The Tennis Thread
It is way too early to tell what type of player Alcaraz is going to ultimately be, whether exceptional or mediocre. For crying out loud, he's 18, his physique has not even developed yet. We don't know what his agility or speed or resilience will be as his body changes, which can affect a player's career as much, or more than talent. Tiafoe got to the final of Estoril a few years ago, so I wouldn't dismiss him as some 'tomato can'. I wish he had stayed under Higueras' tutelage a little while longer though, because I thought Higueras made a great difference in Tiafoe's game, particularly on clay. Good for Pavs. I don't know what to make of her career overall, but I wouldn't count her out because every now and then she shows signs that she could have a big breakthrough. And let's face it, on the WTA side, anything can happen these days.

Thank you for your service 💕. Your participation helps all of us because your feedback is truly the public's first line of defense. I hope that all of these vaccine manufacturers live up to the trust that you, as well as the public (myself included) are placing in all of them. You are participating in good faith and you definitely have my appreciation. Also, guys...I got my first dose.

From Spears' comments, it appears that she finds these documentaries as intrusive and exploitative as the tabloids.

When I first heard that Johnson & Johnson was getting into the business of making vaccines, I was wary. Very wary. Disclosure: a few years ago, I was asked to participate in this opinion survey/focus group, ostensibly given by some PR organization. There was a list of companies and supposedly, I had been chosen "at random" 🧐😏 to give feedback on J&J. One of my comments was that I did not trust the company mainly because of their talc scandal and the fact that they had done so much to cover the dangerous effects of their product. About a year later, I read that Johnson and Johnson is working on a vaccine. I had hoped they wouldn't get government approval, but unfortunately they did. And here we are.- The Media/Journalism Thread
What about an "Eat The Rich" rally? Bezos would probably hate that though. With him stepping down from his position at Amazon, I suppose he will have more time to pronounce edicts to be made into memos like this.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
Fast Girls and Kidulthood are two films that I always meant to watch but never did. I am unfamiliar with this actor, as I cannot claim to have seen anything he has been in. That being said, I hope a thorough investigation will be conducted and justice will be done. Society has a huge problem in the way it allows some people to engage in reprehensible behavior, while others are left to suffer inequity and mistreatment. There must be a way to make wholesale, meaningful change for the better, while not losing sight of individuals at the root of these issues. I personally am tired of it, I want it fixed for the better. It's kept too many people with massive potential in the shadows, making do with less while horrible people seem to thrive.- Y&R: Old Articles

Measles would not have made such a big comeback over the last decade and a half, if not for the anti-vaxx crusaders, imo, so sadly, it appears that a significant number of people will not get vaccinated, no matter what- the article cites those who will use the lack of herd immunity as an excuse to chuck it all and claim the vaccines are ineffective. I wish that the message if herd immunity had never entered the public consciousness in the first place. Health officials should have kept it relatively simple and emphasized the benefit of not getting violently ill, being hospitalized or dying as benefits of full vaccination as the most important aspect. The U.S. is not New Zealand, herd immunity was always going to be an illusion. The whole argument of anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists is that "you can't trust the government". Why give them more aspects in which to cling to their conspiracy theories?- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
Herd immunity was always a dubious target, I always believed this, especially as much of the U.S. never fully committed to the type of lockdown strategy that New Zealand, Taiwan, Australia, or even Vietnam had committed to. I also think it is preposterous to believe that the U.S. can be protected from Covid-19 when surrounded by a region still in thrall to the virus.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread

Very sad news about Ms. Rapelye. Sadly, there aren't even many episodes of Maggie Crawford on YouTube, just a handful, it seems. Interesting that, just a few weeks ago, some were complaining about there being too many characters on ATWT around the time she was on. Has anyone considered the possibility that P&G wanted the cast trimmed? P&G is one of the most cost-conscious companies out there.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
A few reasons, really. The top reason is that ATWT was a steady gig for almost two decades, in a very uncertain profession, (especially for Black women) provided some security. Also, as a producer, she might have frequently had to chip in her own money, if unable to raise it all from outside sources. Having money in your bank account can really help in that matter. For example, she was one of the producers of the musical "Spring Awakening", which later went to Broadway and became something of a hit, she likely got her return of investment (ROI), but that's a scenario that is far from guaranteed as most productions either barely break even or lose money. I think having a steady stream of income likely allowed her to produce/invest in the projects that she truly wanted to invest in (which may be risky), rather than just going for those that are perceived as the "safe bet", yet something she may feel no passion for producing. Of course, we know that in the final years of the show, TT went to L&O, because she was under-utilized at ATWT and L&O offered to make her a cast "regular". Smart move on Tunie's part, as it was likely better pay for less work.- Janet Jackson Appreciation Thread
It was a rhetorical question, more than anything else.- Janet Jackson Appreciation Thread
An often drugged up Robert Downey Jr. once passed out in a little girl's bed, nearly scaring the entire life out of the girl's mother. This was before he went to prison, but in the midst of him becoming practically uninsurable from previous narcotics binges. (film production companies and studios had to pay out of their personal accounts-then unheard of- just to insure him as he was deemed 'untouchable' by any insurance company and actors on sets run by major studios and production companies were not allowed to work uninsured, so he actually cost the studios extra expenses). I am not citing this to belittle or dehumanize Robert Downey Jr., but to state that the only time his career even slowed down was when he was doing time in prison. And, People have made much worse personal/professional choices than Janet Jackson, yet never suffered the damage to their careers that she suffered. I don't think I need to state why this is the case as I believe it is fairly obvious. Again, I am not casting aspersions on RDJ but his career was only ever stopped when he went to prison, which he admitted likely "saved his life". And the moment he was released, he resumed his career immediately. Why are folks holding Janet Jackson to a higher standard than Robert Downey Jr.? On what criteria? I am interested in knowing? Thoughts?- ALL: Characters with “Inappropriate” Sexual Chemistry
The last time "Daniel" appeared on the scene was when GT portrayed Phyllis, right? Now that Lily is a divorcee and because he and CG displayed genuine chemistry, it could be a good idea for Graziadei/Daniel to do even a brief story arc. From what I am reading, it sounds like the show could use some diversion. Then again, I don't believe that JG could pull it off, even for a brief story arc.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
That was one of my favorites. The love and respect was genuine. I felt as if those three were to reprise their roles with a decent script, it would be as if no time had passed. I was actually hoping that Alan (or some capable host) would make good on that promise to bring them back with Anne.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
It is fascinating, lol. The part with Anne Award, seems like a function of just how disjointed and dysfunctional the show had become in its last 12 or so years. I did notice during one of the GL reunion livestreams that ED kind of seemed a bit like the 'odd one out' in some of the discussions, which made me question if she had left by the time many of the other castmembers had arrived in the show. I had only caught a bit of the end of her run on GL, and then some on YT, so I was surprised to find out that she had been in the show with quite a few of the other actors since she seemed a bit distant. I don't know, maybe she's just one of those people who do the job and go home-- not really there to make friends? 🤷🏾♀️ Come to think about it, ED was in ATWT since 89 and AS left sometime in the early 90s? Colleagues have bonded in less time. Maybe it's just how ED is personality-wise. - Y&R May 2021 Discussion Thread
