  1. Lovely! Even though it's only one episode I can easily see why this show was such a success. Such a diverse and strong cast of characters, and a setting which probably was something rare on tv at the time. Personally I found it amusing to see an old acquaintance from my favourite tv-show ever, "Upstairs, Downstairs". John Quayle, who played Captain Platt in this episode played Bunny Newbury on that show.
  2. The spoiler is part of it, but I don't think my disdain for everything Dingle-related is a secret. Debbie is everything I hate about the Dingles, and she is at the very top of my list of characters I would dump immediately if I got the chance. Her parents are up there too, but Charity at least has some wit and humour.
  3. Why can't someone please rid the show, and us, of the black hole otherwise known as Debbie Dingle! Of all the Dingles I think she is the one I loathe the most. She's such a miserable, hypocritical bitch!
  4. You also have Lesley Manville, nominated for Best Supporting Actress, who had a regular role on "Emmerdale Farm" 1975-76.
  5. How disappointing that Ross is working with Cain against Joseph. I had hoped that he had gotten Debbie out of his system, but I guess not.... There goes my dream that he could have ended up with Victoria.
  6. She's actually part of my very first, very hazy memory of Emmerdale Farm. I had this vague recollection of a girl named Rosemary, no more than that. It wasn't until much later I got it confirmed that there had actually been a Rosemary on the show. Her very first episode could be found on Youtube for a brief while, but it was taken down. But there are other episodes uploaded there now with her in them. Here's one for instance Trivia: Her co-star, George Fenton, has gone on to become a famous composer, writing music for many acclaimed wildlife series produced by David Attenborough ("Planet Earth", "Blue Planet" etc), and also for many movies by Ken Loach. His breakthrough came when he collaborated with Ravi Shankar to write the score to the multi-Oscar winning "Gandhi" (1982)
  7. ^^ Old news! I posted that on the previous page.
  8. Wohoo, a woman is nominated in the Best Director category for only the 5th time in history. And for the first time ever (!) a woman is among the nominees for Cinematography!
  9. Congratulations to Emmerdale Farm alumni Lesley Manville on her Academy Award nomination! Lesley played Rosemary Kendall from February 18th 1975 to April 13th 1976, and appeared in 77 episodes.
  10. Nadal is out! He's injured, again..... Semi-final between Marin Cilic and Kyle Edmund.
  11. Talk about delusions of grandeur!

  13. There are no words.... http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-42766159 The White House has changed its answering machine message to blame Donald Trump's political opponents for its failure to answer calls. The US is in the middle of a government shutdown, leaving many federal services without staff. But callers to the White House comment line at the weekend were informed that Democrats were to blame. The recorded message says calls cannot be answered because Democrats are holding government funding "hostage". The recorded message was set up on the White House comment phone line, which accepts calls from members of the public. "Unfortunately, we cannot answer your call today because Congressional Democrats are holding government funding - including funding for our troops and other national security priorities - hostage to an unrelated immigration debate," the recording says. "Due to this obstruction, the government is shut down."
  14. It's a bit hard to tell, but it does look and sound like him.
  15. Hyeon Chung, 21 years old from South Korea, ranked 58th, has just eliminated Novak Djokovic from this year's Australian Open. In the quarter-final he will face Tennys (fantastic name for a tennis player) Sandgren, a 26-year old American, ranked 97th, who defeated Dominic Thiem. Not exactly the quarter-final pair anyone would have guessed. right?
  16. I never said that I considered him a villain. I just said that I didn't particularly like him, and listed some of the reasons why. The one that was portrayed as a villain was always Robert. I really resented the way Jack almost always sided with Andy when the two fought. It was especially infuriating how little consideration Jack seemed to have for Robert's feelings towards Andy after he found out about Andy's involvement in Sarah's death. Jack had no trouble forcing Robert to leave Emmerdale after the accident that caused Max King's death, yet he went to extreme lengths, even going to prison himself, to keep Andy around.
  17. What's there to like? He was an obnoxious child whose thoughtless behaviour was at least partially responsible for the deaths of Vic Windsor and Sarah Sugden. When he grew up he and Katie behaved completely childish when they decided to have a baby just so they could be together when they were clearly too young. Then his impulsive and reckless behaviour caused him to shoot and almost kill Jack Sugden. He slept with an underaged Debbie Dingle and got her pregnant, thereby forcing the Sugdens to be forever tied to the Dingle family. His feud with Robert later caused the death of Max King. When he finally got together with Katie he then proceeded to cheat on her with their lodger, Jo. After Katie left and he got together with Jo he started to abuse her, finally forcing her to flee from the village. All the character did was cause pain and suffering, and I'm not particularly sorry that he's gone.
  18. I never really cared for Andy, so that isn't something I would hold against Chrissie. I just hope that simply because she's dead all the other nasty things she did will be forgotten and people will mourn her or Lawrence. Most of the villagers didn't care about them when they were alive anyway.
  19. They're always seen as being in the wrong too. How can they be mean to the poor, innocent little Dingles.... I've already seen Joseph described as the show's new villain and this clip perfectly demonstrates how that makes me feel
  20. I don't mind if Rebecca lives. As Sebastian's mother she will always be a part of Robert's life, and when, inevitably, Robert and Aaron get back together she could be around and make Aaron's life miserable. And for me everything that annoys a Dingle is a bonus. I too fear that Joseph and Debbie will be paired again, but I'm desperately hoping that the show will prove me wrong. Can't they please have at least one person in the village who hates the Dingles?
  21. It's a bit ironic isn't it that Joseph is trying to evict the Dingles when his own mother Rachel fought against his grandfather Frank when he tried to do the same. Ugh, thinking about how Rachel fought for the Dingles is enough to make me want to re-watch the moment when Graham threw her off the cliff....
