DAYS: July 2024 Discussion Thread
I couldn't help but to think that having the press conference in town square (they have every event in town square and it's getting tiresome) kind of took me out of the scenes on Friday, that and the lack of reaction to the reveal from the press/town folk at the event. I couldn't help but to think that if this had played out on a soap like EDGE back in the day, who had a shoestring budget, but could make scenes like a press conference work, it would've been more riveting.

I don't know what it is, but CB's version of Gabi always came off as whiny and at times unserious. Watched Friday's episode I did not see that, it was like watching a different version of Gabi, one thats better IMO. I approve of this recast. I think you're making Ron's writing more than one dimensional here, and you know he doesn't do that. I love the idea of Tate being pulled into the Jude paternity reveal, because at the moment the story feels so isolated compared the rest of the show.

While the left has been hit with negative news for the past week and a half, France has just rejected La Pen's far right ideals. Seems like the center and left of the country teamed up to defeat them. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/france-far-right-fails-win-majority-rcna160586

If this doesn't motivate folks to get to the polls and vote against Trump, then I honestly don't know what will..

The Politics Thread
As the dust settles, one main take away that's gaining traction online (black twitter especially) is Trump saying illegals are taking black jobs, to which folks are asking the question specifically what are "black jobs"? Taking a rather reasonable assessment after the debate, there really wasn't any surprises with Biden, we all know he's not young. What you see is what you're going to get. We all know he'll be caught off guard by the rate at which Trump spouts his lies. We all know Trump was going to suck all of the oxygen out of the room, and not be checked by CNN. However this "black jobs" remark by Trump seems to be waking up some folks that Trump still is and will always be a racist and because of his ego, he often says the quiet part out loud.

Telfer and Zucker are really excellent screen partners, and when Allison Sweeney returned briefly to reveal Xander and Nicole's ONS at Eric and Nicole's wedding, I had hoped to see more scenes between all three; it's like Telfer has always been there in the midst of Nicole and Sami's shenanigan's when in reality he arrived on the scene long after their rivalry was pushed aside.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Or maybe it was the strength of the writing team from 83-84 that made GL. As soon as Richard Culliton departed, and Jeff Ryder became Long's co-hw that's when the wheels started to fall off. Richard and Carolyn may have not been good solo HW's, but when paired with a equally talented HW with a vision, the pair of them really help translate that vision onto the screen in a entertaining and intelligent way. Another prime example when Millee Taggart was paired with Carolyn Culliton to write the show in 2002. This was true yet again when in the late 80s Nancy Curlee and Trent Jones were given more say in terms of the writing late in Pam Long's second tenure.

They really tried to make that Meredith Reade character work didn't they? Wonder what Pam Long was trying to go for in writing for her? Seemed like towards the end of her run they tried to make her similar to Rita Stapleton. It does suck that Clarke never got a Lead Nom (although I was soooo happy for him to win in 2006, one of the few positives to come out of Wheeler's tenure) along with McKinsey never winning a Emmy at all. All in all GL's cast was undervalued by the Emmy panel for decades.

DAYS: June 2024 Spoilers
NuTate and Holly are a bust IMO. Holly would've been better off breaking up Chanel and Johnny until the show was able to find an actor the Holly actress has chemistry with.

I think Chad being set up up by Ben, and that part of the Ben/Abby/Chad story is what brought the excitement for the pairing. When that was over and done with, there wasn't much more to do with the pairing. Stefan/DID was both offensive and a mess. Chad would've been well suited as a playboy of sorts, who may or may not have an attraction to Will (bisexual playboy perhaps? lol).

ARTICLE: Dan O’Connor Joins ‘Days of our Lives’ Writing Team
I don't understand how talented writers such as Richard & Carolyn Culliton, and Lorraine Broderick dealt with being on this writing team, helmed by Ron C. I'd rather watch a show helmed by all three of those writers than a soap penned by Ron. I guess we'll just have to hope Dan's talent shines through all the muck and reflects on screen.

I was shocked to see ATWT still doing moderately well after almost a year from Marland's passing. But yeah I guess at this point the audience Doug brought in finally started tuning out once his stories ended.

2024 Daytime Emmys Live Discussion Thread
It sucks that DAYS was shut out, and that DAYS is associated with camp, as I think it does a disservice to some of its actors. Billy Flynn, Dan F, and AZ all have put in phenomenal work not just this past year, but for Flynn and Zucker, at multiple occasions in the past.
