  1. Which is why I said they'd be better off streaming the classic episodes, like B&B is doing. I had never seen one episode of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, Dark Shadows or The Doctors until they were in second or third runs on television. Don't tell me people can latch onto a series after the fact. Just stream classic episodes and see where they land. Very little risk. Folks, including soap fans are making things too complicated and there is a distinct lack of imagination that keeps the genre mired in a vicious cycle. It's not that complicated. There's a reason why I Love Lucy still has a fan base but the original The Goldbergs is lost and forgotten to time. It's simpler than you think it is.l but the companies will have you think it's not.
  2. Great, now they need to upload five more episodes for the holiday weekend, like today. Those of you who put the vault together, pat yourselves on the back, because you all are likely the reason why B&B decided to do this.
  3. Too bad Anisimova couldn't steal that tiebreaker from wooden Pliskova. That was a high-quality match and much of it had to do with Anisimova and the response of the crowd, because Pliskova gives nothing--great for her personally, not so great for viewers at home or ratings for tennis.
  4. There is a two-fold issue, problem, more like, to the reboot of a classic soap and I am going to specifically talk about classic daytime serial dramas, as I believe they are structured very differently than a classic primetime serial drama. One problem has to do with expectations. Long time fans often want things to be exactly the way they were when they loved these daytime soaps the most and some of that won't be possible. In some regards, one has to adopt a contemporary sensibility. Some of the things that fans loved in the 80s (rapists turned romantic leading men, for example) is an awful idea, especially in the wake of #MeToo (although, if we're truly being honest, it was always a terribly toxic idea). I wouldn't want to revive such a character on any reboot but I know that if there were an immensely popular character on a show (e.g. Todd Manning/OLTL) fans would be clamoring for him. In my view, the only way to bring such a character back would be as a pariah, haunted by his past misdeeds. The fans wouldn't like it but without that there is no chance to capture the new fans that such a reboot would certainly need in order to be worthy of maintaining production--no producers want to lose money). FWIW, I think soap fans are much more open-minded, in terms of changes to their favorite classic soaps today than they were with the TOLN/PP soaps when they streamed about 7 years ago. The other issue is reluctance, bordering on belligerence of the holders of these classic properties to treat them with the respect due to classic television (on this board, we've already discussed some of the reasons why they've had this attitude). That includes lack of regard and lack of care of their classic episodes, which are being housed in God knows what conditions! I agree that, one of the best ways that producers of classic soaps, like P&G could get a read on whether a reboot could work would be to reissue or stream episodes of their classic soaps, which is why I am so dismayed by the piss-poor state of many of the episodes and clips on YouTube as well as the infighting between uploader account holders on that platform. These uploaders should put aside egos, greed, envy, selfishness and whatever other deadly sins they may have, in service of the community and build a video library of the best quality episodes and clips, like what fans of Y&R and B&B have already been doing. If you add up all the streams, clicks on the various P&G dramas-relates YouTube channels, the number of views could likely add up to some serious numbers but having a scatter shot assortment of channels with double-digit views won't convince any would-be producers to take a chance on rebooting a classic daytime soap opera. As much as I criticize The Bold And The Beautiful for their upload schedule for their classic episodes in YouTube, at least they are putting up episodes, which means they, on some level, recognize the show's value. It's also likely that their spies 👀 know about the "vault" and recognize the interest that has already been there in classic B&B episodes and decided to finally try to capitalize on that interest for their own benefit. The clicks, the views and the subscriptions to their YouTube channel leads to $$$ and possibly, more sponsors. It is a low-risk, relatively low-cost investment with the possibility of a sizeable reward. It might be more challenging for P&G soaps since there are no P&G soap currently still on air, but fans, particularly collectors would be wise to get together and collectively build their own "vault" and see whether it inspires the interest of a P&G or another SoapClassics type entity to revive some soaps, whether a reboot or a reissue of their classic titles.
  5. Hope springs eternal, I'm seeing, despite the fact that JG has done absolutely nothing to earn this level of trust. Robert Adamson seems like an affable, likeable guy who was really miscast in the role. Someone said that he should have been cast as Lauren and Scott's son and I tend to agree. Having RA cast as Scottie would have solved a lot of characterization and storyline problems, including lack of story for Lauren and the fact that the best onscreen chemistry Mariah has had (other than her all too brief interaction with Daniel Romalotti) is with her onscreen brother Noah. It was a dual problem of terrible casting, but you still have to have competent writing, which Y&R hasn't had in almost 15 years.
  6. I wonder what Brian Bloom's residual payments amount to every time Once Upon A Time In America streams on Netflix?
  7. In a world where so many countries are scrambling to secure enough vaccines for their people, this is unconscionable.
  8. A warning that this report may be triggering, so please keep this in mind, as to whether you want to listen to the details included in this summary of court room testimony. Also of note, the first man to accuse Kelly of sexual abuse came forward to present testimony several days ago.
  9. No worries, @Faulkner I'm passionate but I don't take these things personally... anymore, lol. When the WS' on court careers were at their heights, it was a different story, lol. For me, it's the media's infantilism of Novak, as if he is someone who lacks agency. I realize that they are grasping for any type of narrative that feels familiar, since, with so many of the players they usually talk about ad nauseam aren't here, they can't access the usual storylines (as tired as those ones were), and they are fearful of exploring the Zverev, Basilashvili and DV aspects, so they jump on the same trope. It's probably making me a bit cantankerous because it's just tired. It's not going to impact Djokovic's on court goals in any way, it never has.
  10. Something to do, other than each other? Kidding.
  11. The irony of people speaking of Afghan women and their dystopian future with pity when Roe v. Wade has been in peril for years.
  12. And so did Roberta Vinci, and Bethanie Mattek-Sands several rounds before her. I remember, lol. There was plenty of cheering for her opponents.
  13. Sorry but not even remotely the same thing. Serena is American, the USO is her "home" tournament. That would be like Novak not getting any regard in Serbia. By the way, Venus got some of that same low-key hostile reception at the USO (it's pretty obvious why). In a match against Mauresmo, Martina Navratilova once remarked how strange it was to her that the spectators appeared to be cheering for the Frenchwoman over the American (Venus). When the Williams went to other countries to play they often got high-key hostile receptions but it wasn't talked about. Both were booed in Paris. There was the one time Serena broke down during her match against Henin. Other than that, you didn't hear them whine about it, and the press and commentators certainly never pondered it the way they did with Novak. Serena got support because all the Great White Hopes that the tennis media had hoped would supplant her (including Sharapova) never did. People comparing Novak to Serena, someone who got actual death threats seems tiresome and disingenuous. So what if the NYC crowd doesn't like him. He's beloved in Serbia, nobody's pouring out racist vitriol about him in his home country, isn't that what counts? EDT: The Isner-Monfils match doesn't compare, any more than the Novak in NYC situation. Isn't has never been close to being #1. Both Williams Sisters had already been #1s and brought in massive television ratings, so much so that CBS made their first final a prime-time match but they were still getting hostility and poor court assignments pretty deep in their careers.
  14. Yes, I dug up this post because I knew Welteroth wouldn't stay for long. She's had a respectable career, why would she throw away what she'd worked so hard to build?
  15. If only Steve Kent were next, but that would mean Sony actually cared about Y&R.
  16. Apparently, Stefanos dragged Novak into the whole kerfuffle, saying he learned to take strategic bathroom breaks from Djokovic.😂
  17. Is Aga still getting fillers? She looks much older than the last time I saw her.
  18. Not to make this an East Coast soaps vs. West Coast soaps thing, but I have noticed that many of the actresses who have had noticeable work done have been on West Coast based soaps. Many of the actresses, especially those over 40s have been allowing themselves to age more gracefully. Of course, they care and take care of themselves but they seem more likely to still resemble themselves, just a bit older than when we last saw them, rather than drastic, unrecognizable changes.
  19. I agree. If he doesn't do right by Days, the fans will likely savage him but that's none of my concern.
  20. Considering the fact that perennial fu*ck ups like JG get multiple chances to screw up soaps, why should Giddens get any less of an opportunity, lol? That's not love, not from me, it's not. It's just the current reality of the situation. Very few writers actually want to write for these soaps these days. At least it's somebody who hasn't been on the soap merry go round for decades and ruining shows.🤷🏾‍♀️
  21. What personalities are they working with??? The ones who win the most lack them and the ones who do have attractive personalities don't consistently win enough. Also, matches are not being televised on regular broadcast television nearly enough, so people have to make efforts to actually find these matches (assuming they want to pay for TC, TC+, ESPN, ESPN+. Not enough people want to pay for all these subscriptions strictly to watch tennis when they can subscribe to Disney+ and HBO Max and Netflix and get first run movies that everyone is talking about. Tennis folks just don't get how any of this works. When you imply that one of your most attention-grabbing players is lazy, how will that draw view new viewers? Nothing against a player who just puts her head down and "goes to work" and plays matches, but how does this draw in viewers? Folks forget that sports are supposed to be entertainment. Yes, tennis needs to promote players other than stars, but let's be real, in the early days of their career, nobody was promoting Venus and Serena except their father, Richard Williams. Only hardcore tennis fans knew who Roger Federer was until he upset Pete Sampras at Wimbledon. And most people outside tennis knew little about Rafael Nadal until that long+@ss match where he beat Federer at Wimbledon in darkness, with only television cameras to light the courts. Tennis matches need to be back on regular television where you can watch a match with a regular ole' antenna, even a half dozen matches per year on CBS, NBC and ABC could make a big difference. When even PGA/LPGA has more matches on CBS than tennis, you know there's a problem.
  22. Oof, couldn't be me.😩😬 BJ was such a forgettable character. Although I was too young to really 'take in' the stories before 1983-ish, familiarizing myself with some 1981 characters via YouTube (what little there is from that era) over the past few years, the closest I can think of the 2005 era-type character where a BJ could exist is the era where a Brad Hollister existed, and even Brad was anchored to other ATWT characteristics who were actually worth watching.
  23. Speaking of getting crushed... US Open not doing well with admissions. Ticket prices are rock bottom, as low as $6!! After a year of no spectators allowed, I guess it's not exactly a stampede for seats. US Open better start preparing for the next phase of the ATP/WTA Tours without the mega-stars that guarantee butts in seats.
  24. She really looks great. As glam as Lisa is, Eileen is very down to earth. Beautiful. As for the last several years of that show, y'all know how I feel...that show wasn't even As The World Turns, more like the show formerly known as...
