Y&R April 2023 Discussion Thread
Just a way to pass time, like everything else, but I'm enjoying the performances at least (except for MS herself lol). I do look forward to her kids finding out it was faked. Agree that everyone will forget soon enough. It couldn't have been more obvious... from "hey kids, in case anything happens to me, ahem ahem, I am so proud of you and love you so much!" to Jeremy insisting he had to be at the hospital but somehow never leaving, as if he knew she wouldn't make it... to Phyllis yelling "poison poison" to the EMT.

@soapfan770 good job! Some additional possibilities (not to take away from yours at all!). I'm not even going to comment on 80s and 90s cause I feel like you can't go wrong in picking anything from then. 2000 - Mac crowned prom queen 2003 - Victor confronting his father (I think this one or Victor's mother from 1984 definitely deserve to be there!) or Kevin burning down Gina's (the only remaining original set as it was once Pierre's) 2009 - Kay proving that she is Katherine Chancellor 2010 - Nina reuniting with her son just as Chance is presumed dead 2013 - Lauren's affair and almost getting divorced from Michael 2018 - JT abusing Victoria

Hah. That was when they thought Summer might be Jack's after all and Phyllis wanted to break up Summer and Kyle because that would make them siblings.

Michael is actually going to have a storyline? Or is the message going to be about Phyllis?

YR return
I am surprised considering he didn't go to the 50th anniversary party (though neither did some of the current cast!) or the bicentennial gala. So I guess it was just a scheduling issue keeping him away. That's great.

@Joseph have you seen this website? It has a pretty good summary for each year until 2005 https://jacksondynasty.net/bold/ I was thinking of doing something like this but don't have the time and the patience. Doing it by year is tough. I would have a hard time coming up with best moments for the recent years and there are so many in other years. For 1980 maybe something about the cult, but there's not much great footage as you said. Then for 1981 the standout should be Vanessa's fall off the balcony, but there's also other important things like Nikki and Victor meeting and even the London Gala. So maybe it makes sense for you to not do it year by year, but try to do about 10 per decade or 5 for each 5 years. For 1983 you have Patty shooting Jack, Dina's arrival, Jill sleeping with Jack... Go through that website and maybe I can help if you still need suggestions.

The Young and the Restless: March 2023 Discussion Thread
The way they love to use "mental health" as a buzzword on this show, how is nobody noticing that Phyllis is going through a major mental health crisis? I like how Jeremy and Phyllis seem to think if they steal the ring, Diane and Jack aren't engaged anymore.

Y&R: spoiler about absent character
It is a shame that Doug's bitterness has kept him out of all the 50th Anniversary festivities. He always seemed like one of the go to guys for Y&R when they did promotion. He was the fun outgoing guy on all the talk shows and as the longest running cast member he must have loads of great stories. And this bitterness apparently keeps him not only out of the official activities but also all the informal Zoom streams where I'm sure he could add a lot. I wouldn't mind seeing him be interviewed on Locher or Fairman's channel, but they seem to be just as guarded as the official soap press about not discussing anything controversial. I do understand his position to an extent. Imagine if you had a full-time job, say a teacher, for 40 years, and your performance was generally well-regarded but the powers that be decided your salary was too high so you will no longer be a full-time employee, but they'll call you in whenever they feel like it and pay you per diem. A lot of regular people would be offended and just retire (if they could afford it). The shows know that they can get away with it because these aging actors don't have a lot of other choices so they can essentially get them on anytime and not have to pay them to be on contract. As a fan I prefer if they can work it out and keep the characters on the show in some capacity and we all understand the budget is not what it once was, but if some actors feel like they were essentially fired when they were taken off contract, that's not unreasonable. GH manages to find story for Mac Scorpio whom I see as Paul's counterpart on that show and is roughly the same age but hasn't been on as long. But then GH manages to find story for a lot of vets and actually builds up the younger set too. Y&R can't find story for the elder Nikki and Victor, can't find story for middle-aged Sharon, can't find story for young adults Noah and Allie, can't find story for teenage Faith and Moses... What I think it boils down to is DD is pissed that he's put in the tier with Le Blanc, Maitland etc who were put on recurring and not the top tier with Braeden, Scott, and Bergman who will always be on contract even when they have absolutely nothing to do because they are the "stars."

YR: 50TH Anniversary Special on "Entertainment Tonight"
I didn't love that line from PB about how Terry played the part for 10 years and then he came in and won an Emmy after a year and a half...

I do find it funny that she's in all these interviews for the 50th talking about it calling it "our show" and I'm like, you're hardly even on! She certainly couldn't do worse. At least she respects the show. I don't find it weird since Bell usually treated rape differently than other shows. It was generally not done within the framework of a "seduction" or "the bad girl gets punished with rape." It was more of a social issue storyline with Chris, Peggy, and B&B's Caroline complete with social workers and a focus on the legal system letting down victims, so more of a natural fit for the type of stories Cricket got. I suppose they could have Nina or someone else be raped and have Cricket be the support but they wanted her to show her acting chops (ahem). Putting her with Michael and then having Paul rape her was gross but that wasn't Bell.

Speaking of fictional books, that Y&R Auction site says Traci's books were titled "Stolen Lockets & Broken Hearts" (is the the Cane/film noir one?) and "On the Wings of Idiots" (?!). https://propstoreauction.com/lot-details/index/catalog/370/lot/107891?url=%2Fauctions%2Fcatalog%2Fid%2F370%3Fpage%3D2

Chance out of the blue told Sharon that he had learned to code when he was doing that super secret spy stuff. Made it sound like they were considering putting him in the orbit of Daniel's computer game storyline.

Y&R: spoiler about absent character
In a couple of years of not mentioning Paul, perhaps Heather will spot him in an airport, but he's with another woman. Christine will finally be ready to move on with a new man, since Paul disappeared all those years ago, which confuses everyone because they thought he was just at the station this whole time. Heather tries to jog his memory, but it doesn't work. When she runs into Paul at Society, Christine faints. Finally, Paul will decide to move back to be with the other woman because he can't cure his amnesia...
