Days: February 2023 Discussion Thread
In the DAYS universe does Stefan (and many others) just not recall being in purgatory and then coming back to life or does this only happen in non-Rolf-related events?

Aaron Carter at the Grammy's - I defy anyone to find actual outrage beyond a single lady from the midwest who tweeted about it once to her 20 person following. There's usually some obscure celeb that died and wasn't included and it is always reported as if the award producers actually spit on their grave.

Can we please end the discourse over people who were not included in award shows in-memorium segments? EDIT: not we meaning this board, we meaning the culture online

Is the Post deliberately using poor grammar for clickbate? Because I think they mean she was compensated $1M to speak. However, as written, it could be inferred that she offered them $1M to say a few words. I mean I wouldn't want to have to sit through her lecture either way, but the intention was intriguing. Can you imagine Kim K trying to create a PowerPoint deck, even for $1M?

Bravo's The Real Housewives of....
I think some of the discussion around RHoP Robyn deflecting from her husband's infidelity misses one crucial factor; production. Should Robyn have been honest when confronted? - yes Was Robyn under any demand to bring it up on her own? - no I think what's being ignored is that production was in her home for weeks. They had previously caught Juan in a "hot mic" moment complaining about Robyn on a prior season. How did they not pick up on the tension between the couple and start asking questions?

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
While the shared viewing aspect of big media is gone (see last night's SNL Hollywood Quiz sketch), it seems like Netflix and HBOMax are incapable of producing content that isn't multiple episodes.

It's funny that they mention the shift from American Express commercials to vitamin supplement ads when they couldn't get big name sponsors because if you were to tune into Fox news on any given night that's all they sell, walk-in tubs and those automated chairs to carry folks up the stairs.

I'm always surprised by the range and strength of Harry's voice. The Grammy's have been weird for the past twenty years when it became only about performances and not about awards. But, I found it entertaining.

Rumors of Robyn's firing or Andy's anger were greatly exaggerated given the tone of the WWHL after-show where they're giggling about being able to keep her wedding a secret and Andy being "in on the joke" Robyn Dixon - Twitter Search Twitter.mp4

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
Not to be too tangential, but, isn't interesting that the LA Riots seemed to have been written into more contemporary primetime shows in 1992 than COVID in 2022. LA Law, A Different World, Doogie Howser, Fresh Prince, and 90210, all included the riots in their storyline, but you hardly even see people in masks on primetime TV today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1992_Los_Angeles_riots_in_popular_culture#Television

Days: February 2023 Discussion Thread
The one idea that has stuck with me during the mildly entertaining purgatory story is that without including some discussion about Abigail in the after-life, this plot seems incomplete. I mean once Kayla returns from the dead, shouldn't Jack and Chad be pissed that she didn't bring Abby with her? And shouldn't the ladies have some moral quandary about returning from the dead when a mother of two young children remains behind? In that universe, perhaps Abby is in heaven, so they won't run into her. But, we need some exposition about why certain recent deaths are reversible and others are not. Otherwise, the co-existing story about Chad moving on with Stephanie seems odd. Also, I know we probably won't see this degree of insight, but imagine how a doctor like Kayla would function after she knew that death was reversible? That would be a interesting twist, if Kayla becomes either more callous or more risky knowing that there are no vital consequences to illnesses or accidents in the hospital. However, we all know that by spring she'll have completely forgotten that she was ever dead.

BOLD promo "A Custody Battle is Brewing"
Not quite true, although it may be a fact on soaps. IRL one would have to be declared incompetent by the courts in order to invalidate a custody agreement. Insanity is a legal term, a clinical diagnosis does not always result in a ruling of insanity.

I don't understand the social media response to the destruction of the Chinese spy balloon. Why are gen z'ers treating this as a joke rather than an egregious display on the part of China that they have lost interest in detente? And will the NYT report that Trump hid three prior attempts at the same spy game during his presidency just become a coda to the humorous memes?

Crossroads
Her biopic was much more fun because the story had more depth and didn't only focus on her time in soaps. And, I think we have to take into account that, (according to the doc), Nolly's series Lunchbox was only shown in the Midlands, because that's how the UK networks were organized at the time. So, she might not have been as popular to viewers in the north or in London. Similar to Lee Phillip Bell's fame in Chicago, whereas to rest of the country she was just Bill Bell's wife.

Crossroads
I watched the doc The Real Nolly prior to watching the three part series, which I would not recommend because it is a 45 minute TL:DR of the whole story. I really enjoyed the miniseries. HBC did Noelle dirty when it came to the singing because the real Nolly had a powerful singing voice. And making the central drama around her dismissal kind of negates her other accomplishments both as a morning show hostess and TV executive. However, I walked away wondering how iconic she really is? Everyone notes that Crossroads was made on the cheap, but it won a ton of soap awards. She was on it for 17 years, but she died four years after the publicity of her being sacked, which is now more than 40 years ago. The wiki notes that it beat Corrie in the ratings, but there were only three networks in the UK at the time. So, I have to question about whether a modern audience would even remember her if it wasn't for Russel T Davies? For comparison, is she Susan Lucci famous or Mary Stuart famous? Because both were soap stars, but arguably only Lucci is iconic. Also, I kept thinking that RTD must be Ron Carlivati's hero, because they both revel in historic references to soap divas.

DAYS Weekly Promo
I had exactly the same reaction. As written, both Nick and Ben attributed their actions to mental illness, but somehow Ben wound up a hero and now Nick is the literal devil. I would say it's a hunk-bias, but to each their own, I've thought Berris was cute ever since those paparazzi pics of him hiking in saggy shorts with a misidentified Julia Styles.

Years ago I followed Dave Rubin on social media when he was a comedian on OutTV. Now, he goes on Fox News to rail against The Sims for including gender nonconforming undergarments using racist dog whistle language. You know the universe is unjust when this loser of the Don Jr.-Lookalike-Pageant makes a better living promoting trans panic than entertaining the LGBTQ community. https://twitter.com/NikkiMcR/status/1620870887217176578?s=20

Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
Louise/Augusta elevated all of her scene partners. There's those episodes where she seduces Joe, where I finally saw his appeal; so to speak. She was one of the only actors who could go head to head with Minx, before Lionel reappears. And her Oedipal interactions with Warren at the Beach Hut while insinuating that he had a teen aged romance with his neighbor Channing were scandalous for the time. Also, note the date of those scenes where some reason Warren has chosen the Lockridge living room to teach Summer how to scuba for the treasures of the sunken ship at night. IIRC, it was October which would've been awfully cold for Summer to be hanging out in a bikini in Santa Barbara. John Allen Nelson goes diving.mp4

I get the disdain for the character of Gwen based upon her egregious crimes, but to me, Emily O'Brien is so damn charming that I enjoy watching her on screen. And, at least they haven't fallen into the soap trap of calling her Gwen Deveraux. I was also a fan of Anne-Marie Martin's Gwen Davies, so it may be that I just have an affinity for the name.
