BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
I don't know if any of you have monitored the comment sections on “mainstream” entertainment sites about The Gates premiere news, but it has been predictably creepy and racist (below is a mild example because others were frankly too distasteful to copy and paste). Given that we've avoided this type of discourse, I hope others will report it when they see it. I hope we can avoid the obvious media reports about “backlash” toward the production for highlighting Black culture. Much like, I hope that we can avoid discussions of what constitutes a racist reaction and what could be inferred as offensive.

I thought the unique aspect of Stafford's performance is that she imbued Nina with a delay in maturity, given that she was in a coma for most of her early adulthood. Now, Nina seems like any other middle-aged soap lady. But, Stafford always maintained a certain unfamiliarity and excitement with the concept of being independent, that I found charming and unique. At times, she was a bit too literal in playing wide-eyed innocence to the point that she looked like a Keene painting, but I feel like we've lost that part of Nina's character motivation.

And as I predicted, by the time the numbers were crunched DAYS was still in the Peacock Top 10 on Monday, so hopefully we can put that old canard to rest It is useful to remember that we are a niche part of the audience that follows BTS issues. I am willing to bet that the average Peacock viewer has not noticed a change in the writing, and it has little to no effect on their daily habit of watching the show.

DAYS: April 2024 Discussion Thread
Much like when it was mentioned last week, DAYS is rarely in the top 10 on Monday, because the episode was just released, and they don't have the full data until the next day. However, it has been consistently in the top 10, Tuesday through Friday, for the past month according to this site https://televisionstats.com. Even the new Traitors episodes weren't in the top within hours of their release. And popularity is not a sign of quality on streaming platforms where reruns of Suits were the most watched show for weeks. It'll be fine. My advice would be to worry less how many other people are watching, and just accept it for what it is. And, if you don't enjoy it, know that your opinion has been duly noted amongst us all.

DAYS: Missing?! | promo (April 12, 2024)
I've read that it is going to be super silly, and she's going to steal a snow plow. I'll wait and see, but, I don't think that they've established the premise that Paulina is overprotective of Chanel. She's let her get in tons of trouble without coming to her rescue. So, suddenly breaking out of the hospital feels out of character. Which, to me, is worse than soap characters doing things that are preposterous.

I would propose that there are two big story issues with Amanda that limited her potential as a character. She was saddled with a child way too early. Vicky was still young when she had Stephen, but she had Bridget to excuse her from constant child care. Amanda always seemed to be burdened with Alli, and she missed out on years of young adult stories because of that plot point. It felt like making her young wife and mother was an attempt to diminish her status, and that never sat well with me. Her early motivation to be independent and to eschew the privileges of wealth always felt insincere because it seemed like she did all of that for Sam. We never really got to see Amanda act like the princess of Bay City. Probably because the times indicated that class driven stories were not in fashion. But there are so many missed opportunities to contrast her privilege with that of Vicky, Paulina or Nancy. Sam often referenced her being spoiled, but we never actually saw her complain about not living in the mansion or having lots of possessions. So, she was punished for a past that we never witnessed.

or Marie Osmond? (I had totally forgotten the Marie era) According to a CBS informer, the real reason Marie Osmond left "The Talk" had little to do with needing more time with her family and everything to do with an ongoing battle between her and two of her co-hosts. The source told Page Six that veteran hosts Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood wanted the newbie kicked off the panel for unspecified reasons. The pair reportedly wanted her removed from the show so badly that they threatened to quit themselves if Osmond wasn't forced to leave her job. As I recall from our reading of the contemporaneous SOD, they really messed with Judi Evans. She had moved back to the East Coast after her very successful role on DAYS. NBC wanted to keep her at the network. However, there were also rumblings of casting meetings at ABC (no mention in the stories about a return to GL). NBC was quoted as saying that they were creating a new and interesting character for her, and weeks before, the AW producer praised Cali Timmons for her acting during the “Who Shot Jake?” reveal. Then, they just fired Cali and put Judi in the role (and the Legere bandage dress).

I have to rant about Eric because he is the biggest jerk when it comes to women. After demanding that his son's christening occur at the mansion of his ex-lover, this week, he learned that his wife has been late on paying the rent. Did he question why he doesn't add to a shared bank account with his wife for household expenses? Nope. Did he beg his wife's forgiveness for not contributing equally to the rent? Nope. Did ask his father to pick some extra shifts at the pub in order to earn his keep? Nope. Did he head over to the newspaper and offer his services as a photographer? Nope. He interrogated Sloan about how her spending habits have led to them paying the rent late. Once again, making her defensive for not being responsible for fulfilling his needs. It is going to be difficult to empathize with Eric when he becomes righteously indignant at the revelation over the baby switch. Because, at this point, I'm rooting for Sloan to find her own Italian billionaire to save her from these fools in Salem! She's too pretty and too smart to spend a lifetime in a one-room apartment, raising someone else's kid, and eating chowder.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
https://deadline.com/2024/04/ryan-paeveys-future-at-hallmark-channel-cloudy-1235883644/ “The last 8 months of life in this industry have left a pretty bitter taste in my mouth, and I need some time away from a world so full of fake friends and empty promises.”

Although I am not pretending to be an expert, I would not negate the chance for classic B&B because of the YouTube episodes. Much of James Corden's show was used to promote his YouTube content, because it is an alternate monetary source. In fact, by the final season, according to Variety, CBS was making more money off the online clips than they were making off of first run audience showing. So, it might make sense to show reruns in order to promote the online content.

Diane commented that they're fudging the 40th because it negates her relationship with Victor, as well as Jack's with Nikki, but everyone is going along with it because of the recent trauma.

I thought when Julie said that she drove there, she meant that she drove Rolf's submarine 😉😵💫 I was certain that we'd see Clyde at the cabin, so I was actually happy it was Julie. Although, I wondered if this was Julie's first scene with either Johnny or Chanel? I presume the newlyweds have not gone back to the mansion since their wedding? It was kind of a boring Friday, and I feel like I completely missed the day that Xander actually got exonerated. I saw him go to Rafe about his knock off track pants, but I never saw him actually have the charges dropped, unless that happened off-screen. How fun would it be if one of Chad's kids turns into a mini-Stefano and begins to control John as his pawn? Making him take his spelling tests and finally giving him some attention. Rachel and Thomas are the Stefano and Vivian of the next generation.
