  1. I thought Derek worked well enough in his smaller role in '80s episodes, but watching these 1994 episodes, he gets on my damn nerves and gets so much airtime. I don't know if it gets any better in 1995 and 1996, but I can see why some viewers eventually had enough, especially with Reg also so dominant and Curly being written the same way in those years.
  2. Thank you. I haven't gotten to those yet. I kind of prefer Seth in those years, when he was written a bit more seriously. I don't know if you saw but I've been putting some of the 1991 episodes on my channel (I don't have all that many). Chris and Kathy's wedding. And I have some of September and October. I'm curious to see when Henry's last airdate will be. The guides said September 5, but he isn't in that episode, so they got it wrong. Alan has a phone conversation with him (one-sided) in the September 3 episode, so maybe his last episode had already aired. I don't know. Seeing his funeral will break my heart. Here's the wedding episode. It's beautifully done. (let's see how many can guess the in-joke during the helicopter ride)
  3. I would think so, yes, but then if other characters can do whatever the hell they want and get away with it, he probably should get the right too. I would guess, just speculation,
  4. What was the Monica story (the call from the foster home)? Gail is so soothing. And look - back when soaps treated therapy seriously. I guess this must have been a certain passion of Gloria Monty's. I don't mind Grant but I'm not sure I would care that much about two of him. Which one kidnapped Anna? The one in the flannel shirt? I love Lesley but that Webber family setup probably would have gotten on my nerves at the time. How soon after this did she "die"?
  5. Thanks. You're one of the reasons why I started. The saddest part is there is still that quality in the show now, sometimes - that makes it even more frustrating. When was the story with Seth's son, BTW?
  6. Thanks for the Randall stuff. Love Randall. This was uploaded by Freeflyur years ago (the episode I mean), but this one is better quality. I can see why that Joe wasn't around long. What a huge dull slog. The only highlight was Maggie sticking it to that sad old perv Roger. Was this Pat Falken Smith?
  7. If it were well-written darkness, then I would complain, but also respect it in some way, but it's just [!@#$%^&*]. I've seen far better plotting in porn. It's an embarrassment. If not for the old episodes I keep watching (and uploading what I have of those years) I would walk away in rage. I know this is a soap, it's not real life, don't take it seriously, but it doesn't have to be THIS stupid and THIS cheap. And the awful destruction - for what exactly? For some pointless melodrama that never raises the ratings. Or for some stunt we're supposed to care about because people wander around in black like they just got out of some arthouse movie? And none of it will ever have any consequence, because nothing on soaps ever do now. I just don't get it. Why? I'm the idiot for ever expecting anything better.
  8. Spoilers. http://lovesysmugden.tumblr.com/post/123833025255/all-the-spoilers-involving-robron-for-the-rest-of It's so terrible. Laughably, laughably terrible. This is truly one of the dumbest, most destructive stories ever on a soap opera. Watching a dog take a dump has more value.
  9. Monika, did you get my PM? Julie Bovasso argued with the director over character motivation. She stormed out right before taping and they had to have someone in the crew replace her.
  10. Defend him? No, because the story is too stupid to defend. It's [!@#$%^&*]. It's not worth the time. When a story sucks, I don't bother defending, I just check out. And when kids or animals are dredged up to make us jeer, that's when you know a story sucks. I wish I'd never bothered starting the show back up to be honest. It's become a plot-driven mess with just a few highlights.
  11. I am boycotting this shitfest "killer Robert" storyline and anything involving Robert, Aaron, Chrissie, Paddy, et al. until the story is over. It's one of the worst stories I can remember on this show and one of the worst stories of the year on any soap. It's clumsy, transparent, and always, always poorly written. It's also cheap and it's desperate as hell in its attempts to make the audience hate the character, in the process rendering a ton of characters either irrelevant (Lawrence, Chrissie, Adam who up to this storyline had been an important part of Aaron's life, rather than a bit player who walks around behind Victoria before they vanish back to offcameraland), extremely OOC and nasty (Paddy), just plain dumbassed (Chas) or so blatantly plot-driven I sometimes struggle to believe it is the same character day to day (Aaron). There is nothing more desperate and lazy than to have a "baddie" threaten to kill a child. It obviously won't happen. It's a tacky little sop of a trope that only the worst of soap indulges. It doesn't make me boo and hiss at the screen. It makes me realize that a story is [!@#$%^&*] and not worth my time. At this point I would rather watch that dull old pervert Rodney leering in every scene than sit through this tripe. Awful. Awful. Awful. Awful. And the show should be ashamed at not only destroying characters, but doing so for a story that has been a complete and total bust and has never, ever had one strong dramatic moment. Not a single one. Garbage all around.
  12. At least it looks like the OTT character turns with Carol and Rick will be addressed. I hope they will, as some of the Rick stuff in that is borderline unwatchable otherwise. The Daryl stuff looks interesting. Has he cut his hair a little? Too much of Jessie whining, and basically positioned as the lead female.
  13. Thursday's episode had some good scenes (mostly with Ken and then the toast to Deirdre, although that was marred by the choice of having Michelle grin in the background like Roma Downey), but choices that likely were intended as humor, like Lloyd and Norris going on about food, just didn't work for me. I'm also not sure why they had Ken say, "This is supposed to happen to other people" when he's already been widowed.
  14. That's great. I hope we may be able to see some of that someday.
  15. Has any more been said about the women from the original cast?

  17. That looks pretty good. I'm glad they're letting his hair go wilder.
  18. What low standards to have if we can't have a negative thought about a woman who has spent a decade defending and condoning rape, racism, anti-Semitism, misogyny and dog-fighting.
  19. I think it was Richard Thomas that Don Hastings said was fired because he didn't seem like Tom, or he wasn't seen as a good actor by Irna, or something, which seemed to bemuse Hastings in an interview at the end of ATWT, given how big Thomas became a few years later.

One of the many reasons I am glad this show has become such a backnumber is because someone behind the scenes has always had an agenda in normalizing anti-gay views, to the point of having ex-gay quacks parading around on the show. It's very disturbing. But then there's an industry for this I suppose, as quack Dr. Oz can tell us.
  21. Corrie has done this many times over the recent years - I remember how annoying it was that Vera's death episode was almost all about Michelle and the baby switch. I didn't think it was that bad, but I do think certain parts were lacking. Having the pointless Sarah/Calum and Michael/Eileen stories in the same episode was jarring. Having so much focus on Michelle and on people who didn't even know Deirdre, like Kim Tate and Tanning Mom Del Dingle, was distracting. Bev Callard was also up and down, due to not being able to move her face. For me, the two best scenes were Tracy getting upset at Audrey calling her, "Tracyluv," and Emily's grief over losing her. Eileen Derbyshire is a treasure.
