  1. If this is truly the case, I hope Senate Democrats run right over Mitch McConnell on the way to get the infrastructure bill done. It would serve 'ole Mitch right after he has stood in the way of progress and tried to block anything good from happening for the better part of a decade. Maybe, just maybe Democrats will be able to show him that his deliberate inaction as an act of sabotage will have consequences that will impact him and his cronies negatively. I hope he gets severely outmaneuvered.
  2. From what I saw of the writing, it showed that he didn't want to write for them, although I know that the Rosales family were her pet project and it was obviously a vanity project. If McDaniel were genuine about integrating a Latino family into the landscape in a way that made sense, instead of shoehorning her wish-list and redesigning the show's DNA, she could have easily picked up on a different branch of the Raul Gutierrez family (they wouldn't have even have had to change the name, could have kept it Rosales). And actually used Raul for more than a cameo when he appeared on the show for the anniversary episodes. He could have ushered in the family, which could have eased the way of the characters and actors, but I guess it was not as showy as that photoshoot.🥴
  3. Remember when "Lane" fanatics practically ran a campaign to drive the character off the show? There have been some characters that I never could stand, but I still can't grasp the idea of trying to force an actor out of a job unless they'd done something unconscionable. Coming from the U.K., one would think that Mal would've seen the value of having a South Asian character, even a family on a soap, since shows like Eastenders, no doubt, benefited from having South Asian characters on that show. Mal Young was passive aggressive AF when it came to writing non-white characters.
  4. That is just all types of messy! Y&R wished they could get Keith David, lol. Seriously, with so-called soap bloggers putting out this level of sloppy copy, it's no wonder this genre has fallen so hard.
  5. Maybe because it was the absence of diverse characters (not just based on the lack of characters of color, but also lack of diversity of ethnicity, country of origin, socio-economic standing, etc. that inspired me to become a writer. When you are a writer, as well as a "double minority" (Black, woman), it is impossible for these things to escape your attention, from a creative P.O.V. Other soaps have had and still have, obvious issues with writing for Black characters but I pointed out Y&R because it not only has many examples in which to draw from (some of which were praiseworthy, and some disappointing, as I have stated) but Y&R was also an "auteur" created/driven soap for much of it's run. What I mean by that, is that, unlike many other soaps, which, at various times in their runs, had a cycle of various HW and show-runners who were not directly connected to the show's creator. Y&R and AMC were like this and only recently has Y&R become a soap in which the headwriter is not directly connected to W.J. Bell, or the Bell family. Y&R stood out, in that respect, as a daytime soap that had a particular autonomy from network "interference" in decision-making that perhaps, other daytime soaps may not have had. It's like that phrase, "Heavy lies the head that wears the crown" and has the number one daytime soap for decades, Y&R has held that crown/responsibility. That's why I specifically cited them. When a show cites how many NAACP Image awards they have received, I don't think it's unreasonable to take a granular level look at how they present their characterizations of their characters of color.
  6. Because P&G is pettier than Irna Phillips was. Phillips likely would sold a bigger rotation of box sets and collections.
  7. After Republicans squawking about the fencing around the Capitol building and just as parts of it were coming down, this ramming event occurs. There have been incidents on White House property, but it seems as though the Capitol has become a magnet for these unhinged people.
  8. There are surprisingly few April 2nd episodes uploaded to YT. I was searching for the 1987 episode, and only the 1997 episode turned up. Other than the Nikki/Ryder conflict with Hal and Jack's jailhouse visit to Lily, the episode seemed somewhat dull for an episode airing on the show's anniversary. I know that not every year can feature a party but this one seemed so bland. Even Margo's psychotic break in the garishly lit boutique was like, meh. Another strange but interesting marker... A hair color commercial featuring an almost completely blonde Noelle Beck.
  9. This is also important to remember, as I have often had to abstain from revisiting these traumatic images. The media has often stepped over the line from information to indulgence in trauma porn, imo. n
  10. One of the reasons why I think Prinz has remained so sharp is because she has continued to do theater. It's really hard to become inert when performing on a NYC stage. It's also one reason why I don't really see her on a soap except for brief periods of time, she'd become bored, especially the way daytime soaps have stuck in the last 20 years. Still, ATWT should've at least asked and gave her the first right of refusal but as I have long said, the last decade of the show was very poor, especially the decisions that were made BTS, so I wouldn't even expect them to remember that Bob had siblings.
  11. This may have been posted here before but somehow I don't remember seeing it so maybe someone else hasn't seen it yet either.
  12. In some countries, this conversation has been happening before Harry even started dating Meghan, by the way. Barbados has removed the Queen as their country's sovereign, wish other island-nations would do the same.
  13. That's one way to make use of an empty Macy's, I guess. My only question is if there were no Covid-19, would officials have detected the PCBs in the school building and soil?
  14. This doesn't deserve space in the Politics Thread, is notable nonetheless. It probably should have gone in the Hollywood harassment thread but eh, he's got so many cases against him that don't classify as Hollywood, it almost matters little where these awful news items are placed.
  15. Seems that those QAnon crazies are disappointed that no instances of child trafficking (or human trafficking of any kind) were found on the EverGiven container ship. What depraved people. Speaking of depraved people, another Republican touts initiatives that he voted against. And gets lots of pushback for it on Twitter.
  16. And Sharon Collins, on Y&R. Personally, I think it has rarely been employed well as a device. ATWT was particularly dumb, since we have actual scenes of Iva insisting that she could clearly recall every detail of giving birth to Lily. At least with Sharon, the specifics of her giving birth were never clarified in detail, so it didn't look as idiotic when TPTB attempted to rewrite the story.
  17. Seeing Iva tell Lucinda that she can remember the day and the hour she gave birth to Lily makes it even dumber that there was ever a Rose. The reason why Iva failed to remember she had two whole babies was absurd.
  18. The Lost Boys have some muthaf*ckin variety to their games (and the charisma to go with it), at least. Many of the NextGeners don't hold my interest.
  19. And CBS dumped ATWT for this?! I thought about bumping that article to the next page with a quote post but the less I have to look at Sharon's botched plastic surgery, the better off I'll be.
  20. Unfortunately, I don't think those episodes are on YouTube. If they are, I have yet to see them. There may a very short part of a scene when it's mentioned that Barbara had confessed to Kim and Bob about her part in driving a wedge between Tom and Margo. There are many pivotal scenes missing from YouTube.
  21. Sorry but there's no earthly way that Holmes and Dolan could've pulled off the sexiness that either Colin and Deas or Bailey and Marx portrayed. No disrespect intended, but no one will ever convince me otherwise. Dolan was perfect for the matriarchal role that she portrayed as Maureen Bauer but she bears no resemblance in mannerisms or characteristics to either Colin or Bailey-Smith. I don't think it's just the writing, although I do think the writing eventually was adjusted to suit Holmes and Dolan's perceived strengths.
  22. Believe it or not, I thought about this a few times and after watching one of the reunion livestreams last year, and hearing Gregg Marx say that Marland offered to hold his role open for him for nearly a year, in case Marx changed his mind and elected to return, I can only think that it may have been a combination of factors-- one big one, perhaps being that Marland was pressured to fill the role quickly, after leaving it vacant for so long. Another factor that I thought of was actor availability. Perhaps the top choices were all booked, and SH was available and seemed to have relatively decent chemistry with HBS, his on-screen wife Margo? So, perhaps he seemed to be a serviceable choice at the time. Something else that came to mind when Gregg Marx was talking about how unusual Marland's offer was- Marland may simply have decided that he wasn't going to find another available actor with the same appeal and chemistry that Marx had in the role, so he may have decided to just take the character in a completely different direction, personality and temperament-wise. And it seems somewhat evident when you consider how quickly Tom and Margo slid into the role of a middle aged, more settled couple after ED settled into the role of Margo. Soon after, Tom and Margo ceased to be that fiery couple, full of passion and pathos that they had been in the previous decade. For me, it was definitely a come down.
  23. Barbara Ryan and Lucinda Walsh (ATWT) The richest woman in Oakdale, Lucinda, a business mogul started out as a mentor to Barbara Ryan, who was building a fashion/design empire. The two also became the proverbial thick as thieves duo who wreaked havoc on a number of unsuspecting residents of the town. Then Barbara became the prime suspect in the apparent murder of her ex-husband and Lucinda offered to take Barbara's soon to be struggling company under the Walsh Enterprises umbrella until Barbara was released from prison. Unfortunately, Lucinda decided that she wanted to keep "Simply Barbara", which, was generating surprisingly robust profits and when Barbara's fiance, a detective, managed to clear her name, found she couldn't get her company back, as it was now folded into W.E. To add insult to injury, Lucinda wanted Barbara to work for her, which set off animus between the two, especially when Barbara decided to start a new fashion design company, Barbara Ryan Originals (B.R.O.) with the intent of destroying "Simply Barbara". Later in their history, they would come to a detente and when each was diagnosed with cancer, one would comfort the other but they did clash more than once.
