Cheers kind of became the anti-timeslot hit. While Cosby brought eye balls to it, it later flourished on its own and had its own unique dedicated following.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
The last 2 seasons were awful with Olivia and Cousin Pam overload. Too much cutesy kid sh!t with Olivia, and Pam had like no reason whatsoever to be on this show. In fact, I was so bored by Erika Alexander, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed her on Living Single later.

Yes, that opening sticks out, good or not, lol. Season 6 was TCS's last season at #1 (tied with Roseanne that season). This was the opening:

MVJ is a master at writing monologues (like Luke’s confession to Lucky about raping Laura, which Geary gave her a special shout out for when he won the Emmy that year and didn’t do his typical ad-libbing with by most accounts). Assuming she can write some select scripts (in addition to her other responsibilities), I really look forward to hopefully seeing her give TT some killer monologues to act out.- BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
Again, having a theatrically trained and veteran actress like TT is such a huge boon to this new show. She’s at the top of the cast list and sets the tone. I wonder if VR or DM for that matter were ever really in any consideration, but I think they made the right decision here. TT can sing and has a working class upbringing that really gels with the character description for Betty/Anita. To me, this is perfect casting.- BTG: History, Behind the Scenes Articles & Photos
