Guiding Light Discussion Thread
So, this is totally just conjecture based on reading Zimmer's memoir and Pam Long interviews. It seems like Long felt some ownership over the character of Reva, which eventually caused some friction between the two women over discussions of what Reva would or wouldn't do as a character. Zimmer writes of a lunch with Long and a CBS executive that devolved into a screaming match when discussing Zimmer's desire for some time off to go to LA for pilot season, resulting in the executive wanting to hide under the table. And in her exit interview with SOD, Long talked about scuttled plans to bring back Reva in a dream for Christmas. Thus, what I would imagine occurred is that Zimmer wanted to leave, but Long held out hope for her to return. The resolution was an exit that needed to be semi-permanent enough to please both women.

I read that he's going to be Jackson Montgomery, so I wonder if he'll represent Carly if she goes to trial?

The Chad Dimera Award for Most Unlikely Leading Character
The examples that came to mind were Ava and Julian Jerome (GH), she out lived, out lasted, and out smarted him Natalie & Janet on AMC, Janet was arguably more iconic and had a longer lasting impact on the story over time On Another World Vicky out shined Marley, Donna certainly surpassed Peter who was introduced first, and while Catlin may have lasted less time than Blaine, he was much more of a central character than Larry who preceded him. And nobody could've predicted that GH's Tony Jones would've overshadowed Frisco, given that he supposed to be killed off in his year on the show.

Days: June 2023 Discussion Thread
The Sloan reveal was clever, except for the fact that DNA tests indicate gender, so it is unlikely that the lab would overlook that fact when determining paternity. Also, doesn't her whole plan rely on EJ not being tested (which she wouldn't have known to be true because the plan was to swab them both)? If EJ had also been tested, and both were ruled out as the father, they would have just re-swabed both guys and Sloan's plan would have failed.

Karamo, JHud, & Sherri - first reactions to the new talkshows
@Khan I feel like amongst the current crop, Sheri is the naturally talented to host a show on her own. I love Kelly's singing, but she can't interview without reading every question from a pre-interview. Drew has a unique take on interviewing, and seems genuinely interested in her guest's stories, but her energy is way too manic for my taste. Sheri does a very good opening chat, perhaps due to her training in standup comedy. But she needs a production staff who will prepare her better, fewer games, and a regular group of experts because she does well in those segments (like how Regis had the Love Chef and Mrs. Greenthumbs). Does anyone recall the name of the Persian lady beauty expert on Regis that used fruits and veg as a face mask (was it Regine?), or the blond lady fashion expert who was always introduced as the spokesperson for the cotton council?

GH: Classic Thread
Bill starts as a working class guy living with his family. Then he instantly gains wealth and his family leaves or dies; except for Jenny, who also becomes instantly rich through marriage. Then he gets a sudden evil ex-wife and kid. Then, he becomes a single dad living in a lighthouse. Then he is a light romantic hero with Julia and their fight against the cartel who wants to take over ELQ. And then he takes a turn as a more malevolent character with his rivalry with Damien Smith toward the end of his life. Visually, he goes from strawberry blond to platinum blond as he becomes a darker character. Briefly, in the 1991 reset there was also a coffee shop, and bakery run by the Eckarts, which was poised to be an alternate meeting place for those who congregated at Ruby's Diner, but it was gone as quickly as cousin Joey and his dog. But, most amusingly to me in the Monty re-set was that Bobbie had quit the hospital during her time seeking to adopt a baby, then she returned the day that Bill was injured, without explanation. And Anna dated the awful Edge Jerome (with the ponytail) before suddenly remembering that she liked Robert and wanted to tie him to columns in order to seduce him.

The Media/Journalism Thread
Rumors of Chuck Todd's dismissal have been around for years, so I doubt it was in response to any recent crisis. I wonder who will take his place? MSNBC seems like a good source of hosts. Joy Reid is good in a debate, but has a problematic past on social media. Nicole Wallace took over Chuck's cable gig, but she is not very confrontational without a panel. It seems like a perfect job for Rachel Maddow who wants to work fewer hours, has a soothing aura for a Sunday morning, and it would be nice to get some LGBTQ representation on Sundays. I remember reading Todd's predecessor David Gregory's memoir because his story of leaving NBC always stuck out to me. He described his embarrassment that not only did nobody fight for him to stay at the network, but nobody was sad to see him go. He knew his lack of impulse control when it came to anger had gotten the best of him, and it was a moment of clarity that he had to change his relationship to his workplace. Good lesson to learn, ever if it is too late sometimes...

Dallas Discussion Thread
My interpretation is that Cliff was motivated by personal jealousy rather than avarice or greed. JR always wanted to please his Momma and get approval from his Daddy, whom he feared preferred Bobby. But, Cliff never had a Momma, nor a Daddy whose opinion mattered because Jock "stole" Miss Ellis from Digger. Therefore, he yearned for everything that the Ewings had in terms of being a family and if he couldn't have it, he wanted to destroy their happiness. Later, when Rebecca dies helping Cliff try to beat the Ewings, it drove Cliff insane because the family that he always dreamed of is destroyed due to his obsession.

GH: Classic Thread
When was Bobbie held hostage in the hospital and by whom? I vaguely recall the island stuff in reverse. Please feel free to correct any errors in my memory. Karen, Jagger, and Jason go to the island for an adventure/vacation/date. They get trapped and then are terrorized by Adkins' brother. It all ends in a fight on a cliff and the bad guy falls off the cliff. Thinking that it is all over, the teen return to Port Charles and vow not to tell anyone what happened. Of course, the bad guy didn't die. He threatens Karen, which is why she starts stealing cars. But, it all ends, they catch the bad guy and everyone goes back to normal. The intro of Karen's generation of teens was a huge reset at the time and signaled a new period of story telling.

Karamo, JHud, & Sherri - first reactions to the new talkshows
Checked in JHud and Sherri this week First, Sheri teased former ABC journalist Elizabeth Vargas, (who years ago wrote a memoir about her recovery from alcoholism and promoted it on The View while Sherri was a co-host), about not being fun because she doesn't drink To be fair, Elizabeth was being a bit of nutty diva And then JHud had on Ego Nwodim from SNL, in an eight-minute segment, three minutes were spent on the pronunciation of her name, then two minutes on her family, a two-minute set-up for her impersonation of Dionne Warwick, and then a commercial. A whole season of shows and JHud is still incapable of just having a semi-organic conversation and has no idea of why her guests are on her show.

The Chad Dimera Award for Most Unlikely Leading Character
This is the original mention of the Brenda (pitched as Kelly) and the Barrett clan in SOD from March 19, 1991 Brenda may fit the brief as a surprising lead, given that in subsequent articles there was much more focus on the casting of Harlan, who was going to be paired with Tracy and there were big hopes for him as a character

@JAS0N47 At what point will DAYS have produced the most continuous episodes of any show on a streaming platform? It seems like there are a lot of shows with more than one 10-15 episode season. But, I wonder if any other show has produced almost a year's worth of material released daily specifically for a streaming service?

I'm so sick of the narrative that marketing to minorities is bad for business that I've decided to buy the item each time we get these types of stories during pride month The North Face sweatshirt, Bombas socks, and Yankee candle were pricey. But I am supporting them over companies like Target and Bud who cut and run at the first sign of opposition.

The Abe stuff was more amusing than I expected. That bandage on his head made me chuckle (why did he have surgery for a concussion?). It's just silly, but I was pleasantly surprised that Jaymes Reynolds was so capable at playing light comedy. I don't watch DAYS with the same expectations as other shows. It is limited both in terms of production values and complexity. But it is frequently a fun couple of minutes each morning (thank goodness for ad suppression).

I enjoy the Nicole and Anna pseudo-maternal relationship. But, it is odd if you think about that she's Carrie's mother, and Sami's step-mother, and she threw Nicole under the bus during the kidnapping story (semi-literally). I don't recall a moment when they reconciled their past. So, it is a bit left field, but the actors are so charismatic that they make it work.
