Or, he could've read that week's scripts and figured it out... One tends to think this has been exaggerated for the press. And maybe Doug 3rd is mispronouncing Robert as a "code switch" for when he is speaking to Americans? Like how the French use a hard "h" when speaking English. I'll wait for a scene with Chanel to see how he says her name, or the word “croissant” before I judge. 😉🇫🇷

DAYS: December 2024 Discussion Thread
I want to see contemporary stories about the lives of young sexy people that are intriguing. The idea that those people are related to characters that I recall from forty years ago is nice. But, a foolish adherence to nostalgia would rob future writers from creating dynamic new ideas. And I doubt that the daily kvetching of an ex-nun and a retired lounge singer would bring in big audiences. Also, much like I had sympathy for AZ for having to work with men that were disrespectful, I feel for actors like Elia Cantu and Lamon Archey who have to share scenes with an actor who has endorsed racists beliefs. Everyone deserves respect in the workplace, regardless of how long another actor has played a part.

So, is the funeral as meaningful if the cast is not around? As I recall, a lot of the emotional heft was put on Josh because they shared time together in physical rehab. But, without Mike, and with a new Ed, it seems like it was an unfortunate time to honor the character because creatively they were limited by circumstances. For example, it would make sense to hold off on the memorial until the audience warmed to the new Ed, and could be empathic to his loss.

So, do we think we'll meet Spencer Olsen or (the confabulist in me), could it be that Doug the 3rd is lying, and he's really Spencer, which would explain why he didn't share any scenes with Steven? Also, I know I've gotten everything wrong about Steven so far, but in the DAYS history book isn't his name spelled with a ph (Stephen)?

I would contend that their relationship was deeper than that. Not only did Doug give Liz a start in her singing career, but also she took over Doug's Place when he left, renamed it Blondie's, and carried on his traditions. But, I agree with the general sentiment about the pacing. I wish that Marie got more time to interact with the Hortons and comment on the refurbishment of the house. I would've liked to see more of Sarah's interactions with Marie and Liz, given their connections to Neal. And I wish the funeral was on Friday, so we got a whole week of flashbacks of how Doug was connected to various people in Salem.

DAYS: December 2024 Discussion Thread
For me, it was the idea that Alice had a diamond necklace that she buried in her wall. Everyone knows Alice only wore pearls, and Tom would have insisted that she at least store it in a safety deposit box at the bank. I could buy Addie having a diamond necklace, but not Alice. It is simply too irresponsible that she never told anyone where the necklace was located. One would think she would have at least had second thoughts after the whole puzzle box debacle. As for the church, I assume we are meant to believe that it was never re-built after Eve bombed it at Ciara and Ben's wedding. But, I agree, invisible roof or not, these folks have to move inside, they're not getting any younger. The small venue was noticable given the odd blocking for the scene. Poor Liz had to sit in back, just so she could get an aisle seat. And tons of folks who live in Salem (besides Chad) were noticably missing from the ceremony. Also @ranger1rg I don't think it is that odd that Shawn, Steve, and Lucas arrived in their suits. I would conjecture that they only planned to be in Salem for one day and they didn't want to pack a suitcase, or find a place to change. I don't know why Ciara chose to wear a mini cocktail dress, but I also suppose that she can't keep a large wardrobe on a boat with two kids.

@JAS0N47 (or any Salem historians) Do the Dimera's live in Kellam Chandler's (Liz's father) old house? I remember something about Tony getting the house. But maybe that was someone else, and maybe the family has moved since then? Or did Victor win someone's house? I also vaguely recall Liz living in the Chandler mansion during her marriage to Neal. And I wonder if she inherited any of Kellam's money, given that between Tod and Joshua, she was the last one standing?

At the risk of getting it all wrong @Bright Eyes Ciara was pregnant during Hope's search for Bo. After a drunken snog with Jada's sister, Shawn acknowledged his alcoholism, and went to rehab in Massachusetts. While Belle agreed to give him space and eventually went to Hong Kong (no word if she's run into Tripp and Wendy who are also there). I would be excited to meet Liz's sons, as long as one of them isn't a judge on Salem's version of the Masked Singer…. I think Doug's possession was his last hurrah, in terms of big stories, but it didn't need to be included. I'm certain many will blame the writer for trying to pat himself on the back by making it an important moment. But, I'm sure Kayla would have more meaningful memories of Doug. I thought the black and white fake flashback at the end was creative. But, it is funny that they've not mentioned Susan's complicity in Doug's coming to Salem. Also, Eli was oddly knowledgeable about Doug's history.

I am such a dunce, of course, he's Hope's half-brother.... Thanks @jam6242 & @carolineg for setting me straight. I didn't mind Jennifer today, I thought she could easily slide into the benevolent matriarch role. Which is funny considering that when she was SORASed, we were told that she was a bit of a handful. But, I guess everyone grows up. I giggled when they mentioned that Hope was “always” good at opening puzzle boxes, as if she had done it more than one time. But, I was slightly disappointed that we didn't actually see Ciara open the box, because I still don't get why it was so difficult to figure out. Everyone's funereal garb was character specific, including Ciara's too-short cocktail number. I won't comment on if Liz and Marie made up before leaving Salem (due to already faulty memories), but I would understand if they held a grudge. It really highlights how important Neal was to the history of DAYS, and how they did him wrong by never giving him an exit story. I look forward to their interactions with Sarah.

I am totally not an expert, and I don't want to spread disinformation, but I always thought Stephen was referenced as Julie's half-brother. And that she held a grudge against Addie for preferring Stephen, while leaving her in Salem to live with Tom and Alice. Looking back, Addie may have married Ben while in Salem, and they moved to Paris, but I assumed she had Stephen while overseas. Now, I am intrigued, and I hope someone can fill us in with the truth.

I'm sorry my tone was disrespectful, but I'm not a corpse/cemetery guy. I'm more about mourning the loss of the relationship than the physical form. We are strictly a cremation/bury-the-ashes-at-sea family. Luckily not because a powerful drug dealer in our town steals dead bodies. More because I read The American Way of Death by Jessica Mitford, and it changed my outlook on the subject. Also, sorry if that's TMI. 😉
