EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I hope Tiana has been taking acting lessons as well if she ever comes back, she was just as green as Matt was. They never did anything substantial with her though, this is one of the only moments that automatically comes to mind when I think of her: God, 2006-2007 had some awful ass moments. I think DTC, like most of the past producers, has very little interest in the Foxes though. He wouldn't possibly invest in anyone without the last name Carter.

Other than DTC's obvious hard-on for Matt Di Angelo, I really can't justify why Dean's rapist ass is still on this show. Not only do they appear to be whitewashing his crime, but Di Angelo is also one of the very worst actors in all of soaps. Pretty to look at yes, but you get over that, just totally unwatchable.

He should quit and just do musical theatre - because he can't act otherwise.

I think Ryder also did some sort of tabloid interview after he left as well, which pissed off John Yorke (though Yorke had already left by the time Jamie was killed off) as well. I think it was the interview where he said, "If you're not a Slater, then see you later!" I can see why Ryder and Kym Marsh were an item for a while...

What Are You Listening To?
- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
Noe of this will have any significance two months from now. That's been the show's big issue over the past few years - so many stunts with little ramification in the end. The fact the show seems to be built around stunts totally goes against its grain too.- Mariah Carey Thread
That's been Mariah's big issue since the late 90's though - she's often a guest on her own songs and albums since she relies so heavily on guest rappers and duets. Also, her voice is shot and she just can't sing anymore. The clips from her Vegas show are laughable. A pill-popping Judy Garland in her final days had a better voice and more stage presence than Mariah does today.- Mariah Carey Thread
Even more than your breakdown post-Glitter, Mariah? The Emancipation of Mimi was a fluke, she's been flopping harder than she ever did with Glitter ever since.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I wonder if he'll really be back after a year... DTC will probably be gone by then, and I don't think he ever really had much interest in Max this time around and who knows if the next producer will.- Mariah Carey Thread
I agree, when she's dead and long gone, All I Want For Christmas Is You will be her most remembered contribution to pop culture. The song has become a Christmas standard worldwide. While songs like One Sweet Day and We Belong Together had long stints at #1, they are nothing special and very of their time. Mariah was never a pop culture artist in the sense that Michael Jackson and Madonna were/are. During the Tommy Mottola years she's was known as Queen of MOTR (Middle of the Road), because she pretty much always played it safe with the pop/R&B ballads. That obviously changed when she rebelled against the Mottola/Sony system and started doing really bad and souless Hip-Hop influenced R&B songs, which have since helped kill her career.- Mariah Carey Thread
Rihanna will likely pass her in a few more years, and she's still young enough to resonate with the general buying audience a few years from now too.- Mariah Carey Thread
They aren't obscure, but a lot of them haven't stood the test of time and don't incur much recurrent airplay. Not to mention, Tommy Mottola bought a great deal of her "hits" at one point... Who honestly remembers I Don't Wanna Cry, Thank God I Found You, Don't Forget About Us, and Touch My Body these days?- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
She's never been as popular as the show wanted (and still wants) the general public to believe. There was never a time IMO where she was even close to being among the most popular actresses on the show. I don't think they've ever tried harder to make both a character and actress happen longer over such a long period of time. They've never understood this, however. The closest I think Corrie has gotten close to creating a character over the past few years to approach Elsie/Bet territory is probably with Carla. Becky arguably came as well, but that was shot to hell during her last two years or so.- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
I just can't, and the sad thing is, this may be Steve's longest paring. We know Kym Marsh will sadly be there forever and she knows that her future isn't bright without the show (unlike Suranne Jones and Katherine Kelly). As I said before, I can't think of two worst characters being paired together than these two.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Susan Hill confirmed it on Twitter. I assume this is the right time for her to leave if she wants to have a career outside of soaps. She's in her early 30's, by the time she gets to 40, the opportunities will be more limited.- Mariah Carey Thread
She's so irrelevant and such a joke these days that it's almost sad.- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
For those who have no interest in watching the entire BSA 2015 show, here is the Anne Kirkbride Lifetime Achievement/tribute section: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-7CmNGeHKs Sometimes I still can't believe she's no longer with us...- Coronation Street: Discussion Thread
In preparation of Steve's latest wedding, the Corrie Facebook page is posting clips from his previous weddings. I've never seen this clip or the episode of his wedding to Vicky. Bet, Liz, Vicky, and Steve all look like they're in hell. https://www.facebook.com/CoronationStreet/videos/vb.75373902658/10153005365022659/?type=1&theater Obviously, his most memorable wedding is the first failed one with Karen that Tracy crashed. But I really can't think of a more unwatchable pair than Michelle and Steve. The fact that they're getting married is a reflection of how bad this show truly is these days.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I think in some regions of upstate NY, they get CBC from Canada, so they can see the Canadian Corrie airings.- Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
I didn't know they aired any of the soaps outside of EE. How long they did they carry it for? Didn't Corrie also have a brief US run? For the life of me, I can't remember on which network though.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
EastEnders legend June Brown is losing her sight but still has to work due to financial crisis- Another World Discussion Thread
Duncan did great in the role, but I do have a hard time reconciling it with the character McKinsey played in the 70's. They are just completely different actresses, and I felt like Duncan's Iris seemed to be a product of her time and clearly inspired by Joan Collins, if that makes sense... I don't know if it would have been different had McKinsey resurrected the role though. Though, I guess doing GL was hugely beneficial for her as it allowed a new generation of soap fans to know her and proved she could be someone else in the same genre other than Iris.- Janet Jackson Appreciation Thread
Hopefully she's inspired to put out something with quality after her long hiatus. Actually, I do think Jimmy Jam and Terr Lewis were actually part of her deterioration, by the time of 2001's All For You, their chemistry with Janet had clearly gone away and Janet needed to step away from them. The problem is - she chose the wrong people. The fact she gave Jermaine Dupri so much control of her music career for a while was not a good decision on her part. Luckily she split with him personally and professionally a while ago.... The rumours are she's hoping to do a Rhythm Nation part 2 (have music with a socially conscious message). We'll see how that goes - though after singing about sex for a long time, she needs a new theme. Anyway, in terms of Janet history, this is actually a big week for her. 22 years ago in 1993 she scored the biggest hit of her career when That's The Way Love Goes hit #1 - where it would remain for 8 week. The accompanying janet. album would also be the most successful of her career.- EastEnders: Discussion Thread
