  1. I think Biden is being very vocal tbh - saying all the right things. A lot of populist lines. I think he acts like they have the majority. Schumer could always be doing more. But do I think they're going to do nothing or that we're screwed, no. That depends on a lot of things. It's easy to spend all one's time on doomspiraling Political Twitter and think it's the real world, and generally it is not - it is always trafficking in hyperbole and high emotions and high-voltage statements. This is definitely an urgent moment and a lot needs to be done, that much is clear. But do I think Manchin and Sinema won't ever budge and hold all the power and we're fùcked: No. Meanwhile, a thread:
  2. Oh, I think it's very worth talking about Barrowman.
  3. I think it was the entire institutional environment - IIRC the claim was he had a huge problem with the director of Aliens of London/World War III, Keith Boak (who did not return AFAIK), but that he also felt Phil Collinson, RTD, etc. had failed to back him up or support him on the issue.
  4. I don't know why people would say skip Season 1. It was certainly a critical and commercial hit out of the gate, IIRC.
  5. Yes, because Pratt's Y&R was unwatchable. Again: We know you like the Adam character. Him being featured does not make the show good.
  6. The show is bad. Just because it features your favorite character in your near-decade of watching doesn't mean it's not bad.
  7. Started digging into the 1990 episodes posted recently. WEHT Eric Kane? It's odd seeing him as a talk-to in his daughter's life.
  8. So cute to see Debbi and Darnell.
  9. Let them fight!
  10. McConnell has fùcked up. He's given the Beltway nowhere to go giving him cover and trying to push 'bipartisanship' on Biden.
  11. More journalism astroturfing to try to create an issue:
  12. Facebook's (imaginary) Oversight Committee has upheld its ban of Trump, but punted it another six months down the road for future 'review.' I would not assume he will be allowed back in six months though, as many prognosticators were positive he would be today and he wasn't. Meanwhile: IMO Swan and many others like him who rely on Trump for major career boosts are wrong - Trump won't run. I've said this for months now: He's lazy, profoundly disinterested in doing the work and his first run was a PR stunt that got out of control. He's barely doing a thing today. Remember all those claims that 'Trump will be a major GOP mover and shaker for years to come' in November? All pushed by journalists like Haberman on the Trump beat hoping to keep him relevant? What is he doing in FL but blogging and crashing weddings? Nothing. People are coming to him, he's not actively doing anything himself. He'll talk about running, he'll pocket money specifically for a run, but he will not seriously run. I'll bet on it.
  13. Stelter is once again getting ratioed. The push by seemingly moderate or well-meaning and almost entirely white journalists to create a 'liberals are too cautious about/addicted to the pandemic' is an attempt to create a new #BothSides framework on this topic. The Beltway and cable media are deeply uncomfortable with not having an equal sides synergy to apply to the current status quo with the GOP and the right hosting antivaxxers and unsafe people in the pandemic, so they are pushing the unsupportable idea that on the other side, the left and Democrats are 'too cautious' and 'want to keep it going'. It's also very much about privileged, well-heeled pundits who are either already vaxxed or in blue states or both wanting to move on and go back to brunch already, and are impatient with the rest of us.
  14. This is an admittedly weak pull by me, but I'm excited: The successful new Kickstarter for Season 13 of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (now funded for 9 episodes, almost up to 12) has begun announcing bad movie titles for its upcoming season. One of the unfortunate films featured will be 1993's Robot Wars, featuring Lisa Rinna (Billie, DAYS/Taylor, MP) and Barbara Crampton (Leanna, Y&R/Mindy, GL). Stay tuned!
