I see Trump called the White House "a dump". This man is just unfailingly awful.

This administration has no idea what they're doing. I would be gloating if I weren't terrified.

He just won't stop tweeting. Now he's on China and "the foolish leaders of the past" who let them make billions on trade.

I'm reading White Working Class by Joan Williams at the recommendation of someone on Facebook. I know some people are well over this group, but I am learning some interesting things. For example few people making under $30,000 voted for Trump. The average income of his voters is $72, 000 (I did know that). It's a short and interesting read because it tells me some things I've been wondering about how the WWC is different from the working class as a whole. One thing she said is that black people look at people in poverty and think "There but for the grace of God go I". White people tend to think that it's their family values and adhesiveness to social norms that keep them from slipping into poverty. The implication she seems to be making is that both ideas are right. One divorce, once slip into addiction and people on the edge slip into poverty. It's just that the WWC way of thinking leads to resentment of people that do slip and need public assistance. Oh girl. Of course, black people will be good allies. I mean will white people find their souls and courage and do the same for you if it comes to that.

Absolutely. You're probably right that he will want to brutalize anyone who opposes him, but the response to his tweet banning trans people from the military gives me hope that people will stand with marginalized groups. The proof is in the pudding and I feel like many of us have not truly been tested. Not the way average people in Germany were tested in the 30's and 40's I mean. I'm hoping we won't be, but every day 45 is testing for weakness and seeing how far he can push into being an authoritarian leader. Today's speech proved that.

He doesn't apologize because he does not give one single f*ck about anyone else. There are days I still can't believe this terrible human being was elected our leader. Then I remember the majority did vote against him, so there is hope for our country yet. Next up tax reform. If they couldn't give a massive tax break to the wealthy by gutting healthcare they'll just do it directly. Still, I'll take this over repeal of the ACA.

I take back all of the cynical thoughts I've had about John McCain. That's what makes them trolls. It's only a real debate on your side. Block them and forget them.

Truth! I'm not sure how I could be more disgusted with our so called leaders. Meanwhile Ben Sasse is tweeting his daughter's entitled text messages complaining about "The lame vote a rama" or some such. I'll excuse her since she is a minor, but he disgusts me for tweeting that when he's in the middle of taking away people's healthcare. I doubt McCain cares about being in the crosshairs of his constituents right now. He's never going to run for office again.

This is an interesting article on Lisa Murkowski. I lived in Anchorage for a short time, but I haven't kept up with the politics there. It's sort of touching that the Alaskan Bush People learned to spell her name (and practiced writing it) and that she's made a point of not betraying them. Also a reminder of how dirty politics can be with Mitch McConnall trying to buy her off (something called the Kodiak Kickback) and we aren't even sure he's failed yet. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/7/27/16030520/murkowski-republican-health-bill Then another article about Trump threatening to screw over the entire state of Alaska because of the healthcare vote. https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-threatens-isolate-alaska-093409489.html

Did I just hear the ICE chief repeatedly call people animals? I was struggling with a toddler so I can't be sure. If so that's deeply disturbing.

I've had this thought many times. Even if Trump were a better speaker we'd be in deeper trouble. Thank goodness he's an inarticulate idiot.

I'd take Archie over what we have now. He was no prize, but I never had the impression that he actively enjoyed cruelty. With Trump you can see that he takes pleasure in putting his boot on other people's faces.

He doesn't have that power thank the gods. We saw today that some members of the GOP will stand against him. They aren't showing moral courage, don't get me wrong. They are standing with their own people though and that's something. Perhaps the lowest possible bar for a leader, but still something.

Yes, but I'm more disgusted that we send them to kill. We've been at war for most of the last 20 years, but we haven't had that many casualties. If you say one is too many for a pointless war I'll agree, but the death we've brought to the world is much worse then anything our country has endured. Which I suppose is my round about way of saying that the odds are on a person's side if they choose to use the military to escape a hopeless future. I'd much rather we do more vocational training, but the last year is beating me into a realist.

The military has been a means for many people to climb out of poverty, especially teenagers who don't have a stable home life. Is that fair? No, but it's better than not having any options at all. There are quite a few benefits (help with college, home loans) if you work it right.

I think it's really hard to turn back the clock on this kind of thing. What's next is he going to try to ban women and gay people? I wish these leaders would spend as much time trying to solve the military's problem with rape as they do worrying about soldier's gender and sexual identity.

Does he have the power to just tweet it and make it so? Every day we wake up to see 45 trying to screw over more people's lives. I keep seeing people say things like "it's going to take decades" to undo all the damage he's doing". Maybe I even said that kind of thing myself four or five months ago, but it's slowly sinking in that it can't be undone. The policies can be changed, but you can't give individuals back what they've lost or take away the trauma some people are going through.

Like Marceline said he will almost certainly vote for this bill when it comes down to it. He's not going to have some big epiphany just because he has terminal cancer.

They all know how valuable it is. They just don't care because they (and their families) will have healthcare no matter what and they want to give billions in tax cuts to the rich. It's a pretty cynical money grab.
