I, too, believe it was Kobe behind the cast changes. Long had introduced Jim Reardon with the intention that he would be part of a love triangle with Hillary and Katie. I remember that being touted in the soap press. But the story never came to pass. I would have hated to see friction between Hillary and Katie over a man, but was disappointed when Hillary and then Katie were both dropped from the show.

I love the extras who’ve appeared over the years, especially Dorothy Butts. But I’m always amused about how busy they are answering the phone during the closing credits when the phone seldom rings during the actual show.

This is what Petronia had to say in a 2011 We Love Soaps interview: I played Jessie Rollins, she was a black doctor and I (originally) was brought on to be the love interest of a white character. But they had another black/white romance on another soap that had not gone well. The woman playing the part, the black actor, had been fired, because people didn't like the story line, so that didn't work out. So, originally, I was brought on for this kind of setup, but somewhere along the way, they realized it wasn't going to go anywhere, maybe because of the other situation, and that was dropped. And I was terribly new, and inexperienced, and not very good at it, and I was let go.

Lemay actually expanded the Perrini family before the show's expansion to 90 minutes in March 1979. Rose and Joey arrived in April 1978, nearly a year before the show's expansion. The family that Lemay expanded in March 1979 were the Simpsons -- Eileen's aunt and uncle Rita and Paul Connelly (a love interest for Rose) and Eileen's brother Morgan (played by Gary Tomlin). Lemay was gone by May 1979. The Perrinis and Simpsons, with the exception of Joey, were all phased out during Tom King/Robert Soderberg's stint. And, no, Cory was never SORASed. I had always hoped Cory would show up, especially during Carmen Duncan's time as Iris. I envisioned him stirring up lots of trouble.

I believe Marland planned an interracial romance for Jessie but it was nixed.

Closeted (gay) actors formerly on the soaps
According to a bio about Dennis Parker, Parker helped get Joey Alan Phipps the role of Kelly on Edge. Parker and Phipps has been lovers at one point. Folks interviewed for the bio said Parker’s past in porn was well known on the set and that Phipps was fired simply because he was not a good fit for the role.

The role of Wendy was recast because they wanted a slightly more mature actress in the role for the Eleanor/Luke/Wendy triangle.

Search For Tomorrow Discussion Thread
David was Dr. David Glenn, portrayed by Jack Betts. Yes, he appeared on the show and was there until the end. As I recollect, when Gary Tomlin was still head writer, he started laying the ground work for David's introduction. It seemed -- to me anyway -- that David had some kind of connection with Jo's past but that angle got dropped. The woman in the commercial. Isn't that Nicolette Goulet? It was definitely Addie Walsh and Pam Long. The episode aired in September 1986. I think Walsh/Long showed up in June/July.

By all means, check out the earliest Retro episodes. Except for a few duds here and there, the show was magical from December 1967 to June 1969 when head writer Rita Lakin departed. Her writing is some of the best I've ever seen.

Soap Opera Cast Lists and Character Guides- Cancelled and Current
How interesting about Kozak. I believe she and Lilly Barnstone appeared in one episode together and then Lacey was written out.

Soap Opera Cast Lists and Character Guides- Cancelled and Current
The Texas cast list is intriguing. It lists Harley Kozak as playing Lacey Wheeler, not Brette Wheeler. I think Harley arrived around November 1981.

I recall that at one point, ABC was toying with its other soaps going to the short arc format -- All My Kids, in particular.

Thank you, Paul. In all my years of lurking and then posting on this board, I've never seen someone so sanctimonious. Why so judgmental, Jarrod? For someone who attacked the members of this board just months ago for being overly critical and negative, you sure seem to love to wallow in negativity.

I believe Joseph Manetta was just an interim head writer for September/October 1986 while Sheri Anderson was still contractually obligated to Days. As for Sally, it was Pam Long who killed off the character around October 1987. I believe it was just as Sally was about to reveal Marah's parentage.

Frank Telfer played Luke the entire time. I think Virginia was written out in 1978.
