The hypocrisy and blind eyes of some in Hollywood, including some who go on about progressive causes, is why I can't really go into the whole "Harvey pays and Trump doesn't" stuff in the political thread. Harvey did not pay for many, many years, and even now is likely going to walk away well off, even if his reputation and career are gone. The more time passes the more I feel like people are going to implode (as Rose McGowan seems to be doing - I hope someone gets her some help), and that will help enable the others in Hollywood like Harvey who haven't been exposed. And the same old story will continue on.- Twin Peaks

I've tried it and it really isn't very good, so you can probably blame part of it on the show. It all feels like an "edgier" version of a one-season wonder from the WB 20 years ago.- Y&R: Old Articles
Watched episode #4... Those attempted rape scenes were horrific. Bill Bell really went all out in this type of material. Bits I've seen of later years like Ashley's attempted rape, Cricket's rape etc. were also rough but the lower-budget feel of this era in general (I see they're still using the old Foster house, Chancellor darkly lit set, etc. here, and the wardrobe of the women is also much cheaper) makes it feel like something from the grindhouse formula. I wonder if they were planning anything with Angela and Andy. Liz Keifer is very green here, so I can see why Bell moved on, although I feel a bit bad for Keifer as I think she said she was very naive and was completely blindsided when she was fired. The scene at the end with Robert and Angela is pretty decent - her melodramatic dialogue at the end actually works. I feel exhausted with the Kevin/Nikki/Victor saga and that's just in 4 episodes. I can't imagine someone watching it for a whole year. The scene with Patti and Carl is intense - good stuff. I'm glad to get to see more of the Williams family with their other children as by the time I started watching it was just Mary constantly obsessing over Paul. They were actually a good, solid family. I wonder if Y&R would have done as well as it did in the '80s without them. I can't thank you both enough for these. I never expected to see any of Y&R from this period. What an experience it was.- The Politics Thread
Japan and US farmers both feel the frustration of Trump's trade policies...if one can even call them that. http://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/15/japan-trump-trade-243767 If his grandstanding with NAFTA also causes less to be exported and prices on imports to go up, will "the heartland" finally see through Trump and the GOP? No, of course not - they will just blame Obama, Democrats, Bill Clinton, and whoever their preacher tells them to hate.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
They're going to use him as a scapegoat to cover the activities of others. They know people will get bored and move on to another story soon.- Shortland Street
Does the show have much of a record with gay characters? There was some controversy when they brought a gay character back and had him involved with a woman with no mention of his past.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread
Good luck to her...- Y&R: Old Articles
Watched episode #3 The temp Carl isn't as good as Brett Hadley but he's much better than a temporary recast could have been, especially in such key scenes. Carolyn Conwell gives a wonderful performance - I wish they'd done more with her in later years. Doug Davidson is also great here. So intense. This story is very cheesy on paper and like something from a '50s B-picture, but the performances sell it. The dialogue in the scenes with Andy and Cindy and then her pimp cracked me up, especially all the references to something being "heavy" (Schemering talked about that too) and the cheesy line about being her oyster. The guy who plays her pimp looks so familiar - it's not Jeff Kober, is it? Seeing Andy more in this type of role and not so much worrying over Faren shows me more of what he could have been. Steven Ford was so handsome and had a real presence. I wish they'd done more with Carl's boss. That guy also had a lot of presence and heft. You can see how much potential and depth the Williams family had. I guess that's why Bell re-used some elements of this plot with the Cassandra story at the end of the decade. The Nikki/Kevin stuff dragged, although Katherine sort of salvaged it, as Jeanne so often did.- Y&R: Old Articles

Given that JvD had been there nonstop since 1979, I guess he may have made more money than Deas. They probably thought they could put him on recurring and then use him as they saw fit, not realizing he'd be able to get another job so quickly. It's a shame that the job he got ultimately ended up not being a showcase for his talents, but I can't blame him for taking it after how he was treated. It does annoy me that ABC wouldn't let him do a cameo for GL at the end.- Y&R: Old Articles

Watched episode #2 Beautiful work from Julianna McCarthy as always. Why Bill Bell ever let her go I don't understand. She and Deborah Adair aren't as strong as mother and daughter as some of the other Jills, but they look a lot alike. I just loved Liz. Y&R is dearly missing this type of character today. It's difficult to adjust to this Jill, although she is still written very true to the character. I hope some of her and Andy shows up at some point as that's so odd for me to picture. (I wonder if they ever interacted in later years) Early Ashley. I guess Traci was around at this point too? Eileen was green but was burning charisma. It was interesting to see the early design of the Abbott mansion (and the ranch in the March 1982 episode). I'm so glad that they got rid of those sliding doors as they don't fit the atmosphere of the place. Kevin. Sometimes I wonder what they would have done with him if he'd stayed around (did Chris Holder want to go)? He seems like a good guy and Holder was a decent actor. MTS very good again here - especially in the cliche chapel scene. There always seems to have been some backstage or offcamera issues with MTS that helps blind many to just how good she was for many years. The stuff with the always handsome Peter Brown and his wife seems to be from another show entirely. I never have known how long they were around after Leslie was gone. The scenes are extremely unsettling.- Dynasty: Discussion Thread
This is how the CW sees gay men. Riverdale took a gay male character who was friends with everyone, positive, kind (in the comics he even became a senator or President I think) and made him a generic bitchy queen who is only there to kiki with female pals and get on his knees for closet cases. The joke is that gay men are likely one of the main groups that would watch this, but they don't want us. And I sure don't want them. - Falcon Crest
