Guiding light alum joins YR
Not with the terrible writing on these soaps these days! I think I'm gonna make a GIF of that scene where Emily props up her feet on Tonio's desk after she outmaneuvered him out of M&A. That was a great sequence.

Just turned him down, nbd. Then again, plenty others said no before they acquiesced, usually after some arm twisting by other former cast mates. I just prefer the idea of those who worked closest with her doing the actual virtual honors. Hillary Bailey kind of took over during her virtual ATWT reunion and it saved Alan who was fumbling. She might as well have been running the show.

Guiding light alum joins YR
Robert Newman alongside a...Newman? Trying to picture them as a couple, stranger things have happened, I guess. Good for him securing a paycheck. Maybe the CBS soaps have decided that they've scooped up enough ABC daytime soap actors and are now digging in the P&G crates?

The US Open is trending for some odd reason. I can't be bothered to find out what it's for.

Tennis Australia. TA is similar to the USTA (United States Tennis Association), except TA is way more engaged and active, from what I have seen.

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
I knew what Nixon was talking about, but only because I already knew where she stood on the issue of schools and COVID-19 protocols. Most parents of color feel similarly, by the way. In fact, NYC parents of color are mostly I'm favor of remote schooling until there are better safeguards, like proper air filtration and ventilation, smaller numbers of students in classes, for better social distancing and higher degree of vigilance concerning mask wearing. IMO, schools should at least revert back to staggered schedules until the numbers go down.

The Politics Thread
It almost mirrors the tragedy of what happened in Philadelphia over a week ago. Public housing, (like nursing homes) in the U.S. is a dystopian shambles. I did read about Gropper, who co-founded the Camber Property Group which is part of a group of investors who bought the property in 2019. If Adams has sense, he will make sure that Gropper doesn't carry over to his administration. The Bronx is the poorest borough in NYC and is continually ignored and deprived for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I remember the tragedy of the Happy Land Social Club fire. In 2013, there was a pretty devastating fire as well. That turned out to have been started by a child playing with a stove, sadly. In this case, it may have been a combination of neglect (the building, an eyesore behemoth, was built in 1972) with the doors that don't automatically swing closed and an active fire alarm system that residents came to ignore, so when the alarms went off this, perhaps no one reacted right away. Sadly, the residents of public housing in the Bronx are saddled with public housing that is often terrible and it's been going on for decades. With this tragedy happening right at the start of Adams's term as mayor, it will be next to impossible to ignore this, the way his predecessors have.

B&B: Bold from the beginning
The actor who portrayed Caroline's rapist also did a stint on Y&R. Brooke entered vixen territory at this point. Pretty early on in the series. Evidence of the WGA strike is really apparent throughout quite a bit of Season 2. There were moments of filler in the first season but in Season 2, you can see entire episodes chock full of filler, with flashbacks galore.

Will it work? Who knows but BBB is in desperate need of some sort of breakthrough to passage.- Fresh Prince of Bel-Air rebooted as drama
It's not going to be for everyone. It looks interesting, if Peacock offers a freeview, I'll definitely give it a look.- The Tennis Thread
I actually posted about this a few pages back, but it is a reminder of Djokovic's privileged position and how he only has ever used it to benefit himself. He may be a great player, but he's a horrible human. The deadline to file for said exemption was December 10. TA will twist themselves in knots to try to make that Nadal/Djokovic title match happen, by hook and by crook.- The Tennis Thread
Just as I suspected, that wretch is unvaccinated, walking around, engaging with children at events and spreading himself around. Released out of detention, unlike those detainees, some of whom fled for their lives, many who have been detained for years. Craig Riley and TA has invited a full-on shítshow. Posting without further comment, just as a 411.- RIP: In Memoriam Thread
Same. It's seems like a constant drumbeat these days.- Which storylines wouldn't have taken off had social media existed since the beginning of soaps?
Also, YouTube counts as social media and it's been out since 2005, no? You know what was the predominant social media since the television entered the consumer marketplace? The telephone. I agree with the posters who express skepticism that getting on social media would actually change things. You know what does though? Consumer behavior. Money talks. When sponsors express dissatisfaction with a network decision or a program's storyline and they threaten to pull their sponsorship dollars, that's when things change. Anyone interested in this topic, there is extensive reading material on this subject.- The Tennis Thread
Speaking of happenings "Down Under", a first title in Australia for Monfils!- Which storylines wouldn't have taken off had social media existed since the beginning of soaps?
Hm, I'm not sure there's an answer for this since any response would be deeply speculative at best. Also, no idea happens before its time. The television and media landscape was vastly different than what we see and experience today. Would we have to assume that this landscape would be the same as it used to be, or what it currently is? When I first glanced at this question, the thought that immediately came to mind is what if the soaps that had been cancelled in the last 20 years had had the benefit of social media, would it have bought many of them more time on air? Or would the distinct lack of support that most suffered from at the end of their runs render any social media campaigns ineffective?- Coronavirus/Covid-19 Discussion Thread
With people this inconsiderate and dumb, how will we ever get released from this pandemic? - The Politics Thread
