Gather yourselves, it's about the students. My mother used to be a teacher, my brother is a teacher and my uncle is a teacher- I told them about this and they suggested that these teachers are in the wrong profession, which was in my first thought. Yes, be upset, after you've intervened to help the students. These kids will remember this for a long time, perhaps a lifetime and it won't be long until they start wondering why the teachers just left them there to fend for themselves in a classroom. WTF.

That's pretty clever because looking back on scenes like this, one can make a case that the seeds were planted and ready to be cultivated. Lily was already somewhat fragile by Martin Guest's suicide, but with Guest dead and buried, they'd likely needed something else to play off in regards to the rocky mother/daughter dynamic.

Also, who/where were these teachers? Why didn't they stop this? I would've immediate told this man to get out of my classroom.

This actually doesn't surprise me, for many reasons. As BHM with Trump in the White House concludes (I pray for the last time), I come across news items like these, which should be a reminder to folks that racism does indeed still exist and there is a distinct difference between prejudice and racism. Racism is when a person in power (such as a college/university recruiter) uses his position to degrade and deny opportunities (such as jobs, housing, college acceptance) to people based on skin color and hair texture. Exhibit A.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
There were rumors that Tony Todd would make a cameo but either those rumors are untrue or it's being kept a closely guarded secret?

I really hope that this isn't true. And with such an idiot in the White House...it's enough to cause one to shudder.

I suspect that the Bernie Bros are losing their sh*t over this one, lol. They were already bringing out the "low-information voter" trope that Bernie trotted out during the 2016 primaries. 'Low information' being dog-whistle code for 'blacks in the South'. I haven't checked the results so I have no idea how the candidates placed other than Biden placing first.

LOL, Nathan Lane in that Cheetos commercial (18:00), on the March 2, 1984 episode. And that awkward dinner party with John's reaction to drinking wine, lol. The music cues haven't aged very well. Nevermind that it's obvious that TPTB were determined to use that Giorgio Moroder music as often as possible but that weird music cue when Margo tells Lyla about Craig's involvement with the fire right before commercial break. Whatever happened to The Refuge? Ironically, (or not) another one of Steve's buildings would go up in flames a few short years later, the house at Ruxton Hills. EDT. That November 1984 episode was compelling, from start to finish. I don't remember ever seeing that episode, perhaps a few courtroom clips. The sound mixing could have been better. I'm glad that someone decided to take it down a bit in terms of the thunder in the courtroom scenes because the loudness of the thunder was really distracting, although I wished someone had thought to do the same with the sound mixing during the Lucinda and Lily scenes where the sounds of thunder were still entirely too loud. I appreciated the juxtaposition of the elation of Steve and Betsy and Maggie and Frank at Maggie winning her case and Steve's case being dismissed with the anguish in the McColls and Connors families. It's downright ironic that Lucinda is the one urging Lily never to keep secrets. I wonder how far ahead did Elizabeth Hubbard know that Lily was adopted. Did she yet know in those scenes with Lucy Deakins?

I just realized that Craig spent a whole lotta time in the hospital between the years of 1984-1987. I spent at least a full day or two in the hospital every year between 1984-1987! That situation between Lyla, Frank and Maggie seems deeply messy. I was very distracted by the music in the restaurant/cafe, was that a Sheena Easton song? Thanks @victoria foxton these don't look like they've ever been uploaded to YouTube before! At least, not that I've seen.

That did cross my mind more than once as I listened to the podcast, especially as she mentioned that her husband commented that she couldn't honestly go back to that place after. If not her, I'm sure there has to be some #MeToo stories in daytime soaps. Surprised we've only heard one or two accounts. And harassment is not always physical, it can be emotional and psychological. It is an abuse of power and at the risk of reading too much into a podcast, given what we've heard about Goutman, he definitely fits the profile of someone who lorded and abused his power over others, namely actors who he probably considered subordinate to him.

And he strikes me as the type who would use manipulation and psychological warfare to try to bring "talent" "to heel", especially someone who he thinks is asserting his or her value like a confident vet might wont to do (common in contract negotiations). I could see Goutman regarding the "talent" as being 'uppity' or acting above their station. Goutman comes from a director background, and I don't know how many people have worked with directors, especially the ones behind the screen (as opposed to the stage where the dynamic is vastly different) but screen directors are known to have huge egos and tend to exercise them and the worst of the bunch tend to lord their authority over 'the talent'.

Oh, Goutman's over-inflated ego and reputation is well documented but it seems as though he said/did something that went beyond the pale because Byrne mentioned that what began as a contract dispute morphed into a situation that made it impossible for her to return to the show as long as he was there. It's just striking how, as she talked about (even by her own words she described her words as being "cryptic") her leaving, even though she was trying to keep her emotions contained and was mostly successful at it, one could still hear the emotions bubbling under the surface. I was surprised at how, even after a decade, you could tell how deeply she still felt affected by it. Also, I found it very interesting that with other actors on the show who had felt offended by Goutman (Scott Bryce and Eileen Fulton), they were very specific in offering details about what happened (Scott's firing and Eileen's marginalization) but Martha made it a point to offer only vague but pointed remarks as if she really wanted to talk about it but felt the specifics would be better left unsaid. Whatever it was, I suspect it was something more than just garden-variety disregard.

I just finished listening and that was so funny that Lucy Deakins got the part over her for two roles! Byrne also auditioned for The Boy Who Could Fly from what I heard in the podcast. Interesting how she said that Marland originally wanted Holden and Emily to be the "it" couple before seeing Martha and Jon interact in story. She confirmed what I always suspected with Marland that he placed characters/actors in positions and made decisions based on how they interacted with one another. You can literally see this happening with the case of Frannie and Casey and Lyla scenes. I'd love to hear podcasts with other former actors from the show to get their take on whether they believed their characters were going in one direction and then started to turn in another direction when it came to a pairing. That stuff about Shannon briefly being considered for Lily's mother is kind of wild but from what I remember, Shannon was pretty thick with Dusty and Lily and had some brief intrigue with Lucinda but ended being a red herring in the mystery of who was responsible for the mysterious phone calls to Lucinda. I am now more curious than ever as to what specifically happened that made Bryne feel as if the situation at ATWT was so untenable that she gave them the deuces once and for all. It really sounds bad.

Gayle has been too long doing the newsmagazine gig, her journalistic instincts have dulled but Isn't Nora O'Donnell supposed to be the hard-boiled newsperson? Isn't she on the evening news? I can't think of one debate this season where the moderators truly asked pertinent questions that led to any enlightening moments. Just a grab-bag of mostly messy made-for-TV moments. Something that should be concern for those who care, Apparently South Carolina allows 'open primaries' so a number of Republicans claim that they plan to vote in the Democratic primary just to vote for Bernie Sanders. Not good. Yes, and it is most definitely because Republicans believe that Trump would be Bernie.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Interesting but I was thinking more along the lines of a TV/streaming show, not a podcast. Something like Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee maybe even go to other parts of the world and talk to former child stars there. I remember Netflix had a documentary on a group of South America's most famous child stars who were in a music group and searched to find out out what happened to them. I mentioned Culkin because of his status of one of the world's most famous child stars at one time and the fact that, from an interview with him that I recently read, he's obviously still processing what that all meant. JMO but it could be fascinating to see him connect and interview others who were once in a similar position.- Y&R: Old Articles
While watching another clip on this particular YouTube channel, I came across this one with Nick Scotti, where he is a guest host on Fox After Breakfast (ironically, a show I have some past knowledge of) where he talks about his then new movie Kiss Me Guido, among other topics and mentions his Y&R days. What a beautiful man. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB321HgD2u4- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
I agree with all of this. And facing the possibility of going to prison for life is legit something to cry about. If American Psycho had been written and adapted into a film the early 80s, Bryce would've been perfect for that Christian Bale role, 😬 Am I the only one who is curious about what happened to the child actor who played Andy in this episode? Macaulay Culkin is doing all of these podcasts about all these random topics but what he needs to be doing is hosting a show looking for what happened to these various child actors, from the well known to the obscure. Kind of like a Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee type of series but with former child stars.- The Politics Thread
