Paul's mother Tori is Asian. It has nothing to do with John or his backstory. John isn't biracial. I mean, Paul was a retcon as well since we never saw John's affair with Tori in 1994 ish or whenever, but changing John's parentage wouldn't effect Paul at all. Unless, say, John was actually the real Roman. That would make a lot of things in town quite incestuous though so I don't see that happening. Doug did have a hell of a crazy backstory. I just think John's appeals to all writers because John never regained his memories so he can be (and was) anything.

Tony/Andre is really bad. I am sure other soaps do have awful retcons like this, but not nearly as many. Days seems to have head writers that want to retcon specific stories always and make them their own, so every regime takes on John's backstory or Hope/Gina or Tony/Andre and it will never make sense.

I feel like every writer wants a crack at John's backstory. I don't like where it stands now with the SAW guy being his father. I just don't want to go down that road again. They seriously should have just made him the real Roman years ago (sorry Shawn/Belle) or made him Stefano's son. Those things made sense. Not the Yo Ling and Petrov stole John and brainwashed him to be an assassin.

Agreed. I just felt we were getting some anvils today with the story. I could be wrong, but that was my first thought.

Is Dick Van Dyke John's dad? Are we going down that road again? Good show today overall though. I don't understand why Theresa's appearance got wacky background music when last we heard she was a stable, good mother to Tate and Brady spoke positively of her.

Speaking as someone who was in what you perceive as their target audience a few years ago, Leo and this story is horrible to me. I do think there might be some merit to the notion that Leo's sassy one liners and crazy fashion perhaps appeals to an audience of women who don't know many gay men and want a stereotypical gay bestie, but even that seems like a reach because Leo is an awful person and no amount of Golden Girls jokes will make me relate to him or want to root for him. It's borderline insulting to say that soap is made for 18-34 year old women and that's why it's superficial and juvenile......that's not the case. Ron couldn't be more far off on that. As far as the fact there are more LGBT characters on Days than other soaps may be true, but I don't think that's the point especially when those other characters are barely utilized. This story would not be treated as wacky hijinks if it was about three straight characters. The fact that this story features two gay men is being used as a crutch to make it seem groundbreaking when it's downright awful. I obviously can only speak for myself, but I don't think there is a single sector of the audience that this would appeal to.

Did you? I have never been able to tolerate her. It's a complete overreaction on my part, but she's easily one of my least favorite characters of all time. I hate everything about Gladys. There is not a single redeeming quality in the character. Her name even bothers me lol. I have a hard time watching episodes that include her. I know she's not even near the top of the list of bad characters of all time, but I irrationally hate her.

The fact the show is trying to redeem Gladys actually hurts my soul. I think everyone knows how I feel about Gladys and I knew in my heart one day very soon she'd be gone. Now this? I have lost my faith in GH entirely. There are a lot of GH characters that have continued to exist way after their shelf life has expired. Gladys has had a run about 2 years too long. Does ANYONE like her?

Phillip's plan sounds even more ridiculous when he says it aloud. How one man (with a prosthetic leg no less) could execute this plan single handedly without anyone seeing anything is beyond comprehension-even for Days. I also actively hate how the show is making Body & Soul a thing everyone has enjoyed and watched for years. The Belle/Shawn/Marlena stuff was the best part of the show. Even if Rafe cleans I do think it's pretty rude to continually have sex on a bed both Jada and Talia sleep on. If only Rafe had a house set...oh wait he does. Go there you weirdos!

Kate told her a few weeks ago. When Abe was missing/presumed dead. Paulina brought up Phillip and Kate just told her the truth.

Roman, Lucas, Paulina, and Victor know/knew Phillip was alive. Roman was upset about it briefly, but I think it was resolved within an episode. In my opinion if Roman can get over everything Kate did to Sami, Brady is small potatoes. He should have an issue with it, but at the same time it's not like Brady actually went to jail for it or suffered any real consequences for it. This is something Marlena and especially John should have strong reactions to, but they probably won't.

Yeah, there is no episode up currently. I guess you had to be on the east coast or a super early riser to have seen it lol.

I like JG as Eric at least as much as GV. Whoever on here said that GV's Eric was always morose is right. Not that JG's Eric isn't sad and playing heavy material right now, but he seems like a happier Eric in life if that makes sense. Nicole/AZ is just putting in horrible extensions. I hope she just takes them out because they really make her hair look worse if that's possible. As far EJ/Ava, I just assume that once the show got Steve they re-hired TB for nostalgia or whatever and had to figure out a story for her. I don't think the show really had any plans for Ava to come back this soon. Just my theory, but I think Ava's ending was pretty final.

Thanks! I knew Melinda had a reason, but I could not remember what it was. Honestly, Paulina's only agenda that we know of is opening the bakery. Abe didn't fire her for prosecuting Lani so why would Paulina? It's not like Melinda was wrong. Lani did commit a crime. And I agree with you. Why would getting Li convicted help at all? Paulina doesn't care about Li or Gabi and Stefan. Roman really needs a better reason to hate Sloan outside of chowder. Somedays I get really sad about what the character of Roman has become. It actually is depressing.

Melinda's plan makes absolutely no sense. Less than usual for Days plans. Why would Paulina even want to fire Melinda?

You are right. I think I just saw that headline and was ready for it. It seems strange to give Sloan a miscarriage right now, but in some ways it is typical Days. Now she will never tell Eric the truth because she has no 'leverage' to keep Eric now.

I honestly thought Talia was introduced as a Dr. as a nod to her father. I agree with everyone that Talia doesn't seem like a Dr. She's so insecure and unsure about herself. I know that's part of her abusive past, but I would never trust her to make a split second, lifesaving decision. Why did Sloan stop breathing? That's a lot more serious than just an early term miscarriage. Then in the next scene she was fine, conscious, watching the ultrasound, and not being monitored like she didn't almost die moments ago lol.

At the end of the day it was Suzanne's anniversary and if she didn't want any Marlena/Maggie scenes shown that's her right I guess. I do question the lack of Horton flashbacks and the complete lack of any of her non Sarah children in flashbacks. I suppose it was to follow the shows narrative of Maggie having mourned two husbands, but perhaps the Victor mourning could have been one episode and flashbacks of Maggie's life outside that could have been another. I am no fan of Maggie's but 50 years is a long, long time and it could have had 2 days with her interacting with several cast members reminiscing. ETA-I thoroughly enjoyed the episode, so my complaints are pretty mild on how I think it could have been slightly better. Overall, it was very good.

Idk, it seems really silly that one or both of those ladies would be that petty and still carry a grudge. Regardless of that, I do think there was a way for the show to air flashbacks of Maggie with Marlena, Alice/Tom, other Hortons, her children etc. The show could have said Marlena and John were downstairs without showing them or having them interact with Maggie.

No just rumors. The most widespread have to do with issues of airtime and SR/Maggie's rise to prominence when DH was fired and/or SR was having an affair with DH's ex husband. That latter seems crazy to me, but I have heard it a lot and something clearly serious happened as the show has gone out of their way to avoid Maggie/Marlena having scenes for well over a decade now. They were once very close because she was the only Days actor lucky enough to be in Dee's movie biopic besides Wayne. It's a shame. Marlena and Maggie had some wonderful scenes especially in the 70's and early 80's. It would have been nice to see some of those today.

For me, personally, being without Belle frees Shawn up a lot. Outside of my hatred for MM's Belle, most of Shawn/Belle's stories have revolved around Belle. Belle's affairs, Belle's feelings about Jan, Belle's feelings for Phillip, Belle being possessed, etc. etc.. Shawn gets very little point of view and he will finally get his chance without being Ken to Belle's Barbie. I don't think BB is the greatest actor, but he's much less grating than Belle. They can be endgame-it's fine. There is just a solid oppurtunity to explore Shawn so I am sure the show won't take it and show him once a month.

Same. I think BB and NL are on good terms though. I remember the show teasing it with Cook back in the day, but it would be a very realistic pairing unlike her pairing with Xander.

Nice episode and lovely tribute to Maggie/SR. I actually wish there were more flashbacks with her children and maybe a few with the Hortons and Marlena since that was a strong friendship, but that's nit picking. @AbcNbc247As far as Shawn, I can see him having a strong place on the canvas without Belle honestly. Shawn's downward spiral pushes Belle away and it actually opens him up to being paired with other actresses in his age range and there are quite a few. I think he would be interesting with Jada or Sloan when the Eric thing implodes. But Belle/Shawn always should have had a strong place on the canvas, so it probably won't happen.
