  1. tomorrow on Decades THE JOAN RIVERS SHOW - SUSAN LUCCI, AGNES NIXON, FELICIA BEHR, AND MORE "Susan Lucci reveals her favorite moments from the Soap world, life behind-the-scenes, and her audience's response to Erica Kane. Then, Agnes Nixon and Felicia Behr join to discuss the writing and producing process of All My Children."
  2. LVP's annual plea for a relationship with Erika Jayne mystifies me. Erika is civil to LVP regardless of their friendship status, and she's not a [!@#$%^&*]-stirrer, so there doesn't seem to be any personal gain. They have nothing in common, they don't share a similar sense of humor, and they have no similar interests. Also, LVP always dresses as if she spent lots of money a decade ago on clothes and has been recycling them ever since. Nothing she wears ever looks new or fresh. She's got three hairdos, a dozen pink silk blouses, some good bags, and a bunch of old shoes that Rosio keeps painting the bottoms red. On the other hand, does Louis Vuitton really make hair salon smocks?
  3. I forgot that Texas and The Doctors ended on the same day. I wonder what the promos were like? Texas makes my head spin trying to remember the characters (Ashley, Allison, and Paige all merge into one) but The Doctors still had many OG characters on until the end TEXAS: Week of December 27 - December 31, 1982 (11:00am - 60 minutes - NBC) FINAL WEEK Justin and Ashley reunited after she gave birth to a girl. Judith decided to give Grant and Reena a chance at happiness. Paige was optimistic that she and TJ will have a future together. Brett was persuaded to take a job in Alaska. Allison and Ashley reconciled. Stella was promoted, and Vicky threw a farewell party at KVIK after she lost ownership. And the only truly happy couple appeared to be Lurlene and Joel. THE DOCTORS: Week of December 27 - December 31, 1982 (Noon - 30 minutes - NBC) FINAL WEEK Jeff pulled the veil from his new bride, who turned out to be Adrienne. Natalie was shocked to learn Paul and Felicia were arrested for murdering Billy. Matt and Maggie reconciled, while Kit and Mike also planned a wedding. Althea got fed up with Jean Marc’s preoccupation with Felicia. Ivy split when Luke found a new girl.
  4. @WendySomehow Kelly Capwell looked ten years younger in her second wedding to Jeffery than in her first wedding to Joe (with an awful hairdo and neck-thingy)
  5. GH's Brenda Barrett has had a couple of time to do it correctly The first time was pretty, but generic and didn't fit her daily style I don't know the order of this one (#2 or #3) but it is my favorite Then, there's this one which is just the worst, bad fit, bad hair, bad dress
  6. Lucy's red wedding was way before Game of Thrones But her hat was only slightly larger than Reva's
  7. If we are talking headpieces then Calliope's really takes the proverbial cake, she seems to be satirizing Hope's global headgear Then we got Amanda Cory's convertible headpiece; one for the ceremony and one for if you wanted to go jogging later Nina Courtland's hats got better every time she remarried
  8. A couple more of my favorites Felicia (GH) - I love the traditional veil, she looks gorgeous Anna Devane (GH) - I like when a dress matches the character and this looks like something Anna would wear at the time. She was a professional, who had started to embrace feminity with Robert, so it seemed like something she would buy WORST On the other hand, I do not believe that chic Barbara Ryan would wear a figure skating outfit to her wedding to Hal And Kim's headpiece defies explanation - how did she hear her vows?
  9. In honor of this week's Oscars and the inevitable posts about best and worst dressed, I thought I would post a few of my best and worst soap wedding dresses of all time. BEST: no particular order: Sloan Denning (Capitol) - so chic, good use of a headpiece, the dress was appropriate for such a big wedding and I think it holds up to the test of time Kelly Capwell (Santa Barbara) - I love the nod to vintage fashion, this wasn't Kelly's first wedding so she kept it simple when marrying her fiance's evil twin WORST Hope Brady's multi-tiered veil seemed like it was used to make her the same height as Bo - I recall that the actress wore it again to her own wedding, (maybe it was still stuck to her head?). Nikki Newman's 80 lbs gown was a little over the top for a woman on her third wedding And finally, the worst of all time Eden Capwell's Pebble Beach Victorian Wedding - not the right dress for the occasion, setting, time, or place - it is so horrible that even the awful bridesmaid's dresses were not as gouache Please respond with pictures of your favorite and least favorite ensemble

    Christopher Atkins turned 58 yesterday
  11. I was trying to do the Blake/Fowler SORAS math to see if it strains logic. Rachel, Mitch, and Janice were around the same age. Amanda was 18 when she met Sam and Evan Frame. So, Loretta either stole some early iteration of Botox, or she had Sam twenty years after Mitch, or Janice had vastly underestimated her age. Either way, I think the inclusion of Loretta just confused the issue of how Mitch's brother could be age-appropriate for Amanda and Olivia.
  12. I like this one because of all the ways one could watch tv on the go before iphones - it was all of the convenience of carrying around a brick with cord I had a Sony Watchman TV. As I recall it was expensive, around $80 at the time, and I bought it to sneak a peek at Bo&Hope's wedding while in school. Analog reception, with a dial that had to be tuned to the exact position, so it was impossible to move and watch a show, and a screen so small it makes an iphone look like imax.
  13. Let's put it this way: I don't believe Doug Marland ever intended for Quint to be tied to Chamberlains like that. Can you (or anyone else) expound on this?
  14. And she was presumed dead twice more in her lifetime? That's life in a soap town...
  15. It is funny that you would ask that because I was reading a recap from 1979 and this came up: Jill entered L'Allegro and suddenly felt less alone ... Derek was there too. One thing is certain, she would not reveal that she was shocked to hear that Suzanne and he were planning to remarry. Derek, who did not want to let him know that he too was shocked by the news, explained that he was planning to resell the Chancellor residence and leave for the south of France with Suzanne. He would probably leave tomorrow. He would never see each other again after tonight. Which also made me wonder if there was a time when Kay didn't live in the mansion (or residence as it is called here)?
  16. It may be because it is Valentine's Days but I am starting to come around to the "Heat of the Day" Two reasons, the editing of the scenes and the music is spot on which is not the same for the NBC promos. Also, primetime only needs one promo a week, but daytime needs so much more which must have been difficult creatively. BUT - "in the heat of the day/it's hot" is still an awful lyric
  17. I'm reading the 1982 summaries and I have a question: How surprising was Quint's revelation as Sean (Henry's son and Vanessa's brother)? From the summaries, it seems telegraphed from the beginning. However, Vanessa was surprised so I was wondering if the audience felt the same way?
  18. I have a question: When Laura became Stavros Cassadine's widow, (after she returned the first time when Luke was elected mayor) why didn't she get part of the Cassadine fortune in his will? In the promo for Laura's return, they show Stavros putting this huge necklace around her neck. Didn't she get to keep any of the jewelry? She seemed to have all of her clothes, why didn't she pack her diamonds? I was thinking the same thing about why Jennifer Horton didn't get any of the Alamain fortune when she divorced Lawrence. Soap divorce law can be so unjust. I know it's a soap, (yadda, yadda, yadda), but I am wondering if there was any mention of this detail in the story?
  19. It's odd that 30 years later promos were directed at a totally different audience. However, the 1974 promos are appropriate for their time. Heck, there was a show called How to Survive a Marriage, soaps were all about "contemporary drama" and navel-gazing seemed sophisticated.
  20. I find those spots to be equally cheeky and charming (even if they made no sense with the characters and their respective plotlines). Lenore Kasdorf and Kristen Meadows were so great on their prior shows that it might have induced me to tune in.
  21. I had no idea you were THE SoapFoxKirby, thank you for all of your postings So much fun, you even found the final one in the series, thank you If SoapPromoKing replies to this thread we'll have a YT classic soap trifecta.
  22. NBC did have good print ads, even if the commercials weren't great ABC's print ads were always corny
  23. You are correct sir However "still the one and we're really alive/still the one as the '80s arrive" is a terrible lyric Almost as bad as "in the heat of the day/there's a different kind of fire" - how many kinds of fire are there? Isn't that like saying there's a different kind of water? I was trying to find my other favorite ABC promo where they would show a scene from tomorrow's episode and you would have to guess the next line. Does anyone recall those ads?
  24. On its own "What (in the Name of Love)" is a booty shackin' bop, but played back to back, that high note on "are we doing" becomes torturous Imagine how many times Hillary B. Smith and her contemporaries had to do those quick look to the camera moments for promos through the years? I bet they all have stiff necks and poor startle responses.
  25. I think we've developed some interesting data: 1) We clearly prefer actual pop songs versus songs written for commercials 2) Recurring male narration, both for the familiarity of repetition and the idiosyncratic tone of CBS-Clarence saying "The Guiding Light" and ABC-Ernie Anderson's sticcado delivery 3) Hair tossing, lots and lots of hair tossing
