming his death in Alien convinced he could talk his way out of it. "I'm gonna beat this guy!" Patrick Stewart was brilliant as Captain Picard, but I've never gotten over the fact that Kotto was seriously considered for the role on Star Trek. That would've been amazing.
